Chapter 24 Sleep at My House
"Huh?" Xu Songning was stunned and didn't know how to answer for a moment.
"You were scared, weren't you? You're home alone, you probably can't sleep well. Why don't you sleep at my place? I'll sleep in the living room and keep an eye on you." Xiang Yun turned around and opened the door. The house had been cleaned up. Gu Xing had opened the window to ventilate the room before leaving, and the smell of alcohol had dissipated. The lights were on.
In the early hours of a winter morning, a cold wind blew in through the window, causing Xu Songning's hair to flutter. She looked up at Xiang Yun, her heart pounding.
"Thank you for your help. I'll grab some clothes first. May I use the bathroom?"
“Of course, you took me in last time, this time it’s my turn,” Xiang Yun joked.
Xu Songning smiled, and the key went smoothly into the lock. She didn't close the door, and Xiang Yun was waiting at the door.
Xu Songning moved quickly, packing up a basket and carrying it over.
Xiang Yun closed the door and looked around Xiang Yun's place. The overall style was beige, with a Japanese feel to the decor. The living room was very tidy, with no unnecessary items. There were two bedrooms in total, a large master bedroom, and the other, which had been converted into a study, had a large curved screen monitor and a black ergonomic gaming chair.
"You take a shower first, I'll go change the bedding." Xiang Yun pointed in the direction of the bathroom for her.
Xu Songning took her clothes into the bathroom, which was also decorated in a minimalist off-white style. Xiang Yun's toiletries were neatly arranged. After washing up, Xu Songning placed the transparent mouthwash cup and blue toothbrush on the shelf, next to Xiang Yun's.
The bathroom was nicely warm, blowing away all the chill.
After taking a shower, she changed into a cute set of pajamas, adorned with cartoon bears, a stark contrast to her usual style.
A Dyson hairdryer hung on the bathroom wall. Xu Songning dried her hair, applied hair serum, and smelled the ends of her hair; it still had that familiar scent.
Before leaving the bathroom, Xu Songning awkwardly tugged at her pajamas. She dressed casually at home and never thought of wearing pajamas into another man's house; otherwise, she would definitely buy a few decent sets of pajamas.
Xiang Yun changed into clean bedding and threw the old bedding into the washing machine. He turned his head and saw Xu Songning wearing cute pajamas, and his eyes lit up slightly.
Xu Songning in her air traffic control uniform, Xu Songning in her red dress, Xu Songning in her cute bear pajamas—every aspect of her surprised and delighted Xiang Yun.
"Isn't it childish?" Xu Songning coughed lightly.
“It’s childish, but it’s beautiful,” Xiang Yun replied, adding, “Really,” just in case Xu Songning didn’t believe him.
"Captain Xiang looks good in his bear apron too," Xu Songning said with a smile.
Xiang Yun smiled and shook his head, leading her to the master bedroom. Only one bedside lamp was on in the master bedroom. It was a white lilac-shaped lamp with a warm orange glow that was not glaring.
On the bedside table was a frosted glass containing a few diffuser stones, and Xiang Yun had added a few drops of fragrance beforehand.
Xu Songning sniffed; it was a faint scent of lavender, refreshing and pleasant.
"I've taken your bed, where are you going to sleep?"
"The sofa in the living room is quite spacious, I'll sleep in the living room." Xiang Yun handed over a cup of hot milk, and took one for himself as well.
"Thank you." Xu Songning drank it all in one gulp, feeling warm all over. Smelling the lavender, she even yawned, and tears welled up in her eyes.
Xiang Yun took her cup, put it in the sink to soak, and said with his back to her, "Go to sleep early, goodnight."
"Goodnight," Xu Songning said softly. She closed the bedroom door, and the light on the floor narrowed to a line.
The blanket was soft and warm. Xu Songning lay on her side, staring at the crack left in the bedroom door.
Xiang Yun walked over quietly, noticed the gap in the bedroom, but didn't close it properly. Instead, he turned off the living room light and went to the bathroom to wash up.
The sound of dripping water came from next door. Because the door was not closed, the sound reached Xu Songning's ears clearly.
She was so sleepy she was about to fall asleep, but she stayed awake until the sound of running water stopped. The clattering of slippers echoed in the living room again, stopping in front of the sofa, followed by the sound of the blankets rustling. Xiang Yun also lay down on the sofa.
"Goodnight," Xu Songning whispered, as if speaking only to herself. She buried half her face in the blanket, the new duvet cover exuding a woody fragrance, like Xiang Yun's embrace, enveloping and enveloping her, and she fell into a deep sleep as soon as she closed her eyes.
Xiang Yun glanced at the bedroom; orange light shone through the crack in the open door. He chuckled softly and whispered, "Goodnight."
Xu Songning slept soundly, without any ghosts or monsters haunting his dreams; he slept almost without any dreams until he naturally woke up.
My phone was on silent, and the curtains in the room were blocking out all light. I checked the time and it was already 2 p.m.
She drew back the blackout curtains, and sunlight streamed into the room, making her realize that she was sleeping at Xiang Yun's house.
The sofa bed in the living room has been put away and restored to its original sofa form, and the quilts and blankets have been folded and placed at one end of the sofa.
"Brother Yun, Brother Yun?" Xu Songning called out twice, but no one answered her.
She picked up her phone, intending to send a message to Xiang Yun, only to find that Xiang Yun had left her a message at 1 PM.
"I'm heading out for my flight at 3 PM. When you wake up, you can heat up the food on the table; there's a microwave. The key is on the dining table; I'll leave it with you and get it when I get back."
Why did you leave the key to me? Xu Songning took the key from the dining table and twirled it in his hand.
"Has it taken off yet? Are you coming back tonight?"
Xu Songning put down her phone, leaned against the dining table, opened the takeout bag and saw that it was from a Hunan restaurant near the airport. She had eaten there once before and the food was pretty good.
But how did Xiang Yun know his taste? Could it be that Xiang Yun can eat spicy food?
She unpacked the package, put the contents into a clean plate, and put it in the microwave.
"Quack." A notification sound rang out.
"Flying right away, coming back tonight, landing around 11 pm. Are you off tomorrow? Can you wait?" The message was followed by flight information.
"I'm off tomorrow, waiting for you, Captain Xiang. Safe takeoff and landing~ Remember to say my name." Xu Songning teased him deliberately.
Unexpectedly, Xiang Yun actually replied with two words, "Song Ning".
Song Ning, the name given to her by Ms. Xu Enxia, means to wish for peace. However, it may not seem to have any meaning to the average person, but when Xiang Yun pronounces these two characters, the meaning becomes clear.
Xu Songning smiled unconsciously, her heart leaping with joy, and she spun around in place, phone in hand. She was a carefree person; a good night's sleep was all she had forgotten about the dangerous events of the previous night.
While the food was heating up, Xu Songning turned around and went back to the bedroom. She hadn't had a chance to take a good look at Xiang Yun's room last night. Since he was letting her sleep in his room, she figured it wouldn't hurt to take a look.
