Chapter 182 Picking Up My Wife from get off work

Chapter 182 Picking Up My Wife from get off work

Wen Yanxi obviously didn't agree, but knowing he couldn't persuade her, he had to compromise: "Then I'll take you there and pick you up after get off work. If you get tired in the middle of the journey, don't force yourself and go home to rest."

"I know, Mommy Wen." Shen Zhaoyue said jokingly.

Wen Yanxi shook his head helplessly, but his eyes were full of doting.

Chen Zhaoyue stood up and straightened his collar. "You are the head of a regiment and you have to lead the troops in training. Don't be distracted by my affairs. Go quickly, it's too late."

Wen Yanxi glanced at his watch, the smile on his face gradually froze, and his brows furrowed again: "I'll be back as soon as I finish."

"Lead your soldiers well," Chen Zhaoyue pushed him, "I'm a doctor myself, I know what's going on."

Wen Yanxi was pushed to the door by her, looking back every few steps, his expression somewhat reluctant to leave. In the end, military discipline prevailed. He straightened his expression and returned to being the majestic Captain Wen, but when he left, his steps were noticeably lighter than usual.

On the training ground, the soldiers of the Fourth Regiment had been standing at attention for half an hour.

The autumn sun dispelled the morning chill, gradually becoming more intense. Sweat streamed down their foreheads, but no one dared to raise a hand to wipe it away. Everyone's heart was pounding. Captain Wen was always punctual, usually even arriving at the training ground early. It was really unusual for him to be so late today.

Could it be that the higher-ups have given them another difficult task? Or were their previous assessment results unsatisfactory?

Just as various speculations were circulating silently in the queue, the familiar figure finally appeared in the distance.

Wen Yanxi strode forward, his epaulettes gleaming in the sunlight. However, what stunned all the soldiers was that their leader, usually stern and privately known as the "Iron Leader," actually had a distinct smile on his face.

It wasn't a sneer, nor a sneer, but a smile that was almost... brilliant.

The soldiers looked at each other, afraid to speak, their eyes filled with surprise and suspicion. The second battalion commander, standing at the head of the platoon, even pinched himself secretly, wondering if he was sunburned and hallucinating.

"Everyone, at ease!"

Wen Yanxi's voice seemed brighter than usual, with an irrepressible upward tone. The soldiers followed the order reflexively, their eyes furtively glancing at the regimental commander.

"Today we're conducting tactical coordination training," Wen Yanxi said, his eyes sweeping across the room, a smile still lingering on his lips. "Second Battalion Commander, lead the team."

"Yes!" The second battalion commander answered loudly, but his heart was beating fast.

The training went on as planned, but almost all the soldiers noticed that Captain Wen was obviously absent-minded today.

During a simple charge drill, the third platoon was a beat behind schedule. Normally, Wen Yanxi would have reprimanded them. But today, he simply waved his hand and said, "Try again, and pay attention to the rhythm."

During the half-time break, Wen Yanxi did not check everyone's equipment as usual. Instead, he walked to the shade of a tree alone, took something out of his chest pocket, took a look at it, and then carefully put it back, with that thoughtful smile on his face again.

"What's wrong, Commander?" a new recruit asked the squad leader in a low voice.

The squad leader glared at him and said, "Don't ask questions you shouldn't ask!"

But the squad leader himself was also worried. He had been with Captain Wen for five years and had never seen him like this. Not even during the last great exercise had he seen the captain so happy.

The afternoon training was even more jaw-dropping.

There was still half an hour left before the end of training. Wen Yanxi suddenly looked at his watch and then blew the assembly whistle.

"We're ending training early today," he announced, the smile returning to his face. "Each class will review the training content after we return and report tomorrow."

Without waiting for everyone to react, Wen Yanxi had already strode towards the family compound, his steps almost hurried.

When his tall figure disappeared at the end of the road, the training ground suddenly exploded.

"Oh my god, the commander actually left the training early?"

"And he walked away smiling! My hair stood on end!"

"Is he going to be promoted to commander?"

"Impossible. This is not the way to laugh at a promotion."

"I guess my sister-in-law has some good news!"

"What kind of happy event could make the iron tree bloom like this?"

Everyone discussed it but could not come to a conclusion. They could only pack up their equipment and leave with full of doubts.

In the health center, Chen Zhaoyue had just finished sorting out the last medical record when he looked up and saw Wen Yanxi standing at the door.

"Why are you here?" Chen Zhaoyue asked in surprise, "It's not time to finish training yet!"

During the time when Wen Yanxi was recuperating from her injury, he often came to the clinic early to wait for her because he didn't have to attend training.

But his injury has almost recovered during this period, and he has also resumed his training intensity. Moreover, he is leading the team in training today. According to common sense, it is not certain that he can finish training on time.

But he showed up at the health center early?

"I'll take you home." Wen Yanxi walked in, took the shoulder bag and water bottle from her hands naturally, and hung up her white coat for her.

Several young nurses secretly exchanged glances and smiled.

Chen Zhaoyue's face was slightly hot, but he did not refuse.

The setting sun stretched their shadows far out. Wen Yanxi deliberately slowed down his pace, accommodating her pace.

When passing by the supply and marketing cooperative, Wen Yanxi suddenly stopped and asked, "What do you want to eat? Some peach cakes? Or apples?"

Chen Zhaoyue laughed: "There are still some oranges left at home. I can't eat much of them if I buy so many. I can just buy more when I want to eat. Besides, I just got them now. It's not like I'm going to have confinement soon. Why are you so nervous?"

Wen Yanxi coughed and tried to regain his usual serious demeanor, but it wasn't very successful: "I should make up for it."

In the end, he bought a net bag of apples and weighed half a pound of walnut cakes, and then he continued to move forward with satisfaction.

They walked very slowly.

Wen Yanxi matched Chen Zhaoyue's pace, occasionally turning his head to glance at her with gentle eyes.

Wen Yanxi suddenly said, "I want to give the child a name."

Chen Zhaoyue smiled: "We don't know whether it's a boy or a girl yet, why are you in such a hurry?"

"You can each think of one first." Wen Yanxi said seriously, "If it's a boy, then name him Wen Yi, hoping he will be strong and brave; if it's a girl, then name her Wen Xin, hoping she will be gentle and kind."

Chen Zhaoyue savored the two names carefully and nodded: "Both sound good."

As soon as I arrived at the gate of the family compound, I ran into Wen Qimin head-on.

"Yanxi?" Wen Qimin was clearly surprised. "Shouldn't you be at the training ground at this hour?"

Wen Yanxi stood at attention and saluted: "Chief of Staff."

Wen Qimin waved his hand, his eyes moving between the two of them, finally landing on the net bag in Wen Yanxi's hand, and he was even more puzzled: "What is this?"

"Pick up Yueyue from get off work." Wen Yanxi said, and naturally put his arm around Chen Zhaoyue's shoulder.
