Chapter 117 Lost
Xu Songning looked to the side and saw a middle-aged man in a jacket sitting there, not playing on his phone or daydreaming, but intently watching the woman in the red dress.
She suddenly realized that her family dressed her aunt in red so that she would be more noticeable and easier to find.
The aunt was dressed very well from head to toe. Apart from her listless face and white hair, she was almost indistinguishable from other people.
Ms. Xu was pulled into joining the square dance group, while Xu Songning found an empty chair nearby and sat down to wait for the square dance to end.
They usually dance for 45 minutes, rest for a while after dancing for 10 minutes, and then continue dancing. After they finish dancing, they go home.
The music for square dancing isn't very loud, but it can be a bit noisy if you're close by.
Xu Songning sat on the outside scrolling through her phone, glancing up every now and then. Ms. Xu was very focused on whatever she did; she learned square dancing very well and danced quite skillfully.
More people were strolling in the park, and the square dancing attracted a lot of onlookers, so the square was quickly surrounded.
During the break, Ms. Xu came over for a drink of water, and the group of more than twenty people immediately dispersed and disappeared into the crowd, making it impossible to tell who was who.
"Sweetie, do you want to dance with Mommy? It's easy to learn, you'll get it after watching a few times." Ms. Xu took her daughter's hand, trying to lead her over.
Xu Songning stepped back repeatedly, his face full of refusal. "Mom, I'm too old to jump anymore. You middle-aged people are more energetic. I'm dizzy."
As she spoke, she covered her forehead and shook her head slightly, closing her eyes as if she were doing it perfectly.
"You young people should move around more. Your physical strength is not as good as ours middle-aged people," Ms. Xu said reproachfully.
"I'm going to get a gym membership tomorrow."
"Working out is no substitute for dancing with us. Look at Xiao Xiang, how muscular he is, and you have such skinny arms and legs..."
"Oh no! Oh dear! What a disaster!"
Ms. Xu's rambling was interrupted by a scream.
All eyes turned to him. Ms. Xu recognized the man and hurriedly walked over with her daughter.
The person who called was one of the square dancers and was very familiar with the woman in the red dress. She ran over panting, slipped, and almost fell, but luckily someone caught her.
Ms. Xu patted her on the back and asked her softly, "What happened? Don't worry, tell me slowly."
The middle-aged man who had been standing to the side rushed over, looking around anxiously, "Why are you the only one back? Where's Xiao An?!"
"I... I came out of the restroom and I couldn't see her anymore! It's all my fault. I told her to wait for me in the restroom, but when I came out, I couldn't find her anywhere!"
The aunt was so anxious she was on the verge of tears, and the middle-aged man almost lost his balance. He steadied himself, saying, "It's not your fault, I should have gone with you! Xiao An's illness is so unpredictable, it's no one else's fault but mine! She has a cell phone on her, I'll call my daughter to ask her to locate her. Please help me find her, thank you so much!"
"Don't rush to take responsibility. The park isn't big, and she probably wouldn't have gone too far. Everyone, please help look for her." Ms. Xu rallied the crowd, and the people who were dancing in the square immediately sprang into action.
Many kind-hearted people spontaneously went to look for her as soon as they heard that she was an aunt wearing red.
Ms. Xu slung her small bag over her shoulder and instructed Xu Songning, "Sweetie, you go home first. There are a lot of mosquitoes here. If you get bitten all over, you won't be able to sleep because of the itching. Mom will go home a little later."
Xu Songning shook her head, "Mom, I'll go with you to find Aunt An."
Ms. Xu patted her hand with satisfaction, took out some floral water from her bag, and sprayed it around her. "Spray more, so you don't get bitten."
A middle-aged man contacted his daughter, but they talked incoherently over the phone for a long time, and the man still couldn't understand what his daughter meant by "phone location tracking software."
Fortunately, Xu Songning was there. After taking the call, the two young people talked for a while, and she successfully found the location software on the uncle's phone.
Upon checking, I was relieved to find that Aunt An was still in the park, though her location kept shifting.
Xu Songning instructed her mother and uncle to surround the area from the opposite direction to prevent Aunt An from turning back. She was fast and could find the person by taking a shortcut.
Ms. Xu and the uncle thought it was feasible, and the three of them immediately took action.
Xu Songning carefully took the shortcut with the uncle's phone in her hand. The wet and soft slope was a bit dangerous. If Ms. Xu saw her, she would definitely scold her. But now, in order to find the person, she couldn't care less about that.
According to the navigation, Aunt An was staying by the river. If she slipped and fell in, the half-meter-deep water could drown her.
Her heart was clenched tightly. As she stepped on the mud, she would occasionally lose her balance and slip a few steps. She steadied herself and walked forward. Finally, she reached the narrow path by the river. The cement path, which was only about 20 centimeters wide, looked extremely narrow, but it was much easier to walk on than the slope.
You can't walk with both feet parallel on this path; you can only walk forward alternately, one foot in front of the other.
Xu Songning walked carefully on the cement road, and would occasionally take out his phone to check his location.
Aunt An continued walking forward, and fortunately, the two were getting closer and closer. Xu Songning put away his phone, and a caring greeting came from above.
"Girl, what are you doing by the river? It's dangerous, come up here quickly."
Xu Songning looked up and saw Aunt An, dressed in red, squatting under a tree. The dense vegetation concealed her, and if it weren't for her striking red outfit, Xu Songning wouldn't have been able to see her at all.
"Aunt An!"
Aunt An thought she was being called "Auntie" and quickly responded, "Hey, young lady, come on up, it's dangerous! Or should I come find you?"
Xu Songning was terrified, fearing that Aunt An would fall down the slope. Seeing her stand up, he quickly called out, "Aunt An, just wait for me there, I'll be right up."
"good."
There were no stairs nearby to climb up, and the nearest one was more than ten meters away, so she had no choice but to walk up the slope again.
This time, her white shoes were completely ruined, covered in mud, which forcibly increased their thickness. When she lifted her leg, she felt that the shoes weighed several pounds.
Fortunately, they found her. Aunt An was quietly squatting under the tree, her hands on her knees, her back straight, as if she were cosplaying a mushroom.
Xu Songning took a picture of Aunt An and sent it to her mother, along with her location.
"Girl, why are you taking pictures of me? I'm not good-looking at all," Aunt An asked her, puzzled.
“Aunt An, I wasn’t taking pictures of you, I was taking pictures of the scenery. What are you doing here?” Xu Songning squatted down next to her, mimicking her posture.
Two mushrooms stood quietly in the wind.
"I'm waiting for someone to pick me up, I'm lost," Aunt An murmured. She patted her head, then looked confused. "But I don't remember who I'm waiting for. You know what? Are you here to pick me up?"
