Chapter 173 Family Meeting
The two continued looking at the photos; each subsequent page had fewer and fewer photos, and the resolution improved.
As Xiang Yun grew older, he became less willing to be in front of the camera, keeping only one photo each year as a memento, and filling the rest of the empty spaces with landscape photos he took.
Xu Songning can see Xiang Yun's growth every year, from a naive junior high school student to the charming and mature man he is today. It's truly amazing how fast time flies.
"You were so handsome in college, didn't you ever think about finding a girlfriend?" Xu Songning touched his chin.
Xiang Yun rubbed his hand against hers, deliberately tickling her with his newly grown stubble, "If I had met you, I might have started dating you."
"Why?"
"Because back then, all I had was a longing for airplanes, dreaming of one day being able to pilot a steel behemoth into the sky. And I had never met anyone like you."
Xu Songning hugged him back, smiling as she asked, "Someone like me? What kind of person am I?"
She had met Xiang Yun's ex-girlfriend and knew that she and Qin Han were completely different types of people.
Xiang Yun had so much to say; there was no end to listing her good qualities.
Xu Songning has so many attractive qualities, and Xiang Yun finds each one precious. He can't help but be drawn to her, so even when she crosses his bottom line, he compromises and moves his bottom line back a little.
He closed the photo album, looked into her bright, watery eyes, and said earnestly, "Passionate, brave, and always full of love."
"Yun-ge, how can you be so cute?"
Xu Songning laughed, wrapped her arms around Xiang Yun's neck, turned around and straddled Xiang Yun's lap, and gave him a cherry-flavored kiss.
"Go to sleep. I have to work the night shift tomorrow, so I can't come back to sleep." Xu Songning gave him a peck on the lips, still wanting more.
"Okay, what do you want to eat the day after tomorrow? I'll go buy it." Xiang Yun patted her back and picked her up in that position.
Xu Songning wasn't heavy, and Xiang Yun had good arm strength, so he supported her steadily.
Xu Songning, like a boneless kitten, nestled against him, running her fingers through his hair and gently stroking it. "I'll eat anything, but right now I'm a little craving..."
She smiled slyly, leaned close to Xiang Yun's ear, and whispered something.
Xiang Yun's ears turned red from the warmth of her breath as she spoke, so he lifted her up a little and held her even more securely.
The lights in the room went out, leaving only a patch of white moonlight on the floor.
...
Xu Songning's routine for working the night shift is as follows: after finishing his shift during the day, he takes a nap in the airport dormitory, then goes to his shift at night. After finishing the night shift, he sleeps for a while in the dormitory, and then drives home when he feels refreshed.
She lay in her airport dormitory, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
Although her sleep quality wasn't great in the airport dormitory before, she could still fall asleep. But now that she's been with Xiang Yun for a while and he's not around, she can't fall asleep anymore.
A message notification sounded on my phone.
Xiang Yun: Have you left your seat? When are you going to sleep?
He took a short domestic flight today, one trip there and one trip back, and he's probably already landed at the airport.
Xu Songning couldn't sleep and was too lazy to type, so she simply made a phone call and talked to him with her eyes closed.
Xiang Yun answered the phone, "Song Ning."
"Brother Yun, I can't sleep," Xu Songning said sullenly. "It's all your fault."
"Is it my fault?" Xiang Yun sat in the car, originally planning to go home, but since his wife couldn't sleep, he decided to keep her company on the phone for a while.
"It's your fault for being such a good sleep aid. Without you, my sleep-inducing magic, I can't fall asleep." Xu Songning yawned. It wasn't that he wasn't sleepy, but he just wasn't sleepy.
"Then shall I read you a story?"
"I'm not listening anymore. Listening to your voice during the day makes me more and more awake." Xu Songning took out an eye mask, put it on, and got into a sleeping position. "Don't hang up. Just stay with me like this. Drive carefully home."
"Okay, will my driving disturb you?" Xiang Yun put his phone on the storage rack.
"Won't."
Xu Songning turned the volume down a bit on his end. Xiang Yun drove out, with soothing music playing in the car. The sound of the car and the music created a constant noise, and she started to feel sleepy as she listened.
Instead of going home with them, Xiang Yun went back to her parents' house.
When Ms. Cui heard that he had a girlfriend, she was afraid that he would ruin the relationship again, so she set a date for him to come home on Thursday to meet her parents. Ms. Cui was worried and insisted that he come back for a family meeting.
When the busy Cui Yuyue was dragged away from the law firm by her mother, she still had a lot of work to do. She was secretly pleased that her brother's big life event had saved her, but her mother told her to finish these things when she came back after the meeting!
When Xiang Yun arrived home, Xu Songning's place was already very quiet, with only the occasional heavy breathing sound confirming that she was fast asleep.
He silenced his phone and put it in his pocket.
Upon entering, Xiang Yun saw Cui Yuyue looking utterly hopeless, Mr. Xiang beaming with joy, and Ms. Cui looking completely serious.
"Sit down," Ms. Cui said, pointing to the chair in front of the sofa.
Her parents sat in a row on the sofa, ready to fight, but Cui Yuyue was leaning against the sofa and almost fell asleep when her mother slapped her awake.
"Brother, who's your girlfriend? Why are you being so mysterious?" Cui Yuyue barely managed to regain her composure, and angrily took a bite of a plum, the sourness making her teeth chatter.
"Son, what does your girlfriend do for a living? How old is she? What's her personality like? What do her parents do? What's her family like?" Ms. Cui followed up.
"Oh, don't rush, let's take it one step at a time." Mr. Xiang put down his book and adjusted his glasses.
Ms. Cui snorted coldly, "You haven't worried about this at all; I've been the one figuring things out."
"Didn't he find that partner himself?" Mr. Xiang said innocently, taking a sip of tea.
"Hmm?" Ms. Cui's piercing gaze struck him, and Mr. Xiang dared not speak.
Xiang Yun sat there calmly. "Let me tell you in advance, I'll bring her here on Thursday. Don't scare her."
"Are we that scary?" Ms. Cui asked him in return.
Xiang Yun and Cui Yuyue remained silent, while only Mr. Xiang laughed, "Your mother has a sharp tongue but a soft heart. She's a bit strict with you, but she's not bad to you at all, is she?"
"I may have a sharp tongue, but I'm kind at heart. You've been the one to do all the good things." Ms. Cui crossed her arms and rolled her eyes with a cold and aloof air.
"Let's stop arguing, let's hear what our son has to say," Mr. Xiang changed the subject.
“She’s a very nice person, two years younger than me, and works as an air traffic controller at Shanghai Airport. Her parents are most likely divorced, and she lives with her mother,” Xiang Yun said succinctly.
Ms. Cui looked unwell; she had initially thought the woman was a flight attendant, but it turned out she was an air traffic controller.
Although there is only a one-word difference, the nature of these professions is completely different.
"Sister Xu?!" Cui Yuyue almost jumped up.
