Chapter 147 Betrayal

Chapter 147 Betrayal

The group chased after them, and just as they were about to catch up with Huo Hua and Feng Xiuhe, Feng Xiuhe pushed Huo Hua into the group without hesitation, and then ran away without looking back.

The world is in chaos right now. These people are like they're going crazy. They're holding sticks and other weapons. Who knows what they might do in their madness?

So this was Feng Xiuhe's first reaction.

Let Howard protect himself.

Actually, Howard was protecting himself the whole time he was running, but that didn't matter anymore; Howard was supposed to protect himself anyway.

When Shen Zhixia saw the group of people grab Huo Hua, her eyes widened. Just as she was about to say something, she saw Huo Chenzhou suddenly walk towards Huo Hua.

The men pulled out several knives from somewhere and tried to hurt Huo Hua. Huo Chenzhou kicked the knives away with one foot, then threw one of the men to the ground with an over-the-shoulder throw. He then punched another man in the stomach. His movements were as smooth and clean as flowing water.

Shen Zhixia, who had been watching with great concern, gradually calmed down.

Huo Chenzhou was highly skilled; those people were no match for him at all.

That's normal.

Although there were many people, they came from all age groups. They didn't know martial arts and their physical strength wasn't very good. Huo Chenzhou, on the other hand, had been specially trained, so he was naturally different.

After Huo Chenzhou dealt with these people in a few moves, Shen Zhixia breathed a sigh of relief. She wanted to walk towards Huo Chenzhou, but she was afraid of implicating him, so she stood still and waited for him.

"Shen Zhou, Howard... what are you doing here?"

A cautious voice came from not far away.

Shen Zhixia asked in surprise, "Mom, we came here to find you. Where have you been?"

Mrs. Huo was carrying a basket, but it was empty. She had come to buy meat, but clearly, she hadn't managed to buy any.

She said helplessly, "When I first arrived, I found this place too chaotic, so I hid to avoid getting caught in the crossfire. I was waiting for someone who said there was a fight here, so I came to see what was going on."

They were just watching a spectacle, but ended up seeing it happening to their own people.

Fortunately, Huo Chenzhou didn't have too many injuries, which relieved Huo's mother.

Finally, they reported it to the police, who arrested these people.

Even if we arrest them, it won't really do much good. Once they're released, they'll just cause trouble again.

Mrs. Huo said, "The world is getting more and more chaotic. I just saw them throw a bunch of eggs at Teacher Huang in town. Teacher Huang used to be highly respected. He taught many students and helped so many students get out of the mountains and realize their value. I never thought he would end up like this."

It's quite ironic, really. This Mr. Huang used to be very respected. He had the opportunity to develop his career in Shanghai, but because he was from the town, he stayed there to teach and nurture people, hoping to help more people see the outside world.

But not long after, those people used his reputation as a great academic to try and bring him down. When they threw rotten eggs at him, he didn't fight back. Huo's mother saw that there was no light left in his eyes.

She originally wanted to help Teacher Huang, but there were too many people, and they all had weapons. She was pulled away from the chaotic place and ended up hiding there.

Mrs. Huo sighed and said, "Let's go. Anyway, the police have already arrested them. The rest is beyond our control."

No matter how the police deal with that group of people, it's beyond their control.

"Um."

The group then decided to go back.

Howard lowered his eyes and fell silent. He glanced around but did not see Feng Xiuhe.

Feng Xiuhe ran away.

When the group of people were chasing them, one of the men grabbed a stick and started hitting Feng Xiuhe. He tried to shield her, but Feng Xiuhe pushed him away and then disappeared without a trace.

Howard gently closed his eyes. Even though Feng Xiuhe had seemed a bit strange these past few days, he hadn't thought about it at all. He thought they could still live a good life together. Even if Feng Xiuhe had some flaws, he could tolerate them. But now he realized that he didn't understand Feng Xiuhe at all.

Did she know that this group of people were like madmen, capable of doing anything in their frenzied actions?

Perhaps Feng Xiuhe knew, but she simply didn't care.

Just then, Huo Chenzhou suddenly touched his left arm, and Huo Hua couldn't help but groan.

"Brother, what's wrong? Are you injured?" Huo Chenzhou asked, frowning.

Howard nodded, his voice soft: "I'm fine."

He was hit by the stick, and it hurt a lot, but he knew that he hadn't broken any bones; it must have just hit the flesh. After all, if he had broken any bones, his hand would be ruined.

Huo Chenzhou's expression changed, and he was about to take him to see a doctor.

Unfortunately, the times are terrible now. There used to be a barefoot doctor in town, but he was beaten down by that group of people. It took him a long time to find the doctor's house and then he asked the doctor to apply medicine to Howard.

Fortunately, the doctor said the situation wasn't too serious and that it would just require a few more applications of medication.

Shen Zhixia looked at Huo Hua thoughtfully.

Howard's arm looked bad; it was covered in bruises, with patches of blue and purple, and not a single patch of healthy flesh.

Huo Chenzhou walked out the door, looked at Shen Zhixia, and said in a gentle tone, "What's wrong? Why are you staring at my brother? Is my brother very handsome?"

Howard was indeed handsome. Even by the standards of this era, he was considered very good-looking. He had striking features and a gentle, refined appearance, unlike someone born in the countryside. Instead, he looked like a young master from a prominent family.

However, Shen Zhixia was not looking at his appearance; she was looking at his injuries.

She pulled Huo Chenzhou aside and whispered, "Feng Xiuhe has already left."

Huo Chenzhou nodded: "I know."

They tacitly avoided mentioning it, but that doesn't mean they were unaware of it.

Shen Zhixia said, "I just saw Feng Xiuhe push your brother, otherwise he wouldn't have gotten into this mess. You said that Feng Xiuhe abandoned your brother when it came to matters of vital interest. What if the same thing happens again in the future?"

Feng Xiuhe is a typical selfish person, as can be seen from her actions this time.

Even if Howard has a good personality, he probably can't forgive her behavior.

Huo Chenzhou hummed in agreement: "If I hadn't been by my brother's side this time, he would probably be in grave danger."

However, Howard never mentioned this matter, and he could only remain silent.
