Chapter 215 Before the Typhoon Arrives

These military dependents, who were filled with anxiety, had grown up in coastal cities.

So as soon as I heard the broadcast, I quickly put down what I was doing and started preparing everything I needed to.

Most of these military dependents, whose identities are subject to much debate, come from inland areas.

My understanding of the word "typhoon" is limited to the eight words: lightning and thunder, and power and water outages.

So when they heard the broadcast, the women didn't react much and just went about their business as usual.

After finishing their work, everyone gathered together and still joked about it.

"Hey, did you guys hear the announcement this morning?"

"How come I didn't hear it? They were shouting there first thing in the morning."

A woman yawned and said, "It was already unbearably hot, and with the broadcast making so much noise, I haven't been able to sleep well at all."

"It's okay, you can just go back and catch up on some sleep later."

The woman next to her smiled and said, "However, the weather looks better every day these past two days, so it doesn't seem like a super typhoon is about to hit."

"That's right, there's not a breath of wind, what kind of typhoon is this?"

"You wouldn't know this, would you?"

This time, it was an older woman who spoke up, "Isn't this just like that 'better to kill a thousand innocent people than let one guilty person go free!'"

Regardless of whether there is a typhoon or how big it is.

The military must notify the relevant personnel immediately; otherwise, what if something really happens and the higher-ups hold them accountable?

"That's true." Everyone nodded, agreeing with the old lady's idea.

The old woman had a pleased expression on her face, probably feeling that she had been recognized, and she spoke even more enthusiastically.

"Last year, the same thing happened in my hometown. The leaders of the commune went door to door to tell us to dig earthquake shelters, saying that a major earthquake was very likely to happen soon!"

"Did you dig it up?" everyone asked curiously.

The old woman slapped her thigh, "Of course they dug! Every single house was dug up!"

"Later, we even lived in the earthquake shelter for more than a month, and nothing happened to us, except that we were fed mosquitoes!"

As soon as the old lady said this, all the sisters-in-law burst into laughter.

The laughter was so loud that Jiang Si could hear it from several alleys away.

The old lady's voice sounded familiar; I felt like I'd heard it somewhere before.

Before Jiang Si could even remember who this person was, Hu Meili had already frowned.

"What's wrong with Deputy Battalion Commander Xiang's mother? The broadcast just explained it so clearly, yet she's still chatting and laughing here. What is she thinking?"

Xu Mingjuan was surprised, "You know her too?"

What does "也" mean?

Realizing what was happening, Hu Meili instantly understood, "I know there's such a person, but I'm not familiar with them."

After saying that, he recounted what had happened that day.

“A few days ago, this old lady came to the service center to buy canned food. I told her that the canned food would not be available until the next morning, and she wailed for a long time.”

Xu Mingjuan was used to this. "She had caused trouble at our logistics department several times before. I explained to her that she did not meet the policy for accompanying military personnel and could only buy grain at negotiated prices in town. But she wouldn't listen and argued in the office for a long time."

Jiang Si finally remembered; it was her.

She said the voice sounded very familiar.

It turned out to be the old lady I met at the hospital before.

As if remembering something, Jiang Si looked at Hu Meili and asked, "Sister-in-law, isn't your due date approaching?"

When the child was mentioned, Hu Meili's eyes softened instantly. "Yes, it'll be in the next couple of days."

Jiang Si listened thoughtfully.

"Let's go, let's hurry to the service store, or we won't be able to buy anything."

Hu Meili had been working at the service center for several years.

Based on her understanding, the military will definitely issue a more detailed notice within the next day or two at the latest.

"Hmm." Jiang Si didn't have any ulterior motives.

As the saying goes, it's hard to persuade a damned ghost with kind words!

The broadcast has already made it very clear. If others insist on not listening, then we should respect their opinion.

Jiang Sicai was too lazy to waste her breath.

Xu Mingjuan had the same thought, mainly because she was frightened by this person's insistence on making trouble even when he was in the wrong.

She had been eagerly anticipating this child for so long, and she didn't want to get into any conflicts with anyone because of it.

Just as the three of them went to the service center to purchase supplies, another group of people arrived.

Seeing that Aunt Xiang and her group were still chatting, he immediately called out.

"What time is it? Why are you still chatting?"

"What's wrong?"

"What else? Didn't you see that the engineering company has already cut down all the trees in the family compound?"

As soon as these words were spoken, the group of people who had been chatting away just moments before couldn't sit still any longer.

Someone stood on a bench and took a look, only to find that the coconut grove on the east side of the family compound was gone.

"It's true, all those coconut trees have been cut down."

Hearing this, the old lady felt a pang of heartache, "What a fine coconut tree! How could you just cut it down like that!"

If they're all cut down, how will she ever be able to collect coconuts there again?

This stuff is sweet and has a milky aroma; it tastes even better than canned syrup.

The thought of having to pay to buy coconuts in the future is unbearable.

The old lady's face fell instantly.

At this point, the expressions on the other people's faces began to turn rather unpleasant.

Especially after hearing the woman who had just shouted say that it wasn't just the engineering corps anymore.

The soldiers from the barracks, guard company, motor transport company, and infantry company had all gathered outside the unit to dig drainage ditches and pile up sandbags.

Only then did everyone realize the seriousness of the situation.
