Fu Yucheng grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer to his chest, his nose brushing against the top of her head: "How can it not be interesting? When I saw you blowing on his wound, my heart felt like it was being bitten by mosquitoes, it was so itchy."
Yun Tangyin laughed out loud at his joke and reached out to pinch his cheek: "How old are you and you're still jealous? Zhou Desheng got injured while helping you with your work. What's wrong with me putting some medicine on him?"
"That won't do either." Fu Yucheng buried his face in the crook of her neck, his voice muffled. "You can only blow on my wounds, you can only cook me egg noodles, you can only..."
"Only what?" Yun Tangyin teased him deliberately, her fingertips tracing the muscle lines of his back.
Fu Yucheng's breathing suddenly became heavier, and he said in a hoarse voice, "It can only be mine."
The door suddenly opened, and the two hurriedly separated. Jiang Jianhua was standing in the doorway with a laundry basin in his hand, his eyes wide open: "I...I just came to get my dirty clothes. You guys continue, continue."
After saying that, he turned and ran, the rim of the basin hitting the door frame with a dull thud.
Yun Tangyin's face instantly turned bright red, but Fu Yucheng chuckled softly: "Now everyone knows how jealous I am."
"It's all your fault!" Yun Tangyin pinched his arm, turned around and walked towards the stove. "Hurry up and start the fire, or the egg noodles will turn into mush."
Fu Yucheng smiled and followed, squatting down in front of the stove to add firewood. The firelight illuminated his profile, highlighting his sharp features.
Seeing his focused expression, Yun Tangyin suddenly said, "My second sister-in-law said the other day that the supply and marketing cooperative got some colored thread, both red and green. After we finish eating noodles, shall we go and buy some?"
Fu Yucheng looked up at her: "Want me to embroider a pattern on your red blouse?"
"Hmm." Yun Tangyin stirred the noodles in the pot. "What kind of embroidery do you think would look good for the photos?"
"It looks beautiful." Fu Yucheng added a piece of firewood to the stove. "My wife embroiders everything beautifully. By the way, let's add some gold thread to outline the petals, and it'll definitely be eye-catching."
Yun Tangyin thought for a moment, "Red silk thread will do."
"You think gold thread is too expensive? I'll buy it even if it's expensive." Fu Yucheng pulled out a few bills from his pocket. "This is my allowance for this month, enough to buy two feet of gold thread."
Looking at the money in his hand, Yun Tangyin felt a warmth in her heart. She didn't lack money, and neither did Fu Yucheng, but this sentiment was truly touching.
She smiled and said, "Okay, did you leave some for Mom?"
“I saved up some money for Mom.” Fu Yucheng stuffed the money into her hand. “Take it, use it to buy my wife some floral thread. It won’t hurt.”
As the two were talking, the noodles were cooked.
Yun Tangyin filled two large bowls and added two extra spoonfuls of chili to Fu Yucheng's bowl. He ate with a sweat on his face, but kept saying how delicious it was.
"Eat slowly, no one's going to take it from you." Yun Tangyin handed him a handkerchief. "Did you choke?"
Fu Yucheng wiped his mouth, picked up a fried egg and put it in her bowl: "Here you go."
"I don't like egg yolks." Yun Tangyin picked out the egg yolk for him. "You eat it."
Fu Yucheng opened his mouth to catch it: "My wife still loves me the most."
After finishing their noodles, they walked towards the supply and marketing cooperative. As they passed the locust grove, Fu Yucheng suddenly stopped and tucked a wild chrysanthemum into Yun Tangyin's hair, saying, "It looks good."
Yun Tangyin raised her hand to touch the flower on her head, and said with a smile, "You're almost turning into a country girl."
He paused for a moment, then answered seriously, "She was the prettiest village girl."
Fu Yucheng took her hand and walked forward. "After we take the photos, I'll put this flower in the album and put it together with our photo."
