Chapter 176 Conversation

Chapter 176 Conversation

Just as Xiang Yun was about to say he would stay, Ms. Cui glared at him, seeing through his intentions. "What? Are you afraid I'll bully her? There's so much to do in the kitchen. If you don't go help, what time will we eat?"

Since Ms. Cui had said that, Xu Songning couldn't be unreasonable. She tugged at Xiang Yun's sleeve and said, "Go help your uncle. I know what I'm doing."

Xiang Yun patted her shoulder and said softly, "It's okay. If you feel uncomfortable, just come to me."

"It's not that exaggerated," Xu Songning said softly.

Xiang Yun took off his thin suit jacket, draped it over the sofa armrest, loosened the buttons, and went to the kitchen to help.

Cui Yuyue gave her an encouraging look and followed her.

"Shall we talk here? Or come to the study with me?" Ms. Cui sat casually, but she was not truly relaxed at all, maintaining an elegant demeanor throughout.

"Well, it depends on whether you're talking about business or personal matters. The study is probably your office area, right? It wouldn't be very convenient for me to go in," Xu Songning said casually, sitting down on the sofa.

Compared to Cheng Ou's parents, who were like a Peking Opera character with one playing the bad cop and the other the good cop, Xiang Yun's parents were much easier to get along with. She had met many people who were cold on the outside but warm on the inside, so she wasn't that afraid of Ms. Cui, just a little nervous.

After all, the other party was Xiang Yun's mother. She didn't expect anyone to be satisfied with her, but she at least hoped that Xiang Yun's parents could accept her.

If she can't accept it, then since she's already taken someone else's son away, she can't send him back anyway.

Ms. Cui is serious and doesn't smile much. Time hasn't diminished her beauty; her face still shows glimpses of her former charm. Xiang Yun's aloofness when he's not smiling is probably inherited from his mother.

"You do have some discernment."

"Aunt Cui, you are so beautiful."

Ms. Cui was stunned by this direct question. "What...what did you say?"

"I must have said that Aunt Cui must have been a campus beauty when she was young, otherwise how could Brother Yun be so handsome? Meeting you, I realized that he inherited your beauty," Xu Songning praised.

When Ms. Cui was young, she heard this kind of praise too often, but when she became the boss of a law firm, most of the praise turned into praise for her career. Coupled with her decisive and serious style of doing things, who would dare to put a good-looking label on a tiger?

Ms. Cui coughed lightly, put her legs down, and placed the fruit plate on the table next to her. "Have some fruit, don't just keep talking."

"Aunt Cui, what would you like to eat? I'll go wash it," Xu Songning asked her considerately.

Ms. Cui was somewhat dazed. Her two children were afraid of her and dared not be so close to her. She never expected that the younger generation in the family who was so close to her was actually Xiang Yun's girlfriend. She thought it was probably because she was meeting the parents and was being a little ingratiating.

Seeing that she didn't speak, Xu Songning suggested to her, "I heard from Brother Yun that you've been busy at the law firm lately. Let me wash some blueberries for you. They can help relieve fatigue and replenish energy."

"Okay." Ms. Cui kept a lot of things to say to herself, but was led by the nose by Xu Songning.

While Xu Songning went to wash the fruit, Ms. Cui was a little annoyed. How could someone her age be treated so casually by a younger person? She vowed to give Xu a good talking-to about her family and work when she returned.

Xu Songning went to the kitchen to wash the fruit as if they were old friends, whispered something to Xiang Yun, fed him a blueberry, and came back with the fruit basket.

"Auntie, Yun said that you picked out all the fruit for the house. No wonder the fruit he buys is always so sweet."

Ms. Cui snorted, "What makes him know how to pick fruit? He just took it all from his dad's place. Lately, he's taken a liking to fruit?"

"He didn't like eating fruit before?"

"Ha, getting him to eat something with vitamins is harder than anything else," Ms. Cui said dismissively. She really didn't know how her son grew so tall. He didn't like eating fruit, so how could he get enough vitamins?

“Lately, I’ve been eating a lot of fruit, and he eats some with me every time, but he especially loves oranges,” Xu Songning said.

Most of the fruit that Xiang Yun brought back ended up in Xu Songning's stomach. Xiang Yun relied on her to feed him; he wouldn't eat any fruit that Xu Songning didn't feed him.

Besides oranges, if you buy a bag of oranges and hang it in the kitchen, it will disappear very quickly.

Xu Songning clearly remembered that she hadn't eaten any yet, but two oranges had already disappeared from the bag. When she returned one evening, all the oranges in the bag were gone.

Ms. Cui's eyes widened, as if she had heard something unbelievable. "He ate oranges?"

When Xiang Yun was a child, oranges were his least favorite food. He had many reasons for disliking them: they were hard to peel, the juice was sticky, they would leave a smell on clothes if sprayed on them, and they tasted bland once cut open...

“He eats.” Xu Songning was certain that he had eaten all of her oranges, and he didn’t seem to eat any other fruit on his own initiative, but if she put it to his lips, he would eat as much as she offered.

When Ms. Cui looked at Xu Songning again, she no longer saw the arrogance she had shown earlier. From her words, it was clear that her son genuinely liked her and was even willing to change his preferences for her.

Xu Songning is indeed beautiful. From our conversation just now, it's clear that she's a humble yet assertive person. She also shows basic politeness to Xiang Yun's parents and is sweet-talking and articulate.

Ms. Cui couldn't help but worry about her son. Could he hold onto a girl like that?

Xu Songning sat down next to Ms. Cui, closing the distance between them further. "Aunt Cui, could you tell me about your law firm? I'm very interested."

"It's nothing more than a boring process." Ms. Cui rarely talks about these things with others. After her children grew up, they were all busy with their own studies. Ms. Cui is not the type to confide in others, so naturally no one brought them up on their own.

“How could I be bored? My mother is also an air traffic controller. When I was little, she liked to talk to me about her work. Tell me about it. I love watching legal programs and I’m very curious about the legal profession,” Xu Songning said with a smile.

Ms. Cui started by telling her about her own entrepreneurial journey, picking out some things to share. She initially thought the young woman was just trying to flatter her by saying she wanted to hear about opening a law firm, but to her surprise, the girl was actually listening attentively.

Whenever things get to the crucial point, Xu Songning can offer some insightful advice. If she doesn't understand something, she listens attentively and asks questions from time to time.

It wasn't until Mr. Xiang announced that dinner was ready that Ms. Cui realized she had been talking to Xu Songning about trivial matters and hadn't asked about her at all.

Xiang Yun walked over, put his hands on Xu Songning's shoulders, but looked at Ms. Cui. "Let's eat first."

Ms. Cui sensed something was wrong; she realized she had been tricked by Xu Songning again.

"How is it?" Xiang Yun asked Xu Songning in a low voice, "Is my mom scary?"

Xu Songning patted his hand with a smile, "What's so scary about it? Your aunt is very easy to get along with."

It seemed the two were having a good chat, so Xiang Yun felt relieved and led her to the dining table. "My dad cooks very well, so eat more and don't leave any room in your stomach."

"Okay."

Xiang Yun pulled out the chair next to him for her. Just as Xu Songning was about to sit down, the doorbell rang.
