Chapter 2 No More Divorce

Chapter 2 No More Divorce

Before she finished speaking, Shen Zhixia's eyes welled up with tears, making her look very pitiful.

Huo Chenzhou: "?"

The way she looked at him made it seem like he was the unfaithful man, even though it was Shen Zhixia who had been the one constantly threatening divorce.

Shen Zhixia suddenly stomped her foot, tears glistening on her eyelashes, biting her lip with an extremely aggrieved look: "Commander Huo is so powerful! He was just forcing me to get a divorce, and now that I have a child, he wants to just walk away and deny everything!"

She felt shameless as she uttered these distorted lines, but the mess left by the original owner was too troublesome, and she couldn't cover it up without putting on this act.

The original owner's outrageous behavior was truly unforgivable. If it were her, she would have left without looking back long ago. But now she has to save this marriage, otherwise, only a tragic ending awaits her and her child.

Therefore, she must take the initiative.

"It was clearly you..."

Huo Chenzhou's hand trembled slightly as he held it, his Adam's apple bobbing as he tried to explain.

"What do you mean, 'me'?"

Shen Zhixia suddenly threw herself onto the bed, grabbed the silk quilt embroidered with mandarin ducks playing in the water, and buried herself completely under it. Her muffled voice came from under the covers, "Waaah, I knew it! You just think I'm spoiled, that I can't cook, and now you don't even want the baby anymore..."

As she spoke, her voice grew louder and louder, threatening to break into a wail.

Huo Chenzhou stared at the "cocoon" writhing on the bed, feeling a throbbing pain in his temples.

He reached out to pull back the covers, but was suddenly grabbed by Shen Zhixia's hand, her fingertips still carrying the sweet scent of face cream: "Tell me! Do you have another vixen outside?"

Shen Zhixia poked her head out, her eyes red from crying and her nose pink, but she still looked charming. "Otherwise, why did you insist on divorcing me? Now you want me to give birth to the child for you so you can just walk away, is that it?"

Huo Chenzhou looked at Shen Zhixia's tearful appearance and felt a headache coming on. She was the one who proposed the divorce, but now that she was making such a scene, he was completely helpless against her.

"I...I didn't."

This was the first time Huo Chenzhou had seen Shen Zhixia so lively and vibrant. In the past, Shen Zhixia had always been cold and aloof in front of him. She always glanced at him sideways, with a hint of impatience between her brows and a faint look of disgust on her lips, as if even his breathing was wrong, revealing her contempt and arrogance without reservation.

Seeing that his momentum had weakened, Shen Zhixia immediately pressed her advantage, grabbing his arm and shaking it: "Then why did you bring up divorce! And you even said you'd give the child to you after it's born! Huo Chenzhou, how cruel you are!"

She rubbed her head against his epaulets, wrinkling his uniform. "If you dare abandon us, I'll go to your unit's gate and cry every day."

Looking at the unreasonable little woman in his arms, Huo Chenzhou felt all his helplessness turn into a sigh. He reached out and gently wiped away the tears on her cheeks: "You really won't leave?"

Shen Zhixia raised her head, her expression serious. This time, she was no longer being coquettish: "I won't divorce you. I took a three-day train ride to come and join you in the army. If I go back to Shanghai looking like this, people will definitely point fingers at me. You can't mention divorce again."

"good."

Huo Chenzhou remained silent for a long time before speaking in a deep voice.

As Shen Zhixia watched Huo Chenzhou's tense facial lines gradually relax, the heart that had been hanging in her throat finally settled back into her chest.

She then took a look around the room.

On the mottled whitewashed wall, a propaganda poster with the words "Be vigilant and defend the motherland" is crookedly pasted, its edges worn and frayed by time. The table opposite the door is covered with scratches.

On the table sat a chipped enamel mug with the words "Serve the People" printed on it. Next to it was an aluminum lunchbox with its edges covered in dents.

Against the wall was an old wooden bed, with a dark blue cotton quilt folded neatly and a military cap on top, the brim slightly upturned, showing the marks of years of use.

In the corner stood a five-drawer chest with peeling paint. On the chest was a framed photo. In the photo, Huo Chenzhou, dressed in military uniform, stood on the training ground, with soldiers lined up neatly behind him. In the background, the slogan "Hard work to kill the enemy" was bright red and glaring. Underneath the chest were several pairs of liberation shoes, patched on top of each other, showing that they had been worn for a long time.

The only thing with a touch of "refinement" was the tin biscuit box on the windowsill, printed with a faded Shanghai Bund pattern, which she had brought before.

As Shen Zhixia stroked the pearl buttons on her cheongsam, she suddenly felt out of place in the room, like a glass ornament in a shop window that had suddenly fallen into a dusty warehouse.

"I'll go cook."

Huo Chenzhou turned and walked towards the stove, and Shen Zhixia's gaze unconsciously fell on the outline of his shoulders and back.

The navy blue military uniform billowed slightly as he walked, but it couldn't hide the smooth lines of his back muscles, and the tight belt around his waist made his figure look exceptionally upright.

He bent down to add firewood to the stove, his back taut in a beautiful arc, like a javelin that would never bend.

The muscle contours on his arms are faintly visible under the fabric, rising and falling with his movements, showcasing a fusion of strength and beauty. His narrow waist and broad shoulders form a perfect inverted triangle, exuding a strong masculine aura and a very virile presence.

"Go sit down."

After he finished stuffing firewood into the stove, he straightened up, his military uniform lapels smeared with soot. His voice, however, was a few degrees softer than before, "Don't get covered in soot."

Shen Zhixia stood there, stunned, watching him roll up his sleeves to reveal his forearms. His skin was firm, and the veins were slightly bulging under the muscles. However, his grip on the cleaver was surprisingly steady. He cut the potato shreds into even pieces, which made a soft rustling sound as they fell onto the cutting board.

This man has a really good presence.

Huo Chenzhou suddenly turned around, his gaze sweeping over her hand. His Adam's apple bobbed twice. Before she could speak, he had already turned around and scooped water from the vat. His army green trousers were rolled up to his knees, revealing light-colored old scars on his calves. "There's canned food on the table. Eat first if you're hungry."

Shen Zhixia sat down, leaning against the octagonal table. The peach flesh in the porcelain jar gleamed with a sweet sheen. She watched Huo Chenzhou's busy figure in front of the stove. The firelight cast his shadow on the wall. Sometimes he would raise his hand to adjust the angle of the hanging pot, sometimes he would bend down to add firewood. Every movement was as efficient as a soldier's.

Just then, the door was pushed open, and Huo Chunyan, whose white coat still had traces of disinfectant on the hem, rushed over, clutching a medical record book: "Brother, look at this, what is it?"

She slammed the receipt on the table; the paper read "Informed Consent Form for Abortion": "Last Friday, when she registered at the clinic, she even knocked the blood pressure monitor off her feet."
