Chapter 148 Family Meeting

Chapter 148 Family Meeting

Xiang Yun lowered his head and spoke meekly, but his words were not pleasant to hear.

"I won't regret it."

"Hmph! Just like your father, stubborn as a mule!" Ms. Cui sneered. Why did she have to ask so many questions? This kid is exactly the same as before, he hasn't changed at all. He still insists on becoming a captain for his aviation dream.

From Ms. Cui's perspective, she doesn't think there's anything good about flying a plane. It would be better for him to be her assistant and take over her job. Back when he was in college, if it weren't for his father's support, she would have insisted that her son study law as well.

Fortunately, her daughter genuinely loves being a lawyer and will take over her law firm in the future, which made her less angry.

"Oh dear, I just got off work, and as soon as I walked in, I heard someone criticizing me?" Mr. Xiang said cheerfully as he changed his shoes, his briefcase tucked under his elbow.

Upon seeing her savior, Cui Yuyue quickly cried out, "Dad!"

"Hey! My dear daughter, is working at the law firm tough?" Mr. Xiang put his arm around his daughter's shoulder, and Cui Yuyue whispered, "Yes, it is."

Seeing Ms. Cui's gaze sweep over her, she immediately said loudly, "Nothing is harder than my mother's hard work! I've learned a lot at the law firm, all thanks to my mother's guidance."

"Hmph, at least you studied hard," Ms. Cui scoffed.

Mr. Xiang looked at his son with a smile, sizing him up from head to toe. “Oh my, Xiang Yun has gotten so strong. He’s even bigger than your uncle now.”

"Men should be bigger, otherwise they'll end up like you, so frail. A gust of wind could blow you away in college." Ms. Cui was calm and sharp-tongued; none of the four members of her family could escape her sharp tongue.

Mr. Xiang had a scholarly air about him, and the family members all had their own professions. Except for Cui Yuyue, who worked at the law firm with her mother, they hardly interfered with each other.

Although Ms. Cui had some reservations about Xiang Yun's insistence on learning to fly, she still respected her son's opinion.

Now her only worry is Xiang Yun's safety.

Mr. Xiang was the head chef for dinner, with Cui Yuyue and Xiang Yun assisting in the kitchen. Ms. Cui kept receiving business calls, so she had to stop preparing to open the wine and go to her study to make calls for an hour.

After she finished her phone call, dinner was ready, and the family of three waited for her at the table.

"Dinner's ready, come and eat." Mr. Xiang said with a smile as he pulled out a chair for her.

Ms. Cui sat down, tucked her hair behind her ear, and frowned slightly. "Didn't I tell you to eat first and not wait for me?"

“That won’t do. Dad cooked the meal, and he said we have to wait for Mom to sit down before we can eat,” Cui Yuyue said.

Ms. Cui's expression softened. "Alright, we're at home, not somewhere else. Make yourselves comfortable and start eating."

The atmosphere at the dinner table was much better than before. Mr. Xiang asked about his two children's work situation, and Xiang Yun briefly talked about his flight experience. Cui Yuyue picked out a few interesting cases to liven up the atmosphere.

Ms. Cui spoke little and listened a lot. Seeing that Xiang Yun was silent and didn't say much, she couldn't help but say to him, "Son, you're too quiet. When will you find a girlfriend?"

"My brother..."

Before Cui Yuyue could even speak, a foot stepped on her instep under the table, making her wince in pain.

"What's wrong with him?" Ms. Cui asked.

Cui Yuyue forced an awkward smile. "Heh, he really doesn't have much time."

The feet under the table were moved.

Ms. Cui was displeased upon hearing this. She slammed her chopsticks down on her bowl and began to lecture him, "You have to make time even if you don't have it! Look at your colleagues at work, how come they all have girlfriends? If you say you're busy, don't you have female flight attendants, female pilots, or female ground staff around you? Either you don't live near the airport, you should just live at home. I happen to have a few clients whose daughters are the right age for you. If you live in the city, you can go on dates with them. If you live near the airport, do you expect them to follow you to hear the planes take off?"

"It's not suitable. Don't hold them back," Xiang Yun replied calmly.

Ms. Cui looked speechlessly at her handsome and tall son. Why couldn't he find a girlfriend? It was mainly because of his profession as a pilot.

Ms. Cui showed Xiang Yun's photo to some clients, and everyone who saw it liked it very much, but when they heard about his profession, they smiled and remained silent.

The rejection tactics are all the same: Your son is too handsome and a pilot; he's so sought after in the industry. My darling can't handle him.

Ms. Cui couldn't see how popular her son was in the circle. He was the type to refuse people's requests for his WeChat directly. Most people would find him too taciturn and wouldn't even give him a chance to develop a relationship.

“Our son is so outstanding, how could he not find a girlfriend? Son, you must bring a girlfriend home before the New Year, so your mother won’t nag you anymore.” Mr. Xiang patted his shoulder.

Such polite words were mostly meant to shut Ms. Cui up. In the past, Xiang Yun would either give a perfunctory response or remain silent at the dinner table, but this time he actually agreed.

"OK."

Ms. Cui was a little surprised. Could it be that this old tree was really going to bloom? Well, she couldn't just sit idly by. She would go find a friend later and ask her to recommend a few suitable girls for her.

Ms. Cui used to have some fantasies about her daughter-in-law. She had considered what kind of profession would best match Xiang Yun, and what kind of personality would be suitable for a quiet and reserved person to stay together. But now, well, never mind all that. It's good enough that the girl is interested in Xiang Yun.

"I should have known I'd give birth to you if you were uglier." Ms. Cui became angrier the more she thought about it.

Xiang Yun: ?

"Why?"

"What a waste of my good genes. Maybe people would trust you more if I were less attractive," Ms. Cui said.

Cui Yuyue laughed inwardly. His personality was already so dull; if he were ugly, how could Sister Xu possibly like him? Hahahaha!

“Even if someone is ugly, they might still be good at playing tricks,” Xiang Yun replied.

Ms. Cui's face darkened a shade. "Let me see you do a fancy trick! I'll break your legs!"

"Oh dear, why so serious? The child is all grown up now, it's impossible to have another one." Mr. Xiang acted as a peacemaker, shifting the topic to Xiang Yun's upcoming birthday, "Hey, son, isn't it your birthday soon? What are your plans?"

Xiang Yun had already made arrangements. It was a family rule to have dinner together on birthdays every year, and no one was allowed to be absent. They had to find a way to take time off to get together.

"I eat lunch at home and go out with friends in the evening."

“Okay, the law firm is free that day,” Ms. Cui said.

Cui Yuyue quickly raised her hand, "Mom, I have to go with Sister Keke to meet with the client that day, should I ask for leave?"

"Lunch is at noon."

"yes."

"Come back after you've met with the person in question."

"..."

Cui Yuyue silently shed tears. Her mother, who was very businesslike, wouldn't give her any special treatment!
