Yun Tangyin turned around with a smile and stuffed a piece of dried sweet potato into his mouth: "You're so capable."
Fu Yucheng chewed on a dried sweet potato and mumbled, "I'm not only capable, I'm also strong. I'll warm your bed tonight."
"You're being silly." Yun Tangyin blushed and turned to rummage through the wardrobe for a military coat. "Hurry up and find this coat, or it'll get cold when it gets dark."
Fu Yucheng hugged her from behind, his chin rubbing against the top of her head: "Actually, you don't need a coat. It'll keep you warm as long as I'm holding you."
"Let me go." Yun Tangyin struggled. "Mom isn't asleep yet."
"I haven't slept, I haven't slept." Fu Yucheng stubbornly refused to let go. "Mom is hoping we can be more affectionate so she can hold her grandson soon."
Just then, Song Yushuang's voice came from the courtyard: "Yinyin, Acheng, you two come out and help me peel some peanuts."
Yun Tangyin quickly pushed Fu Yucheng away and straightened her clothes: "I'm here."
On the stone table in the courtyard was a basket of peanuts, which Song Yushuang was peeling slowly and gracefully.
Yun Tangyin sat down and picked up a shell. Just as she was about to peel it, Fu Yucheng snatched it away, saying, "Let me do it. Your hands are delicate; don't get scratched by the shell."
Song Yushuang smiled at them: "Acheng used to be so indecisive, he was like a stone. Now he's become a very meticulous person."
“That’s right, my wife deserves my pampering.” Fu Yucheng peeled peanuts quickly, piling them into a small dish in front of Yun Tangyin. “Mom, you can rest too, I can manage on my own.”
"I'm not so old that I can't move," Song Yushuang said reproachfully. "By the way, I just saw the second brother arguing again, those two..."
"Mom!" Yun Tangyin quickly interrupted, "Second brother and sister-in-law have a good relationship, don't worry about it."
It's best to keep these two locked up.
Fu Yucheng nodded, "Yes, Mom. Second brother is just a quiet person, but he cares a lot about second sister-in-law."
Song Yushuang sighed: "I hope so. Back then, your father and I always bickered, but when something really happened, we were closer than anyone else."
Just then, Jiang Jianhua came out carrying a basket containing freshly sewn shoe soles: "Mom, Yinyin, do you think the stitching is alright?"
Yun Tangyin picked one up and looked at it: "Second sister-in-law's skills are getting better and better, much better than mine."
Jiang Jianhua blushed: "Yinyin taught us so well."
She glanced at the peanuts Fu Yucheng had peeled, "I'll help too."
Four people sat around a stone table peeling peanuts. The lamp cast long shadows, and the pomegranate tree in the courtyard had fallen petals all over the ground, like a red carpet.
Fu Yucheng suddenly said, "Mom, let's go to the mountain to pick wild dates when I have a couple of days off? Yinyin said she wants to eat date paste cake."
“Great!” Song Yushuang laughed. “There are also wild chestnuts on the mountain. I’ll pick some and stir-fry them for you.”
Yun Tangyin laughed and punched him: "You're such a glutton, it's clearly you who wants to eat it."
"I just wanted you to eat more." Fu Yucheng popped a peanut into her mouth. "You'll look better if you get a little chubby."
Jiang Jianhua also laughed: "My third brother really cares about his wife."
Fu Yuanshan, who had been silent all along, suddenly came out of the house, holding a sickle in his hand: "I'm going to chop firewood."
Fu Yucheng looked up: "Second brother, I'll go with you."
"No need." Fu Yuanshan didn't even turn his head. "I can go by myself."
Watching his forlorn figure, Jiang Jianhua's eyes reddened.
Yun Tangyin nudged her arm: "Second sister-in-law, don't overthink it."
Jiang Jianhua nodded without saying a word, crushing the peanut shells in his hand.
When Fu Yuanshan didn't return for dinner, Jiang Jianhua became restless.
Yun Tangyin saw this and gave Fu Yucheng a wink.
Fu Yucheng understood and put down his chopsticks: "I'll go find my second brother."
