The setting sun cast long shadows of the three men, and the bicycle bells jingled and tinkled, mingling with Erzhuzi's laughter like a sweet song.
Yun Tangyin suddenly felt that these days were really good. With him by her side, she had something to look forward to, and even the wind carried the scent of bamboo strips and sunshine.
When they got home, Yu Xia was sitting in the yard sewing a lining for a bamboo tiger-head hat. "You're finally back."
She held up the hat and laughed, "The tiger head that Yuanshan wove is even more spirited than Erzhuzi's rattle drum."
The bamboo tiger whiskers on the brim of the hat stood upright. Yun Tangyin touched them and said, "Sew on a strip of black cloth as eyelashes, and it will look even more imposing."
She suddenly slipped a piece of candy into Yu Xia's hand, saying, "Mom, try this. It's a fruit candy I bought in town."
Just as Fu Yucheng parked his bicycle, Jiang Jianhua came in carrying a bamboo steamer: "I steamed some brown sugar cake to nourish Yinyin's blood and qi."
She slipped a pair of bamboo chopsticks into Yun Tangyin's hand, saying, "These are newly made in Yuanshan; they're lighter than wooden chopsticks."
Yun Tangyin picked up a piece of cake and smiled, "It's even sweeter than the red date cake from last time. By the way, I've finished embroidering the lampshade paper. Second Brother, have you applied the varnish yet?"
"Just finished painting." Fu Yuanshan poked his head out from the west wing, holding up a small bamboo lantern. "Look at this lantern frame, isn't it well-made? Cover it with the gauze paper you embroidered, and it'll surely light up half the street."
The lantern frame is hexagonal, with a small lotus flower woven into each corner.
Yun Tangyin stuffed a piece of cake into his hand: "It's even more exquisite than the ones you buy at the temple fair. It's sure to win an award at the bamboo weaving exhibition."
As evening fell, Erzhuzi rushed into the yard carrying a small bamboo fishing boat: "Brother Fu, look! The boat I made can carry peanuts!"
The sails were made of red silk cloth given to us by Yun Tangyin, and they billowed in the wind.
Fu Yucheng put a peanut on the boat: "If we weave a small fishing net, we can 'catch fish'."
He suddenly winked at Yun Tangyin, "Have your sister-in-law sew a piece of oiled paper to the bottom of the boat so it can float in a basin of water."
