Chapter 206 The Big Fan is Smoking

Chapter 206 The Big Fan is Smoking

When Xu Songning arrived at the airport, the weather was fairly good.

During shift handover, a colleague casually mentioned, "The weather has been changing a lot lately; it might rain this afternoon. Songning, please keep an eye on the weather forecast and update the announcements over the airport."

"Okay, the weather was alright when I arrived, so I shouldn't be that unlucky," Xu Songning replied with a smile.

Sometimes people really do have bad luck. As soon as Xu Songning finished speaking, the weather at the airport turned cloudy and visibility decreased.

When Xu Songning went out for lunch, he looked at the weather outside with some concern.

She called Xiang Yun, who had just landed and was having lunch at the company's base.

"Songning, what's wrong?"

"How's the weather in Nanchang?" Xu Songning wasn't in the mood to eat, poking at the grains of rice in his lunchbox.

"The weather's great, sunny and clear, takeoff should be fine," Xiang Yun chimed in, noticing Xu Songning's bad mood and the mention of the weather in Nanchang, which likely meant the weather in Shanghai was rather bad. "The weather in Shanghai looks a bit awful, is the command center alright?"

"It's alright, I handled the thunderstorms easily, but I didn't have much of an appetite."

"The rain will only delay us by about an hour, it's okay. Once I land, I'll take you to eat something delicious, okay?" Xiang Yun coaxed her softly.

The passenger in the front seat opposite Xiang Yun's eyes lit up. Holy crap! He and Xiang Yun had hitched a ride together several times and were quite familiar with each other, but he didn't know that Xiang Yun actually had a girlfriend.

Several flight attendants had asked him for Xiang Yun's contact information, but Xiang Yun wouldn't budge, so he simply wouldn't give it to them.

He coughed lightly, "Brother Yun, you have a girlfriend?"

"Yes, it's Shanghai air traffic control." Xiang Yun's eyes gleamed when he talked about Xu Songning.

This made the co-pilot quite envious. For people in their line of work, finding a partner is difficult; they have little time at home and struggle to balance work and life. The work environment is complex, making it truly rare to find a lasting and supportive relationship.

"Is this the control tower? Could you ask your sister-in-law to give us a good spot? It always takes so long to taxi to a good spot."

"It's an approach."

"Wow, that woman is amazing! Could you give me a good track?"

"cannot."

"..."

“Your sister-in-law is very strict about separating public and private matters, and she won’t even let you speed up secretly.”

It's clearly a complaint, but why does it sound so sweet?

The passenger in the passenger seat felt bitter inside; as a single person, I really hate you couples!

"All right."

“You’ll be the main pilot when we return to Shanghai. The weather there isn’t great; it might rain. If there’s any trouble and you’re worried about the flight, just hand it over to me immediately,” Xiang Yun reminded him.

The co-pilot nodded. He had done his homework before takeoff, familiarizing himself with the weather at the airport and the flight route. From noon onwards, the weather forecast for Shanghai that day predicted heavy rain, but when it would fall depended on luck.

The crew boarded the plane on time and completed pre-flight preparations.

Xiang Yun walked around the plane to check for any risks during takeoff, then returned to the cockpit and took out sunscreen.

The sun is strong in Nanchang, and it makes people's skin turn red.

He used to be too lazy to care about whether or not to wear sunscreen, but now that he has a girlfriend, if he gets tanned, Sister Xu definitely won't like to hang on him anymore.

Xu Songning had given her a small portion of the sunscreen, and she used that as an excuse to buy a new bottle.

"Brother Yun, you're even applying sunscreen, that's so thoughtful. Give me some too." The passenger reached out, trying to rub some sunscreen on his face. "I think my skin got tanned too."

Xiang Yun wanted to say that it wasn't just that he got tanned, but that his skin was also a bit thick.

"The principle of cockpit silence".

"..."