When they arrived at the supply and marketing cooperative, Sister Wang was dozing off at the counter. Seeing them come in, she quickly stood up and said, "Oh, it's you! What would you like to buy today?"
"Get some fancy thread," Yun Tangyin said, pointing to the spools in the counter. "I want red and green, and some gold thread too."
Sister Wang deftly pulled the thread and weighed it on a scale: "Two feet of cloth coupons in total, fifty cents."
Fu Yucheng took out money and cloth coupons and handed them over. As Sister Wang took them, she smiled and asked, "What do you want me to embroider?"
Yun Tangyin blushed, and Fu Yucheng answered for her, "Embroider a new dress for my wife to wear when we take a group photo."
"Oh, are we taking a group photo?" Sister Wang's eyes lit up. "You'd better get all dolled up. By the way, I recently got some new face cream, made in Shanghai. It makes your face so smooth. Want a box?"
Yun Tangyin waved her hand: "No need."
"Buy a box," Fu Yucheng stopped her, "You should use the best."
He paid and stuffed the face cream into Yun Tangyin's hand: "Take it, my wife has to use the best."
As Yun Tangyin left the supply and marketing cooperative, she looked at the face cream in her hand and felt a sweet warmth in her heart: "I didn't know you were so good at this."
"What's this?" Fu Yucheng took her hand and walked back. "Compared to my wife's smile, spending a little money is something that makes me happy, and you're happy too."
As they passed the blacksmith's shop, Fu Yucheng suddenly stopped: "Wait a minute, I'll go make something for you."
He came out shortly after going in, carrying a small tin box wrapped in red cloth. Yun Tangyin asked curiously, "What's this?"
"I'll watch it when I get home," Fu Yucheng said mysteriously. "I guarantee you'll like it."
Back home, Yun Tangyin couldn't wait to open the tin box. Inside was a pair of silver earrings, simple in design but polished to a high shine.
"Why did you suddenly think of making this?" Yun Tangyin asked in surprise as she picked up the earring.
“That’s what Wang the blacksmith said.” Fu Yucheng helped her put on the earrings, looked at himself in the mirror again and again, “They’re really pretty, even shinier than the ones sold at the supply and marketing cooperative.”
Yun Tangyin touched the bright silver earrings on her ears, her eyes getting a little hot: "You've been planning to get earrings for me for a while now?"
“Last time I saw you staring at the jewelry stall for a long time, those silver earrings are similar to these.” Fu Yucheng hugged her from behind. “I remember everything my wife thinks.”
Yun Tangyin turned around, her fingertips lightly tracing his jawline: "Do you remember, last time I said I wanted to eat Zhang's sugar cake in town?"
Fu Yucheng paused for a moment, then laughed out loud: "How could I not remember? I wanted to buy some for you when I went to the commune the other day, but I was too late and they were all sold out. After we finish taking the photos, I'll go queue up first thing in the morning and make sure you get some hot ones."
"That's more like it." Yun Tangyin tiptoed and kissed the corner of his lips, like a little squirrel stealing food. She tried to dodge as soon as she touched him, but Fu Yucheng held the back of her neck and deepened the kiss.
Suddenly, Jiang Jianhua's laughter came from outside the window: "Yinyin, Mom wants you to try on the new padded jacket!"
The two hurriedly separated. Yun Tangyin covered her burning face and ran outside. Fu Yucheng watched her back, touched the corner of his lips, and smiled like a bear that had stolen honey.
Song Yushuang was trying on a padded jacket in the courtyard when she saw Yun Tangyin come in. She smiled and twirled around, saying, "Does it fit? Yinyin's handiwork is much better; it's much more perfect than the ones made at the supply and marketing cooperative."
"Mom looks great in that." Yun Tangyin straightened her collar. "This red floral fabric makes you look radiant."
"You're so sweet-talking." Song Yushuang patted her hand. "By the way, for the photos tomorrow, wear the blue cotton shirt I made for you, okay?"
