She slipped one into Erzhuzi's hand. "Try it, is it sweet?"
Erzhuzi nodded, chewing on a lotus seed: "Sweeter than preserved plums! Aunt Fu, when the little brother comes out, I'll teach him how to peel lotus seeds."
Just as Yun Tangyin was about to reply, she saw Fu Yuan carrying in a small bamboo frame with several strings of dried hawthorns hanging on it: "Do you think this bamboo frame is good? I wove three layers so that it can be used to dry hawthorns and dried pumpkins for the children as snacks."
Yu Xia stuffed a piece of osmanthus cake into his hand: "You always have so many ideas. But this frame is really well-made, sturdier than the wooden frame in the yard."
She suddenly pointed to the top of the bamboo rack, "This is a good place to dry the children's socks, it's well-ventilated."
Fu Yucheng returned from the bamboo workshop, carrying a small bamboo rattle drum with a thin veil covering its surface: "Yinyin, look, I embroidered a little tiger on the veil. When it spins, it looks like it's running."
Yun Tangyin took it and shook it; the tiger on the gauze was indeed lifelike. "Even more exquisite than the last one."
She slipped a preserved plum into his pocket. "It's from my sister-in-law. It's just the right amount of sour."
Fu Yucheng squinted with envy, but nodded repeatedly: "When the children grow up, I'll teach them to weave this. It's better than playing in the mud."
At lunchtime, Yu Xia put a piece of stir-fried pumpkin into Yun Tangyin's bowl: "This pumpkin was grown in the yard, and it's very sweet. The old Chinese medicine doctor said that pregnant women should eat more whole grains, which are more nourishing than refined rice and flour."
Jiang Jianhua shoveled rice into his bowl and laughed, "My sister-in-law knows more than an old Chinese medicine doctor now. The other day I wanted to eat something spicy, but she chased after me, saying it's bad for the baby."
Yu Xia blushed: "I heard it from the monks at the temple; pregnant women should avoid spicy food."
She suddenly put a piece of tofu into Jiang Jianhua's bowl, saying, "Eat this quickly, it'll help you get calcium."
Erzhuzi, holding up a small bamboo spoon, shouted, "I want to take calcium supplements too! I want to grow as tall as Uncle Fu!"
Fu Yuanzheng was amused and ladled a spoonful of pork rib soup into his bowl: "Eat more meat so you can grow taller."
