Chapter 14: Obtaining a Captain's Lunch

Chapter 14 Obtaining a Captain's Lunch

"No." Xiang Yun had just returned from Gu Xing's party, where he had only heard them howling and singing, and hadn't eaten much.

"That's perfect, let's eat some together. Wait a moment, I'll cook a few more dumplings." Xu Songning finished the extra sweet wine perfectly, her mood improved again, and she opened the refrigerator and took out the dumplings that Lu Xiaomeng had given her from a cabinet full of frozen food.

There were fresh vegetables she had bought in the refrigerator, but she didn't really feel like cooking today. If she wanted to show off her culinary skills, these leafy greens weren't enough to impress her.

Xiang Yun didn't refuse, "Thank you for your trouble, Miss Xu."

"You're welcome. I cooked too many anyway." Xu Songning scooped the dumplings into the water. Since it was just the two of them, and sweet wine and dumplings were a bit monotonous, this probably wouldn't be enough for Xiang Yun, a man.

"Captain Xiang, if it's convenient, could you get me some vegetables from the refrigerator?"

"lettuce?"

"Okay, then let's make a boiled lettuce dish."

Xu Songning reached out to take it, his fingers making a couple of grasping motions in the air. "Hey? Where's the lettuce?"

She turned around, and Xiang Yun was holding lettuce in one hand and her apron hanging on the wall in the other. "Let me do it."

Xu Songning's eyes lit up slightly. "Captain Xiang can cook?"

Under her expectant gaze, Xiang Yun nodded, forcing himself to remain calm. "Yes. Miss Xu, you can call me Xiang Yun."

"Then you shouldn't keep calling me Miss Xu. Xu Songning, my name isn't bad, is it?" Xu Songning extended her hand.

Xiang Yun gently squeezed her hand and murmured her name, "Song Ning, it has a good meaning and sounds nice."

The deep voice murmured her name, and Xu Songning's ears went weak. She was utterly captivated by the voice and echoed, "It sounds really nice."

Xiang Yun laughed, and Xu Songning laughed along, "Oh dear, how can I praise myself?"

"Why don't you change your clothes first?" Xiang Yun put on an apron, but because he was tall, the apron didn't fit him well, making him look out of place.

The off-white teddy bear hanging around her neck made Xu Songning want to laugh; it was so cute!

Xu Songning looked at her outfit. "Doesn't it look good?"

"It looks nice, but it's inconvenient to eat."

"That's true. I'll go change now. Looking forward to your finished product!"

Hearing Xu Songning close the bedroom door, Xiang Yun, who had been looking cold, finally breathed a sigh of relief and took out his phone to search for a recipe for blanched lettuce on Baidu.

The phone swiped slowly across the screen, jotting down the steps, just like memorizing the flight route before a flight. Captain Xiang considered it easy.

Every step of the operation is strictly followed, and even the ingredients for the seasonings are used precisely down to the last drop.

When Xu Songning came out after changing into her pajamas, Xiang Yun was still meticulously cooking. Looking at his focused expression, one might mistake him for piloting an airplane. Xiang Yun was tall and slender; just standing there, he was a sight to behold. His hair, combed back while working, softly draped over his forehead, softening his sharp features and adding a touch of gentleness and approachability.

It was also quite interesting that Captain Xiang cooked for her.

She raised her phone, secretly found a cool angle, took a picture, and sent it to the three-person group chat.

"Yay! I got a captain's lunch."

Lu Xiaomeng: "What's going on?! Captain Xiang has come knocking on my door? Does this mean I, Captain Song, have absolutely no chance?"

Zhou Qiao: "So you went home so early because a man made lunch for you?"

Zhou Qiao: "Xiao Meng, you support Captain Song? Then I support Captain Xiang. The two of them standing together are such a good sight to behold."

Xu Songning: "It's like a plot from a novel. Xiang Yun is my new neighbor. His water heater broke down and he came to borrow the bathroom. I happened to have made too much sweet wine, so I invited him to stay for dinner. Don't overthink it."

Zhou Qiao: "What a coincidence that you encountered all of these things?"

Lu Xiaomeng: "I've read this plot in the novel, but the part that follows is a bit risqué."

Xu Songning: "Lu Xiaomeng!"

Lu Xiaomeng: "Oh dear, Sister Xu, I was wrong!"

"It's ready to eat." Xiang Yun stood at the kitchen door, looking slightly serious.

