Chapter 213 Let's give it a try
Zhou Fangfang asked, "Did you catch the deer?"
"No, but we caught two rabbits," Li Hongxing said.
The two rabbits were so small, probably baby rabbits. After catching them, Li Hongxing didn't intend to eat them, but instead put them in the burrow.
Zhou Fangfang picked up the two rabbits, which were only the size of her palm. She thought they were very cute and couldn't help but touch them. The rabbits were so frightened that they trembled.
She really likes rabbits and plans to take one home to raise.
When we got back, my son saw the rabbit too. He immediately cheered and ran over, exclaiming, "What a tiny rabbit!"
Zhou Fangfang already kept chickens in the yard, and now that she saw her son liked rabbits, she smiled and said, "Let's keep them together."
The son was very happy and quickly went to find a cabbage. After a while, he brought a cabbage, broke off a large leaf, and started feeding the rabbits. The two little rabbits huddled together. They were very scared at first, but after seeing the food, they seemed to relax a lot and started eating heartily.
Zhou Fangfang yawned; she hadn't slept well all night and was very sleepy.
Li Hongxing still had to go to the military camp.
By this time, Li Hongxing's mother had already prepared breakfast, which consisted of a large bowl of noodles for each person, topped with a fried egg.
Li Hongxing's mother looked to be in good spirits, clearly having slept very well the night before.
Zhou Fangfang recalled that Li Hongxing's mother had said last night that she was very worried about Li Hongxing, but now it seemed that she was not worried at all.
Li Hongxing also thought of this, and he reminded her, "Mom, this isn't the first time I've gone to the mountains. I always come back safely. Don't talk nonsense and make people worry."
Zhou Fangfang nodded without saying anything. She had been worried sick last night, and really thought something had happened to Li Hongxing.
Li Hongxing's mother was displeased: "What are you saying? You ran off to the mountains all by yourself and didn't come back for a whole day. I was so worried about you. What? Now you won't even let me worry about you?"
“That’s not what I meant. You know I won’t get into any trouble,” Li Hongxing said, glancing at Zhou Fangfang.
Li Hongxing's mother calmly replied, "Who knows? Although there are no wild beasts in the mountains, with such heavy rain, it's better to be safe than sorry. I won't be at ease until I see you come back safe and sound."
Seeing that she wouldn't admit that he had deliberately misled Zhou Fangfang, Li Hongxing sighed and finished his noodles in a few bites. He couldn't argue with his mother anyway; it had always been this way for years.
After washing the dishes, Li Hongxing's mother boiled a large pot of water. Once the water was boiling, she called out to Zhou Fangfang, "You got caught in the rain yesterday, come and take a bath."
"...Thank you, Mom."
Zhou Fangfang didn't actually plan to take a shower. Although she got caught in the rain yesterday, she had dried herself off by sitting by the firewood, and she felt much better when she woke up this morning.
But to her surprise, Li Hongxing's mother prepared water for her, so she readily agreed and took a bath and washed her hair.
After drying her hair, she couldn't help but yawn again.
Li Hongxing's mother said, "Go to sleep. Sleep as long as you want. You don't need to get up at noon. I'll cook for you then."
Zhou Fangfang: "..."
For so many years, she has worked diligently and conscientiously, and no one has ever told her that she could sleep anywhere.
Li Hongxing's mother was clearly extremely shrewish and didn't seem like a good person. She originally thought that the other party would be difficult to get along with, but now she realized that she was really wrong.
She is clearly a very, very good person.
Lying in bed, Zhou Fangfang was suddenly overwhelmed with emotion.
She thought that all the suffering she had endured in the first half of her life might have been for the sake of meeting them.
However, Zhou Fangfang still got up at noon.
She went to the kitchen, made a tomato and egg soup, and chopped a bamboo shoot. She stir-fried the bamboo shoot with half a piece of pork belly, and the aroma wafted out, making one's mouth water.
After playing for a while, the son ran back and sat in the yard, drinking the sweet soup in big gulps.
He's at the age where he's carefree and has no worries; all he needs to do is play. When he gets a little older, we'll start his early education, and then he'll be able to read.
Zhou Fangfang is illiterate. There is no such education in her village. Even if there were, her family would only let her brothers study, and she would never have a chance. But she is illiterate, and she really hopes that her son will be able to recognize as many characters as possible in the future.
I heard that there is literacy education in the army, and it would be wonderful if my son could learn it.
Zhou Fangfang took a handkerchief and wiped her son's sweat. Her son's face was chubby, and he had been running around outside a lot lately, so his face was sunburned.
“Mom.” Her son looked at her and giggled.
"Go wash your hands and have dinner," Zhou Fangfang said.
Li Hongxing didn't come back at noon. If he's busy, he'll eat in the cafeteria and won't come back for lunch.
Zhou Fangfang gradually got used to some of his lifestyle habits, so the three of them had a nice meal together.
Li Hongxing didn't return until evening.
Zhou Fangfang made a decision. She went to tell her son a story: "The little rabbit went into a cake shop. The cake shop was full of delicious food, and the tables were made of candy..."
The son's eyes widened, and a look of longing appeared on his face. After some time, he closed his eyes and fell asleep.
Seeing that her son had fallen asleep, Zhou Fangfang covered him with a blanket and breathed a sigh of relief.
She then returned to her room, and Li Hongxing took off her coat, preparing to go to sleep.
Zhou Fangfang stared at his back for a while.
Before, when she slept, she would never look at Li Hongxing; they would just chat under the covers. But now, something is different.
She plans to become a real couple with Li Hongxing.
If what they say is true, and Li Hongxing is still capable of having marital relations, then...
Anyway, she's Li Hongxing's wife, so what's wrong with that? She doesn't plan to leave here for the rest of her life anyway.
As Li Hongxing walked to the bedside, he saw her staring intently at him.
He paused for a moment, somewhat puzzled, and asked, "What's wrong? Is there something you want to say?"
Zhou Fangfang said, "Why don't we give it a try?"
Li Hongxing was somewhat surprised that Zhou Fangfang would bring this up herself, but he readily agreed: "Okay, but..."
Before he could finish speaking, Zhou Fangfang immediately pinned him to the bed.
Li Hongxing: "..."
