Chapter 51 Commander Fu is Henpecked (1/2)

Looking at the two courtyards, one large and one small, and the red brick houses that caught her eye, Su Jiaojiao shrugged.

It was pretty much as she had imagined.

This red brick house was specifically applied for for Fu Yifei.

It's considered the best courtyard in this compound.

The original residents moved out overnight.

“Jiaojiao and Jingchen live in that big courtyard, we can live in the small courtyard.” Du Xiuyun looked at the courtyard and felt a sense of desolation.

Conditions here are indeed harsh; even the most "prosperous" street in town is not as bustling as a village in Shanghai.

There were hardly any people on the streets, and everyone was dressed in very shabby clothes.

Here, the sandstorm raged everywhere.

The town didn't even have electricity.

Even the entire compound wasn't fully electrified.

"The furniture is all there. Just do a quick clean and lay out your luggage," the young soldier said as he helped take the suitcases from the vehicle.

They warmly welcomed the new personnel who came to support the border regions.

Su Jiaojiao, in particular, was reportedly transferred from the Ministry of Health, and they welcomed her the most.

Du Xiuyun works at the research institute, and we really need someone like her here.

As for Fu Yifei, the entire military region needs his participation and leadership.

"Commander Fu, you've finally arrived! We've been waiting day and night since we received the notification!" Wu Jianshe also came in person. He felt that with Fu Yifei here, he had a pillar of support.

The work here is not easy; the conditions are harsh, and it is difficult to carry out the work.

They've been here for two years with almost no progress.

Work on grid coverage has stalled.

The reasons are twofold: firstly, a matter of capability; and secondly, economic reasons.

Fu Yifei looked at his old comrade-in-arms and quickly stepped forward.

The two embraced tightly.

Years have passed, but our friendship remains unchanged.

The two chatted for a long time, with nothing left to say to each other.

Du Xiuyun, of course, wouldn't disturb the two of them; she was tidying up the small courtyard herself.

Su Jiaojiao was helped to sit on a stone bench under a tree in the yard, with a cotton cushion placed on it to prevent her from getting cold or uncomfortable. She was also not allowed to get too close to the room, lest she be choked by the dust while cleaning.

In short, it's like they're afraid the food will melt in their mouths or break in their hands.

Wu Jianshe also brought a few people to help.

I dare not have any objections.

They would glance at Su Jiaojiao every time they came and went. They were all very surprised that the lady of the house did nothing after moving into the new house.

They drank water and ate there.

Fu Jingchen was busy cleaning every room and arranging things, never stopping for a moment.

"You know... is Commander Fu henpecked? He does all the work and still has to smile at his wife." A soldier joked, whispering to his comrade beside him.

"I think so too. But my sister-in-law is so beautiful, who would want her to do any work? She's also so thin, she can't do much."

"Indeed, she looks very delicate. I wonder if this city girl can withstand our harsh weather."

The group chatted amongst themselves as they worked.

However, when the group left, Su Jiaojiao gave each of them a bag of snacks as a thank you for their help.

The kids love these when we bring them home.

It contains Shanghai-made White Rabbit milk candy, as well as Zhuangyuan cake and smoked fish.

In this day and age, this is a very important gift.

Since we just moved here and haven't settled in yet, we didn't invite many of our colleagues to stay for a meal. It's only right that we bring some local specialties.