The co-pilot was thinking, "Fine, if you don't want to give it to us, then don't. Why are you using the silence principle to scare us? The plane hasn't even taxied yet! We're waiting for passengers to board!"

However, since the captain had spoken, the co-pilot remained silent and did not mention the sunscreen again.

After all passengers had boarded, the co-pilot was in charge of the return flight. He had a good grasp of the takeoff and landing procedures and had worked with the pilot several times before. Xiang Yun was quite confident in his skills, and the co-pilot was a good flying partner.

Xiang Yun contacted the tower ground control via ground frequency: "Changbei ground, Air China 1894, parking position 103, requesting pushback and takeoff."

"Air China 1894, Changbei ground, pushback permitted, nose facing north."

"Release the brakes and begin pushing out."

"Output successful. Headphones disconnected."

The co-pilot started the aircraft engines and contacted the control tower again: "Air China 1894, both engines have started and we request to taxi."

"Air China 1894, taxiing via taxiways A and C, waiting outside the runway."

After the co-pilot repeated the instructions, the aircraft slowly taxied down the runway. Once it reached the end of the runway, the pilot turned the nose of the aircraft to align it with the takeoff runway.

"Changbei Tower, Air China 1894, waiting outside runway 03, ready to go."

"Air China 1894, approaching runway 03, calm winds on the ground."

Xiang Yun and the co-pilot worked together to complete the pre-flight checklist. After receiving clearance from the control tower, the aircraft officially entered the takeoff phase.

The two engines roared like behemoths, shattering the tranquility of the taxiing. The enormous engine noise gave the aircraft a burst of power.

As the tires lifted, the steel behemoth roared off the ground.

The aircraft operated smoothly until it reached cruising altitude.

Ten thousand meters above the ground, the vast land was covered by thick white clouds, and looking down, there was only a vast expanse of white clouds.

The white clouds are thick and solid, like hard cotton candy, but they can also be easily torn into the shape the wind wants.

Occasionally a gust of wind blows in your face, turning the white clouds into fog and obscuring your view.

The aircraft entered autopilot mode and, under precise route guidance, flew towards its destination—Shanghai.

As we approached Shanghai, the weather worsened, and raindrops were flung into a line by the plane, drifting backward along the wing.

"Mommy, it's evening." The little girl pressed her palm against the glass, her two beautiful, glass-bead-like eyes staring out the window, curiously watching the airplane's outstretched wings.

“Baby, it’s still evening, but it’s raining in Shanghai. Sit up straight, we’re starting to descend.” The young woman sitting next to her pressed on the little girl’s shoulder and turned her head back.

"Attention passengers, the aircraft is descending. Please fasten your seatbelts and stow your tray tables. Due to rain in Shanghai, our destination, the flight may be delayed. Please remain calm and stay in your seats. Do not go to the restroom. Flight attendants, please be seated. There may be turbulence during the flight, please do not worry."

The purser's announcement came over the loudspeaker in the cabin; the plane was shaking quite violently.

The crew returned to their area, braked the dining car, put away water bottles and other items, and reassured the passengers.

"Please don't worry, this is just normal turbulence during the flight."

As soon as I sat down in my seat, before I could even fasten my seatbelt, the plane began to shake violently.

The jolt woke up many sleeping passengers, who, looking at the weather outside, genuinely thought it was already dark.

The little girl clung to the window with both hands. A plume of black smoke drifted past her. Following the smoke, she saw the roaring engine on the left slowly come to a stop in the black smoke.

"Mom, the big fan is off."

The woman gripped the seat in front of her tightly; the bumpy ride continued.

The woman thought she was talking nonsense, "Where's the fan? Don't talk nonsense."

“It’s true, Mom. Look, that big fan is emitting black smoke.” The little girl innocently pointed to the engine under the wing, saying something that sent chills down one’s spine.

The passenger sitting by the window behind the wing immediately looked out the window in the direction she was pointing, and screamed in fright at what he saw outside.

"The plane's engines have stopped working!!"
