Chapter 145 Returning Home

The car stopped less than three meters away from the two people.

The car window rolled down, and Yu Changqing, his brows furrowed and his face gloomy, said to the guard at the sentry post, "Move the fence away quickly!"

"Yes, sir!" the guard quickly replied.

As soon as the gate fence was moved aside, Yu Changqing stepped on the gas and sped out of the yard.

"What's wrong with Commander Yu today?" The guard scratched his head, puzzled.

He had been standing guard in the compound for so many years, and this was the first time he had ever seen Commander Yu drive so fast.

Upon hearing this, another guard remembered something.

“This morning, before dawn, Commander Yu’s daughter went out. I saw that her eyes were swollen like walnuts, so she must have been crying all night.”

As he spoke, he suddenly lowered his voice, "Do you think Commander Yu's daughter might have had a fight with Commander Yu and ran away from home?"

"How could that be? They're having their banquet on the 6th."

The person who spoke earlier cautioned, "Don't talk about things that aren't true; it'll have a bad impact if someone overhears it."

Little did they know, their conversation had already been overheard by Jiang Si and Huo Tingzhou, who were several meters away.

Jiang Si was not surprised at all by this result.

Although she didn't have much interaction with Yu Manli, Yu Manli seemed like the kind of person who had been overly protected by her family since childhood.

To put it nicely, such people are unaware of the wickedness of human nature.

To put it bluntly, it's like being a naive and innocent girl.

They're the kind of people who, even after being sold out, will still help the seller count the money.

However, this is a matter for the Yu family, and Commander Yu and his wife are free to worry about it; she has no interest in getting involved.

Ten minutes later, the two arrived at the courtyard house.

Jiang Si saw the figures of Third Uncle and Uncle Zhong from afar and sighed helplessly.

"I knew they would be waiting outside the door early on."

After saying that, he immediately ran over.

The first thing he did upon arriving was to shake hands with his third uncle.

Sure enough, it was as cold as ice.

"How long have you been waiting here?"

"Not long ago, just came out."

Jiang Si didn't believe it. "It's so cold. Why don't you stay indoors? What if you get sick from the cold?"

As she said this, she was both distressed and angry. "I got up early today. If I had gotten up late, would you have had to wait outside for two or three hours?"

"She's almost seventy years old and doesn't know how to take care of her health at all."

Normally, if someone said that, Uncle Zhong would definitely side with her.

Unexpectedly, Uncle Zhong has switched sides at the last minute.

He stepped forward and called out "son-in-law," then took the things from Huo Tingzhou's hands.

"Miss Sisi, this is the first time your son-in-law has visited since the wedding."

"The old man is happy, so let him be willful this once."

"Besides, this is a custom that has been passed down from the capital."

"By welcoming the young lady and her son-in-law, we've truly brought good fortune into our home."

"That's right, that's right, come in and talk to me."

Third Uncle patted Jiang Si's hand and then beckoned Huo Tingzhou to come in together.

"You two are the most important people today, so please take the seats of honor."

"By the way, you're up so early this morning, have you had breakfast yet?"

The two had already eaten at home, but they still shook their heads in unison.

"I haven't eaten yet."

Third Uncle had a knowing look on his face. "You all sit down first, eat a little less for now, and I'll show you my special skill at noon!"

After saying that, Uncle San happily went to the kitchen with Uncle Zhong.

They said they should eat less, but Uncle Zhong prepared quite a variety of breakfast options.

In no time, the two returned with six or seven items.

There are steamed buns, fried dough sticks, fried dough rings, boiled eggs, and eight-treasure pickles.

"Here you are, Sisi, this is your favorite yellow croaker wonton."

"Third Uncle, let me do it."

Huo Tingzhou got up, took the wontons, and then placed them in front of Jiang Si.

"Be careful when you eat, don't burn yourself."

Knowing she couldn't finish, Huo Tingzhou added, "You eat first, and give me what you can't finish."

Jiang Si nodded and glanced at the bowl of salty soy milk in front of him.

"Pour me some, I haven't had salty soy milk in ages."

"Mm," Huo Tingzhou responded.

Seeing that the young couple were discussing things amicably, Uncle San and Uncle Zhong exchanged a glance and then both gave each other a knowing smile.

After finishing his meal, Huo Tingzhou was about to get up and clean up when Uncle Zhong stopped him.

"Son-in-law, how can I let you work today? Go sit down and rest for a while."

Seeing that Huo Tingzhou was about to say something, Uncle Zhong quickly cleared the rice bowls off the table and ran away faster than a rabbit.

"Never mind, let him be."

Jiang Si sighed: "Let's just sit here quietly today, otherwise they'll feel uncomfortable."

After saying that, he shouted towards the kitchen, "Uncle Zhong, I want to eat your braised pork tongue."

Upon hearing this, Uncle Zhong immediately poked his head out of the kitchen with delight.

"Okay, I'll clean up this pig's head in a bit, and I'll braise some side dishes for you guys to have with your drinks at noon."

"Um!"

Jiang Si smiled and turned to look at her third uncle, "Third Uncle, would you like to play a few rounds of games with me?"

Besides sweets, Uncle San's biggest hobby was playing chess.

But today, my third uncle waved his hand in a completely different manner.

"No, no, I don't have time today."

Seeing the question marks on Jiang Si's face, Third Uncle didn't keep her in suspense.

"I asked Lao Jiu to get me some sea cucumbers and green chives. I'll make some sea cucumber dumplings for you guys later!"
