Chapter 111 Must Not Be Discovered
Xu Songning was a step faster than Zhou Qiao, grabbed the phone and smiled smugly, "Boss Zhou's hand speed isn't good enough."
"Tch, I was just letting you win. Hurry up and see what the news is," Zhou Qiao scoffed.
Xu Songning opened her phone, and thankfully, there were no messages that worried her.
Xiang Yun's reply remained normal.
Xiang Yun: Something came up last night, I forgot to reply.
Xiang Yun: Good morning
"How is it? Did you slip up?" Zhou Qiao asked eagerly, looking at Xu Songning's furrowed brows, unable to tell what was going on.
Xu Songning shook her head. She probably hadn't given herself away, but she had to take Xiang Yun's suspicion that she was Lily seriously. She couldn't let him find out the truth, at least not now.
She'll find another opportunity to explain this to him later.
If he finds out himself, their relationship will likely break down completely. They haven't even taken a step forward yet, and they'll have to take a big step back first.
Xu Songning cautiously arranged, "Qiaoqiao, have someone remove our things from my and Lu Xiaomeng's room. We won't be staying here anytime soon, so let's not keep them."
"You're afraid... No way, he can't come up without my permission. Besides, Captain Xiang isn't that kind of undignified person." Zhou Qiao picked up a mouthful of noodles and shook off the scallions.
Xu Songning wasn't as carefree as her. "To prevent problems before they arise, we should destroy the evidence first, so we can't be caught red-handed again."
"Oh? So you're planning to keep it from him forever? Actually, it's not that serious. It's more like some kind of inexplicable force. People you see at first sight will always see each other again, no matter how many times you pass by them in a crowd. Wow, that's such a brilliant way to put it!" Zhou Qiao laughed.
"That's true, but I really don't know how to bring it up." Xu Songning was upset, poking at the noodles in his bowl and stirring them until they were sticky and mushy.
"Hello, this is Lily. I received your contact information, but I didn't contact you first. Later, we became colleagues and neighbors. I even called you a scumbag. I found out you were X by adding you on WeChat, but instead of telling you this, I repeatedly mentioned the button I pulled off your shirt because I still wanted to maintain our current relationship and get closer to you. Do you believe me? Shall we continue to be friends?" Xu Songning performed expressionlessly.
Zhou Qiao got goosebumps all over. She rubbed her fingers vigorously. "It's too weird for you to say this. It sounds like you're a scumbag. I also know about his contact information. Does that mean I'm your accomplice? That's terrible! I agree with you. It's better to keep it from him than to let him think he's been played."
The two reached an agreement and silently finished the bowl of braised noodles.
Xu Songning cleaned up the trash and took her to see the frozen goods in the refrigerator. "I'll bring you chicken soup again tonight. My mom has already started cooking it. These dumplings and glutinous rice balls are for you. If it's inconvenient for you to cook them yourself, ask someone to help you."
"Alright, the bar has a cook, I won't starve, don't worry." Zhou Qiao pushed the person to the door, "I'll have someone go get some chicken soup from you, don't bring it over, you have to go to work tomorrow."
"Are you sure you can manage on your own?" Xu Songning asked Zhou Qiao with concern as she changed her shoes.
Zhou Qiao looked alright, indicating she had been well taken care of during this time. However, with her caregivers gone, Xu Songning was somewhat skeptical about her ability to survive on her own.
"Don't worry! How come you're even more long-winded than my mom, Songning?" Zhou Qiao smiled, her eyes narrowed.
"Okay, then call me if anything happens. I can help with the bar stuff too. Don't try to be strong on your own, okay?" Xu Songning took her hand and gently squeezed the back of it.
Zhou Qiao nodded repeatedly, "Okay, okay! You can go home without worry. I'll call you if anything happens."
Watching Xu Songning leave, Zhou Qiao leaned against the window until she saw her car drive onto the main road, then hummed a song as she went to the kitchen to pour water.
“What’s so difficult about living alone? Boss Zhou can definitely handle it,” Zhou Qiao muttered to herself.
She drank a glass of water, but it still wasn't enough, so she turned on the coffee machine, made herself a cup of coffee, and snuggled up on the sofa, waiting to watch the band's performance that evening.
Perhaps due to her injury, Zhou Qiao was somewhat drowsy and fell asleep on the sofa. She was only awakened by the deafening cheers coming from the television.
Normal noise no longer poses a threat to her; she can comfortably sleep with the TV on.
At that moment, she barely opened one eye, glanced at the screen, and then her eyelids drooped again. She drifted off to sleep for another five minutes, and in her sleep she heard someone knocking on the door. She thought she was dreaming.
Someone rushed in, swiped their card, and breathed a sigh of relief when they saw her lying safely on the sofa. "Boss, you didn't answer your phone or open the door. I thought something had happened to you!"
Zhou Qiao rubbed her aching forehead, now fully awake. She got up from the sofa and sat up to clear her head.
"What's wrong? What serious incident happened?"
The female employee placed the thermos in front of her and went to the kitchen to get some tableware. "The important thing is that I brought back the chicken soup for you. Drink it while it's hot. Once your arm is healed, we're looking forward to having fun together!"
"Thank you for your hard work. I'll give you an extra day off. Just send me a message whenever you want to take leave," Zhou Qiao said generously.
The female employee beamed from ear to ear as she put the chicken soup into a large bowl for her. "Thank you, boss! You're the best!"
"You know me best, so don't tattle on me." Zhou Qiao blinked, her intention being to tell her not to tattle on Xu Songning.
The female employee looked around in a panic, thinking: "Have we been exposed? How am I going to complete the task Brother Qin assigned me?"
Seeing that her expression was off, Zhou Qiao thought she was worried about the bonus Xu Songning mentioned, afraid that everyone else would get it but she wouldn't. She quickly added, "Okay, okay, I'm not telling you not to tattle. Just help to beautify it so you don't touch her sore spot."
The female employee quickly nodded. She definitely couldn't touch a nerve; Brother Qin seemed pretty intimidating! So, she could probably tell him that the boss was watching his performances at home, right?
"Can I talk about this?" The female employee pointed to the television.
Zhou Qiao's eyes widened in disbelief as she asked, "Do I have to say this too? Is she that strict? She won't even let us watch TV?"
"No, no! The TV is working fine. He's more interested in knowing what's going on with you, so that shouldn't be a problem, right?"
The female employee fully respects her boss, after all, he is her real boss! Even if Brother Qin pays her extra wages, she will absolutely not say no if the boss says no!
"Oh, I see. You can talk, go ahead." Zhou Qiao took a sip of chicken soup, which was still a little hot. She leaned back on the sofa watching TV, not paying attention to what the people behind her were doing.
The female employee took out her phone and took a picture of Zhou Qiao's back, which happened to capture the entrance of the Qin You Band. She was very satisfied with her photography skills and sent the picture to Brother Qin via email.