Yun Tangyin also stood up: "I'll go with you."
As soon as the two reached the courtyard gate, they saw Fu Yuanshan returning with a bundle of firewood on his back, his forehead covered in sweat.
"Second brother, let me do it." Fu Yucheng quickly stepped forward to help.
Fu Yuanshan dodged the question: "No need."
Yun Tangyin handed over a towel: "Second Brother, wipe your sweat."
Fu Yuanshan hesitated for a moment, then took it and wiped it haphazardly, his expression softening somewhat.
Nothing much happened that day, and it just passed by like that.
The next day at dinner, Yun Tangyin saw Jiang Jianhua constantly putting food on Fu Yuanshan's plate. Fu Yuanshan was initially awkward, but later silently accepted it.
Yun Tangyin saw this and secretly smiled at Fu Yucheng.
After dinner, Fu Yucheng and Yun Tangyin walked towards the riverbank, both of them wrapped in military overcoats, feeling warm and cozy.
The river breeze rustled the reeds, and the moon shimmered in the water like a silver plate.
"Do you think Second Brother will change?" Yun Tangyin asked, leaning against Fu Yucheng's chest.
"Yes, I will." Fu Yucheng hugged her tighter. "People change. I used to be pretty dull too, didn't I? But you brought me out of my shell."
"Who brought you along?" Yun Tangyin laughed. "You figured it out yourself."
"It's because of you." Fu Yucheng lowered his head and kissed her. "I used to think that life should be straight and orderly, like a neat line of soldiers. But I realized that life can also be like this river, winding and turning, but always with a direction."
Yun Tangyin's heart felt filled with something warm.
She looked up at him, her eyes shining brighter than the moon in the sky: "Fu Yucheng, I think I'm liking you more and more."
"Then I've hit the jackpot." Fu Yucheng chuckled. "I like you much more than you like me."
"I don't believe it." Yun Tangyin snuggled closer to him. "Unless you pluck the moon from the sky for me."
"What's so difficult about that?" Fu Yucheng bent down and scooped up a handful of river water, the moon reflected in the water shattering into a silvery glow. "Look, I've picked it for you."
Yun Tangyin laughed so hard she couldn't stand up straight: "Fu Yucheng, you're cheating."
"It's not shameful to be unreasonable with your wife." He picked her up and spun her around on the riverbank. "From now on, I'll be unreasonable with you every day, for the rest of my life."
The sound of dogs barking came from afar, and someone's light turned on and off.
Yun Tangyin hugged Fu Yucheng's neck, feeling that there had never been a happier moment in her life.
When they got home, Jiang Jianhua was still waiting in the yard. Seeing them return, he quickly came up to them and asked, "Yuanshan, did you see that?"
Fu Yucheng shook his head: "I don't know."
Jiang Jianhua's face turned pale instantly, and he rubbed the corner of his apron back and forth: "He said he was going to see two friends this evening, and it's already past midnight and he still hasn't come back..."
Yun Tangyin quickly pulled her back: "Second sister-in-law, don't worry, maybe a friend invited him to stay."
Fu Yucheng nodded: "I'll go ask at the homes of some of his comrades who he frequents. You wait at home."
“I’ll go with you.” Jiang Jianhua hurriedly followed. “It’ll be dark, how would you know the way?”
As the three of them reached the alley entrance, they saw Fu Yuanshan swaying back with a military water bottle on his back, walking unsteadily and reeking of alcohol.
"Fu Yuanshan!" Jiang Jianhua was both angry and anxious. He rushed forward to help him, but Fu Yuanshan waved his hand away, saying, "Don't touch me..."
"Second Brother has had too much to drink." Fu Yucheng quickly stepped forward to support him. "I'll take him home."
Fu Yuanshan struggled free, his eyes red as he glared at Jiang Jianhua: "Are you hoping I'll die out there? Let me tell you... I don't need you to tell me what to do!"
These words pierced Jiang Jianhua's heart like an ice pick. She took a step back abruptly, her eyes instantly reddening, but she bit her lip tightly to keep from crying out.
