Chapter 172 Johnny: I am crying for my lady to marry me

Chapter 172 Johnny: I am crying for my lady to marry me

Meanwhile, Wen Qimin was also busy making final preparations for the wedding. He called the head of the logistics department and the head of the kitchen team, gave them the money and tickets he had prepared, and asked them to make a few more dishes the next day. He also asked the head of logistics to buy him some wine.

The army had a rule that prohibited all soldiers from drinking alcohol during training. But Wen Yanxi's wedding was a happy occasion anyway, so they didn't drink much, just a small cup each to share in the good cheer.

In the evening, Wen Yanxi was called back home by Wen Qimin.

Wen Yanxi doesn't want to separate from Chen Zhaoyue, but because of the old tradition that the bride and groom cannot meet before the wedding, Wen Yanxi has to obey.

Seeing Wen Qing, Wen Yanxi reminded him to dress smartly tomorrow and go with him to pick up the bride.

When Wen Yanxi is not at home, the house is not empty and Chen Zhaoyue is not lonely.

Because she had Johnny, and a howling Johnny at that.

Chen Zhaoyue originally let Johnny out because he wanted him to play a movie for him to relieve his pre-wedding tension.

Who would have thought that when Johnny came out, he saw the red wedding characters pasted on the windows and furniture at home, and started crying after knowing that Chen Zhaoyue was going to marry Wen Yanxi tomorrow.

Chen Zhaoyue was frightened by it, “I’m getting married, why are you crying?”

Tears welled up in Johnny's electronic eyes. He raised his hand to wipe the corners of his eyes, which were empty, and choked out, "I'm crying for my wedding. The more bitterly I cry, the better the marriage will be for the young lady."

Chen Zhaoyue's head ached from its crying, so she ordered it to stop: "Johnny, play some soothing music for me."

She was already nervous about getting married for the first time, and she didn't want to waste time comforting Johnny.

Before dawn, just after four o'clock, there was a gentle knock on the door of Wen Yanxi's house.

Chen Zhaoyue had a light sleep all night, and when he heard the noise he got up and opened the door.

Outside the door, Yue Xiulan led three or five military wives, all with happy smiles on their faces, holding red wedding dresses, rouge, powder, wooden combs, hair oil and other things in their hands, and quietly squeezed into the room.

"It's time for the bride to get dressed!" Yue Xiulan said with a low laugh, her eyes filled with joy. The younger military wives behind her also smiled softly, looking at Chen Zhaoyue, who was only wearing a plain nightgown.

Chen Zhaoyue was pressed against the dressing mirror, looking at her slightly pale self in the mirror, and couldn't help but feel a little dazed. The woman in the mirror still had the childishness of a girl between her eyebrows and eyes, but she was about to become a wife. She subconsciously touched her cheek, and it felt cold.

"It's your first marriage, so you're a little nervous, huh?" A round-faced military wife noticed her discomfort and joked with a smile.

Everyone laughed. Yue Xiulan picked up a wooden comb and began to comb Shen Zhaoyue's long hair. "Captain Wen is a good man. Although he is older than you, he knows how to care for others. I'm sure you will have a prosperous life in the future."

The comb slid through her long hair, smooth and orderly. Chen Zhaoyue closed her eyes, feeling the comb's teeth gently scrape across her scalp. Having lost her mother at a young age, she had never imagined what her wedding would be like, let alone that it would be in a place far from home, with a group of military wives she had only just met dressing her up.

"Open your eyes and take a look. What kind of hairstyle do you like?" Yue Xiulan asked softly.

Chen Zhaoyue looked up at the mirror. The military wives had already laid out several hair accessories—a gilded phoenix hairpin, a few velvet flowers, and a string of small, delicate pearls. She hesitated for a moment, then pointed at the string of pearls. "This one, simpler."

"The bride has good taste!" the round-faced military wife praised. "Pearls suit you so well, so gentle and elegant."

Combing hair, tying it, applying makeup—the wives each performed their duties in an orderly fashion. Chen Zhaoyue felt like a puppet at the mercy of others, feeling nothing was real. The scent of powder filled the small room, and the reflection in the mirror gradually became unfamiliar—her eyebrows were drawn in long, thin curves, her cheeks were rouge-covered, and her lips were dyed cherry red.

When the crimson wedding gown was finally unfolded, a gentle gasp echoed through the room. It was a work of authentic Suzhou embroidery, with a phoenix embroidered in gold thread, wings spread on the red silk, ready to take flight. Even under the dim light, it still shone brilliantly.

"Captain Wen is really generous. This wedding dress must have cost a lot of thought and money." A military wife sighed softly.

Yue Xiulan helped Shen Zhaoyue put on her wedding dress layer by layer and explained, "This was specially ordered by Captain Wen. He asked me to take Sister Shen to a tailor to make it. He said that the bride must not be wronged."

Chen Zhaoyue looked down at her gorgeous wedding dress, her fingers gently stroking the delicate embroidery. She began to look forward to Wen Yanxi's expression when she saw her, and her nervousness eased slightly.

When the last outer dress was put on her shoulders, the military wives stepped back and looked at the newly dressed bride, and the room suddenly became quiet.

The woman in the mirror had a face as rosy as a peach, eyes as clear as autumn water, and her bright red wedding dress made her skin look as white as snow. Shen Zhaoyue, who usually wore a plain face, revealed a breathtaking beauty after being dressed up.

"I guarantee that Captain Wen will be charmed to death!" The round-faced military wife broke the silence first, causing everyone to nod in agreement.

"Don't even mention Captain Wen, I'm confused just looking at the bride!"

Amidst the laughter, the sky outside the window gradually brightened.

Meanwhile, at Wen Qimin's house, Wen Yanxi stood before the mirror, carefully adjusting the collar of his military uniform. His dark green uniform was ironed to perfection, the stars on his epaulettes polished to a shine. He had shaved clean, his hair meticulously combed, and his expression softer than usual.

Wen Qing pushed the door open and came in. Seeing Wen Yanxi like this, his eyes darkened for a moment, but soon returned to normal: "Uncle, the wedding procession is ready. There are more than 20 brothers from the group, and they are all waiting outside."

Wen Yanxi turned and looked at his nephew. Wen Qing was also dressed in a neat military uniform, clearly dressed carefully, but there were dark circles under his eyes, clearly from a sleepless night.

"Have you figured it out?" Wen Yanxi asked calmly.

Wen Qing smiled bitterly: "What if I can't figure it out? She will be my aunt from now on, and I will respect her." Although he said this, there was an unconcealable bitterness in his voice.

Wen Yanxi patted his nephew's shoulder and said nothing more. Some things take time to resolve.

The suppressed laughter of the soldiers could be heard outside the door. Their commander was getting married, and these guys were more excited than anyone else. They had gathered the wedding procession early and were waiting to go to the guesthouse to "marry" the bride.

Wen Qimin came out of the kitchen, holding two bowls of steaming dumplings. "Eat your fill before you go. We're busy today." He looked at his nephew and grandson, his eyes flicking between them. Finally, he said to Wen Yanxi, "Why are you still so stern? Today is your big day to get married. Smile."

Wen Yanxi took the dumplings, the corners of his mouth slightly raised: "I'm very happy."

This was true. When he imagined Chen Zhaoyue wearing her wedding dress, a rare warmth and anticipation welled up in his heart.