"Okay!" Xu Songning replied and walked to the dining table. At first glance, she didn't recognize the plate of lettuce that was a little small.

She laughed without giving them any face, and glanced into the kitchen, where several half-ripe, half-black lettuce leaves lay in the trash can.

"It looks pretty good." Xu Songning picked up a piece with his chopsticks, chewed it carefully, and found that the flavor of lettuce and seasoning were separate. The leaves did not have any sauce clinging to them, just like taking a bite of lettuce leaf and a bite of sauce.

"Really?" Xiang Yun asked skeptically, taking a small bite before asking expressionlessly, "Is it okay to waste food?"

"Hahaha, no problem, don't force yourself if you don't want to eat." Xu Songning laughed, his eyes full of teasing.

Xiang Yun dumped the dish directly into the trash can, sat back down at the table, and remained silent for a long time.

"It's alright, there's still food. Although the lettuce died a terrible death, it certainly won't blame you." Xu Songning suppressed a laugh and poured him a bowl of sweet rice wine with egg.

Xiang Yun took a heavy sip, paused for a second with it in his mouth, and then swallowed.

"It tastes a bit sour."

Xu Songning took a spoonful and tasted it carefully. "Maybe the fermented grains are different this time. I don't know if they've gone bad. They were fresh when I bought them... Oh well, let's try the dumplings instead."

The dumplings were delicious, with large chunks of meat filling. Every bite was bursting with sweet and juicy flavor. Xu Songning was incredibly grateful to Lu Xiaomeng; otherwise, they wouldn't have been able to finish their meal.

The two finished their meal in silence. Xiang Yun then took the initiative to wash the dishes. Both were dressed casually, and the harmonious atmosphere gave people the illusion of a close relationship.

Xu Songning stood beside her washing oranges, scrubbing the orange peels clean with salt.

"Eat oranges?" Xiang Yun made conversation.

"Let's make orange juice, how about it?" Xu Songning cut open the peel, his fingers glistening with sweet juice. "It smells pretty sweet. You have a good eye for oranges."

Xiang Yun smiled to himself. He had no idea how to pick oranges; it was an older woman who happened to be shopping in the store who helped him cheat.

"Okay, squeeze the orange juice."

Xu Songning took out his juicer, which he had bought but hadn't used in a long time, and leaned against the door to study the instruction manual.

"Ding-dong."

Suddenly, a cell phone notification sounded in the kitchen.

Xu Songning picked up his phone, glanced at it, and saw no messages.

"Ding-dong."

“It’s nothing, just ignore it,” Xiang Yun said.

Xu Songning put away his phone and continued to study the juicer. Following the instructions, he put the chopped oranges in and fiddled with it for a while before the brand-new juicer finally started juicing.

"Ding-dong, ding-dong, ding-dong."

Messages kept popping up, and notification sounds kept ringing.

"It might be urgent. Why don't you check the message first? What if it's something to do with the company? I'll wash it." Xu Songning rolled up his sleeves.

Xiang Yun shook his head, not giving up his work, "I'll call if it's an emergency at the company."

Seeing his persistence, Xu Songning continued to wait for the orange juice. However, during this waiting time, the ding-dong sound kept ringing. If it wasn't a group chat, then this person was really a chatterbox! But if it was a group chat, and Xiang Yun didn't set it to do not disturb, then he would be constantly harassed.

After washing the last bowl, Xiang Yun dried it, placed it on the storage shelf, and took out his phone.

Xu Songning's orange juice was ready. She took a sip and found it to be sweet and natural. It was much easier than peeling an orange, so she decided to use the juicer more often in the future.

"Here you go." Xu Songning handed over a glass of orange juice.

"Thank you." Xiang Yun took it, lowered his head and took a big gulp, his brows relaxing. "Delicious."

The time it took to drink a glass of orange juice was short. After replying to the message, Xiang Yun put her phone on the table and said, "I have to go now. Thank you for your hospitality. I'll go get my things."

"You're welcome." Xu Songning also put down his cup.

She glanced at Xiang Yun's screen unintentionally, and sure enough, he hadn't turned it off; the screen was lit up, displaying a chat window.

Xu Songning didn't want to pry into other people's privacy, but she suddenly remembered Zhou Qiao's words.

"Everyone has two WeChat accounts."

Could Xiang Yun also have two WeChat accounts? Is he using the other one right now?

As if possessed, Xu Songning straightened up and leaned closer as if he had done something wrong.

Just one glance! I won't read the content.
