On the way home, Yun Tangyin was still pondering Fu Yucheng's changes and couldn't help but poke his arm: "Were you this good at coaxing people when you were in the army?"
Fu Yucheng looked down at her, the moonlight falling into her eyes, shining like a handful of stars: "Where would I have had the chance before? I would shout until my throat was hoarse during training, and fall asleep as soon as I rested. Unlike now, I have a ready-made wife to dote on me."
"Who cares about you?" Yun Tangyin retorted stubbornly, but moved closer to him. "I think you've been corrupted by others; you've become so glib."
"Then I'll change it." He stopped and looked at her seriously. "I'll only be glib with you, okay?"
Yun Tangyin was amused by him and was about to speak when a wild cat darted out from the shadows in front of her, which startled her so much that she shrank into Fu Yucheng's arms.
He pulled her closer and chuckled, "You're such a grown woman, still afraid of cats?"
"I was startled," she mumbled, nestled in his arms.
He lowered his head and kissed the top of her head. "Okay, it was just a scare."
When they got home, Song Yushuang was still awake. Seeing them return, she looked up and smiled, "I heard you had a great performance on stage?"
Fu Yucheng placed the candied hawthorns on the table: "Mom, want to try some? My sister-in-law bought them; they're sweet and sour."
Song Yushuang took a bite and smiled with her eyes narrowed: "It's more authentic than the candied hawthorns in the city."
She glanced at Yun Tangyin's blushing face and said, "Yinyin, don't be shy. Couples should be lively and affectionate like this."
At night, Yun Tangyin lay in Fu Yucheng's arms, drawing circles on his chest with her finger: "Tell me, if it weren't for me, who would you marry?"
Fu Yucheng grabbed her hand and pressed it against his heart: "No matter who I marry, it won't be you."
His voice deepened, "Life without you is like a gun without bullets, empty and desolate."
Yun Tangyin felt as if something had hit her heart, causing a dull ache.
She rolled over and hugged his neck: "Then you're not allowed to keep a long face anymore, you have to smile at me every day."
"Yes, ma'am." He smiled and pinched her cheek. "But if you smile too much, you'll get wrinkles. Don't think I'm ugly then."
"I'll take you even if you're ugly." She snuggled closer to him. "Because you're my man."
The next morning, Fu Yucheng went to the army base, while Yun Tangyin sat in the courtyard embroidering a cheongsam.
Jiang Jianhua brought over a basin of clothes and, seeing how diligently she was embroidering, leaned closer to look: "This gold thread is so bright, it will definitely look beautiful when it's finished."
Yun Tangyin smiled and said, "Once it's finished, you can take the rest of the gold thread if you want."
Jiang Jianhua blushed: "How could I be worthy of you?"
He said that, but picked up a needle and thread.
Just as she was embroidering, Yu Xia rushed in, shouting, "Yinyin, go quick! Xu Runli is making a scene at the door!"
Yun Tangyin paused in her needlework: "Why is she here again?"
“She said Jiang Zhicheng wanted a divorce, so she came to settle scores with you.” Yu Xia stomped her foot angrily. “She’s like a piece of dog skin plaster, I can’t get rid of her.”
Yun Tangyin put down her needlework and had just reached the door when she saw Xu Runli sitting on the ground throwing a tantrum: "Yun Tangyin, you vixen! It's all your fault for stirring up trouble between me and Zhicheng!"
Fu Yucheng returned at some point and stood in front of Yun Tangyin, his face as dark as if it were about to rain: "Xu Runli, if you continue to cause trouble, I will deal with it as a disturbance of military discipline."
"Deal with me?" Xu Runli was desperate. "My husband wants a divorce, what's the point of me living? I might as well die in front of your Fu family's door!"
Yun Tangyin suddenly laughed and squatted down in front of Xu Runli: "You think I divorced you because of me?"
Xu Runli saw Yun Tangyin reach for the stick, got up and tried to run away, but Jiang Zhicheng grabbed her: "Runli, let's have a good talk."
"What's there to talk about!" Xu Runli continued her tantrum, "I won't get a divorce!"
“That’s not up to you.” Jiang Zhicheng’s voice turned cold. “I’ve already filed for divorce.”
Xu Runli was stunned. Looking at Jiang Zhicheng's resolute eyes, she suddenly collapsed to the ground and burst into tears.
Jiang Zhicheng sighed and bowed to Fu Yucheng and Yun Tangyin: "I'm sorry to have troubled you again."
Fu Yucheng shook his head: "Handle it properly."
After everyone left, Yu Xia patted Yun Tangyin on the shoulder: "I hope she won't come again this time!"
Yun Tangyin smiled and said, "To deal with this kind of person, you have to hit her sore spot. I'll scold her every time she comes. If she's a jerk and wants to be scolded, let her come."
Fu Yucheng pulled her closer to him: "Were you scared?"
“With you here, I’m not afraid.” Yun Tangyin leaned against his chest. “But I didn’t expect Jiang Zhicheng to be so resolute this time.”
“People always change.” Fu Yucheng lowered his head and kissed her forehead. “Like me, I used to think that life had to be lived in a straight line, but now I realize that with you by my side, even bickering is a good life.”
The setting sun cast long shadows of the two of them. Looking at Fu Yucheng's profile, Yun Tangyin suddenly realized that no matter what Fu Yucheng was like in the original book, the man in front of her who could coax her, protect her, and change for her was her Fu Yucheng.
Life should be like this: full of laughter, arguments, and the warm companionship of those around us. That's what makes life real.
During dinner, Song Yushuang looked at the half-embroidered cheongsam collar of Yun Tangyin and couldn't help but praise, "The gold thread paired with the plum blossoms is really beautiful. Once it's finished, let's go to the photo studio tomorrow to take a family photo."
Yun Tangyin had just picked up a piece of fish when she heard this and looked up with a smile: "Mom, want to take a picture too?"
"Of course." Song Yushuang scooped a spoonful of soup into Fu Yucheng's bowl. "My son and daughter-in-law are so beautiful, we have to let the neighbors see them."
Fu Yucheng swallowed the food in his mouth and suddenly said, "I'll take half a day off tomorrow to buy Yinyin new jewelry."
"No need for all that trouble," Yun Tangyin waved her hand. "I'll just put a wildflower in my hair."
“That won’t do.” He put down his chopsticks and said seriously, “A family photo has to be formal. Hair accessories, new shoes, and embroidered handkerchiefs are all essential.”
At night, Yun Tangyin lay on Fu Yucheng's chest counting his heartbeats, and suddenly asked, "Do you think Jiang Zhicheng can really divorce Xu Runli?"
“It’s difficult, but this time he’s determined.” Fu Yucheng stroked her hair. “This afternoon I heard at the army base that Xu Runli’s family came to ask for money, and Jiang Zhicheng blocked them at the door and scolded them.”
Yun Tangyin asked curiously, "Who's here?"
Fu Yucheng thought for a moment: "It seems to be Xu Runli's mother, Xu Rong."
Yun Tangyin was stunned for a moment. Xu Rong had also come to the Northeast?
Fu Yucheng thought she was kind-hearted and had softened towards the mother and daughter.
"You chose this path yourself," Fu Yucheng comforted her, pinching her earlobe. "Let's just live our own lives well. By the way, I'll get you a piece of red silk tomorrow and make you a new sachet."
"Why do you always think about buying me things?" Yun Tangyin looked up at him. Moonlight streamed in through the window, casting a soft glow on his face.
"If I don't buy it for you, who will I buy it for?" he chuckled. "I had some savings from before that I didn't know what to do with, so now it's perfect for my wife to spend."
