Chapter 278 Cooking Dispute
Cai's mother was struggling with her own conscience, so she didn't cook and just kept waiting.
Huo Xinran was in no hurry.
If Cai's mother wanted to wait, then so be it. As time passed, minute by minute, the kitchen remained empty, with nothing in sight.
Cai Wenhua didn't care. He didn't know about the war between the two. Anyway, he would just eat breakfast in the cafeteria later. He had been eating in the cafeteria all along.
Finally, after Cai's mother urged her several more times, Huo Xinran still hadn't gotten herself ready, and just as Cai's mother was about to lose her temper, Huo Xinran finally calmed down.
She slowly walked into the kitchen and started a fire: "Mom, do you want to eat steamed buns and mantou? I'll chop the filling."
Cai's mother was furious: "There's no time to eat this. It's already too late. Just make some noodles."
"Okay," Huo Xinran replied crisply.
Cai's mother originally wanted to scold her, but seeing her like this, she couldn't bring herself to do it.
After all, Huo Xinran responded to every word and agreed readily, so she really didn't know how to criticize Huo Xinran.
But Huo Xinran just didn't manage to do those things.
There were no noodles at home.
You also need to knead the dough yourself and then pull the noodles.
Huo Xinran would never know how to do that.
This is, after all, a technical skill.
Although she didn't know how, she didn't say it. After kneading the dough, she started pulling noodles and then cooking them in a pot.
"It's cooked."
Huo Xinran said happily, and she picked up her bowl and started eating.
When Cai's mother saw the bowl of lumps of dough, she was stunned: "This is the noodle you made? Where is your noodle? What is this?"
Huo Xinran said innocently, "My family has always made it this way. Isn't this just noodles?"
Cai's mother was furious: "Haven't you ever eaten noodles before? How could this be noodles? What kind of noodles look like this?"
This stuff is so bad even a dog wouldn't eat it; it's just a waste of flour.
"oh."
Huo Xinran lowered her head, her eyes full of smiles: "It's because I don't know how to make noodles, but I will learn hard and make delicious noodles next time."
Cai's mother gritted her teeth and said, "You think there will be a next time? Let me tell you, there won't be a next time. You're simply wasting too much food."
She couldn't stand the waste of food. She came from a time of famine and experienced food shortages, so she cherished food all the more.
Huo Xinran humbly accepted the lecture and simply ate her meal quietly.
Cai Wenhua also started eating. As a soldier, he wasn't a picky eater and could eat anything. Besides, Huo Xinran's cooking wasn't bad, just not very tasty.
Cai's mother didn't want to eat at all, but she knew that if she didn't eat, it would be a waste of food, so she had no choice but to eat it all.
She figured Huo Xinran couldn't cook, so she would teach her how to cook.
So after Cai Wenhua left, Cai's mother brought up the request. She thought Huo Xinran would object, but Huo Xinran agreed immediately: "Okay, when I was at home, they spoiled me too much and never let me cook, so I don't know how to cook. I really want to learn how to cook."
Cai's mother nodded: "That's fine then. I'm very good at cooking. Wenhua has always loved my cooking. You can learn from me from now on. Let's get started now."
“Okay,” Huo Xinran readily agreed.
But when Cai's mother started teaching Huo Xinran, she found that Huo Xinran was completely clueless. She was slow-witted, bad at chopping vegetables, and her cooking was terrible. She was a complete kitchen disaster.
She was also shocked: "You never used to cook?"
Huo Xinran said, "I do cook, but I rarely. However, whenever I cook, my family says it's delicious, so I assume..."
Cai's mother: "..."
She suddenly felt deceived, and for a moment she wondered if Huo Xinran was just playing her, but looking into Huo Xinran's sincere eyes, she fell silent.
After that, Huo Xinran basically stopped cooking.
Cai's mother was definitely reluctant to let Cai Wenhua cook, so she got up early every day to cook for the two of them.
Just as Cai's mother was having objections, Huo's mother arrived. Actually, Huo Xinran had sent her over. The Huo family no longer had any communication with Huo Xinran, and they also told Huo's mother not to have any contact with her. Although Huo's mother agreed, she was still very worried about Huo Xinran.
Therefore, Huo's mother thought that she hadn't given Huo Xinran any help, and had only come to check on her situation, so there must be nothing wrong.
Huo Xinran seems to be doing well. Huo's mother is a kind person, and she is pleased to see that Huo Xinran is no longer being abused by her husband and is able to live a peaceful life.
She then said, "From now on, just live a good and stable life."
Huo Xinran smiled and said, "I understand."
They didn't really have much to say to each other, so after exchanging a few pleasantries, Mrs. Huo was about to leave. Before she left, she ran into Mrs. Cai and, out of politeness, smiled at her.
Cai's mother was stunned for a moment, not knowing what to do. This was Commander Huo's mother. She had come to see Huo Xinran in person, which meant she really cared about Huo Xinran.
Just as Huo Xinran had said, the Huo family was beginning to accept her son. She asked nervously, "Xinran, your mother smiled at me just now. What does that mean? Has she already accepted your marriage with Wenhua, which is why she came to see you? Will she give you a dowry?"
Huo Xinran glanced at her and said calmly, "Now that she's willing to come see me, she'll definitely accept me sooner or later. She didn't mention the dowry today, but she'll give it to me later. Today she just asked me how Wenhua and you have treated me."
Cai's mother quickly asked, "What did you say?"
Huo Xinran looked at her, making Cai's mother feel a little guilty. She then slowly smiled and said, "Of course I mean you've been very good to me. I've never met anyone as good as you, which is why my mother smiled at you."
Cai's mother immediately breathed a sigh of relief. She had actually made things difficult for Huo Xinran before, but of course, she didn't dare to go too far. Now, seeing that Huo Xinran didn't hold a grudge at all and was even speaking well of her in front of Huo's mother, she was relieved.
She said gratefully, "Xinran, don't worry, I will treat you even better and gain the Huo family's approval as soon as possible."
Huo Xinran smiled broadly and said, "Okay."
After Huo's mother returned, she casually mentioned Huo Xinran's remarriage. Huo Xinran kept both her divorce and marriage very low-key, since divorce is not something to be proud of, and she naturally divorced quietly.
Cai Wenhua wasn't a big shot, so they kept their marriage a low-key affair. Actually, Cai Wenhua wanted to publicize it everywhere, since marrying Commander Huo's sister was such a prestigious thing.
But fearing he might offend Commander Huo, he ultimately remained silent.
This resulted in not many people knowing about it.
