Chapter 216 Online Meeting of Both Parents

Chapter 216 Online Meeting of Both Sets of Parents

The family gathered nervously around a laptop, while Ms. Cui casually tidied her hair.

"Your hair has been styled more than a dozen times, it looks great," said Mr. Xiang.

Ms. Cui glared at him and looked him up and down carefully. "Stop talking nonsense! Don't embarrass yourself later."

Xu Songning greeted her mother and said that Xiang Yun's family wanted to meet her via video call first. Ms. Xu readily agreed, changed her clothes, and sat in front of the computer, ready to go.

With both sides ready, Xu Songning and Xiang Yun stood behind the sofa, and Ms. Cui connected the video call.

Ms. Xu changed into a bright dress, waved at the camera, and smiled happily.

"Hello, in-laws, I am Songning's mother."

"Cough! Mom, what are you talking about?" Xu Songning's face flushed.

As soon as Ms. Cui saw Ms. Xu's face, she turned around and glanced at Xu Songning, saying, "In-law, you and Songning look so alike."

"Hahaha, of course! My daughter definitely looks like me. Her father only inherited her face shape; he didn't inherit anything else." Ms. Xu laughed happily.

“Xiang Yun is like me,” Xiang’s father said quietly from the side.

Ms. Cui scoffed, "You still look like me! How are you like me at all?"

“They all look alike. The eyes and nose are like the mother’s, and the chin and face shape are like the father’s,” Ms. Xu said, trying to smooth things over on the other end of the computer.

Xu Songning gave her a heads-up, saying that Xiang Yun's mother was quite serious and a career-oriented woman, and that she shouldn't think her cold face meant she was unhappy.

Ms. Xu opened the video and thought Ms. Cui looked very upright, no wonder she was a lawyer.

"Oh right, Xiang Yun said he had something to talk to us about. What is it?" Ms. Xu asked.

Ms. Cui was embarrassed to say that her son had just survived a plane crash and now he was taking someone else's daughter abroad. "Xiang Yun, you tell him yourself."

"Auntie, are you sitting down?" Xiang Yun asked.

Ms. Xu, puzzled but impressed, sat down on the nearest sofa. The camera suddenly dimmed. "Ah, Auntie is sitting here."

“Song Ning didn’t tell you the whole story about this plane crash.” Xiang Yun pressed down on his parents’ shoulders and continued, “I was the chief pilot of this plane, and Song Ning was the air traffic controller I was in contact with.”

"What?!" Ms. Cui almost stood up, but her son hadn't stopped her by pressing her shoulder first.

Mr. Xiang seemed to have anticipated this, and his emotional reaction was not significant.

Ms. Xu pondered for a moment, then chuckled and shook her head, "You guys, why are you keeping such a big thing from us?"

"This is outrageous! How could you not tell your parents about something so important?" Ms. Cui said sternly.

"We were just worried you'd be anxious," Xu Songning said, sitting down next to Ms. Cui and gently patting her shoulder.

Seeing how well-behaved Xu Songning was, Ms. Cui couldn't bear to be angry anymore. She could only glare at her son and say, "Look at this! How did things turn out like this?"

"Oh dear, don't blame the child. I may not know Xiao Xiang well, but I know my daughter quite well. They're afraid we won't be able to handle two bombs at once," Ms. Xu said with a smile.

Ms. Cui had initially accepted the news of her son's plane crash, but when the news of the plane commanded by Song Ning suddenly came out, she panicked.

Song Ning has been so patient these past few days, shouldering two responsibilities by herself. No wonder she hasn't been to work, and they haven't asked her about it.

“It’s all over now, it’s alright. I feel relieved to see Yun-ge back safe and sound.” Xu Songning held Xiang Yun’s hand.

Cui Yuyue could only comment that her brother and sister-in-law were both formidable figures, staying at home without changing their expressions. She thought they were really fine, but it turned out that they had both participated in the handling of this accident.

"Well, I thought it was something serious. Xiao Xiang even made me sit down. It's okay, Auntie can accept it. As long as I see you two together, Auntie is satisfied." Ms. Xu has a good attitude. As a former air traffic controller, she has seen a lot. As long as everyone is safe, everything is fine.

Seeing that Ms. Xu was not going to pursue the matter with the two children, Ms. Cui also decided not to make things difficult. She just glared at Xiang Yun, wanting to scold him, but then she remembered that he had just gone through such a terrible thing, and couldn't bear to say anything more.

Xiang Yun squeezed Xu Songning's hand. "Auntie, I plan to take Songning on a trip abroad tomorrow."

“Going abroad? Great! Where do you plan to go? Songning has few holidays and never has time to go out. Since you're free, why don't you take her?” Ms. Xu agreed.

Ms. Cui disagreed, saying, "Aren't you going to take a plane again? Aren't you afraid of something happening?"

“My dear in-laws, don’t be so scared. How could our children be so unlucky? Besides, civil aviation pilots are very skilled these days. A minor accident is nothing to worry about. Let the two children go out and relax.” Ms. Xu blinked.

This small gesture silenced Ms. Cui's words. She tugged at her clothes, stood up, and said, "Fine, let them go."

“Auntie, we’ll hang up now. We’ll meet formally again after you return to China.” Xiang Yun took the laptop away.

"Okay, talk to your mom nicely, don't fight, bye-bye." Ms. Xu waved goodbye.

Xu Songning smiled and waved to her mother before closing the WeChat call interface.

For a moment, the atmosphere fell silent as Ms. Xu, who was usually cheerful, was no longer there.

"Ahem, Yuyue, come with me to water the plants." Mr. Xiang got up and pulled his daughter, who had been watching the commotion, away.

Xiang Yun handed his passport and ID card to Xu Songning. "Songning, put these things in your bag, and also pack two sets of pajamas for me. They're in the first drawer of the cabinet on the right."

"Okay." Xu Songning knew he had something to say to his mother, so she took her things and went upstairs.

Xiang Yun followed Ms. Cui into the study. No one knows what the two talked about, but after Ms. Cui came out, she showed no signs of getting angry.

Xu Songning packed her things, keeping an eye on the commotion downstairs. She was afraid that Xiang Yun and her mother would start arguing and their tempers would clash, and then they wouldn't be able to stop each other.

The bedroom door was ajar, and Xiang Yun's footsteps were light. She was preoccupied and didn't hear anyone come in.

By the time she realized what was happening, a pair of strong arms had already wrapped around her waist.

"You didn't quarrel with your aunt, did you?" Xu Songning raised her hand and touched his face.

"No."

"Then why are you unhappy?" Xu Songning turned around and hugged him from the front.

Xiang Yun's voice was low and deep. She could tell at a glance that he must have something on his mind. After all, he had just gone through such a big thing. How could someone with such a big heart forget it so easily?

"It's okay." Xiang Yun hugged her, not letting her see his expression.

Xu Songning patted his back to calm him down, "How about we stay home instead of going abroad and spend time with our families?"

"Do you think I'm going to back out?" Xiang Yun used a little force to hug the person tightly.

Xu Songning bit his shoulder. "I'm not afraid you'll go back on your word. I just want you to be happy."
