Chapter 42 May this scumbag be struck by lightning!

"What, are you afraid I'll take advantage of you?" Qin Han put her arm around Xiang Yun's back, wrapped her arms around his neck, and leaned her upper body towards him, as if she were hanging on him.

Who else but couples would do this? Xiang Yun is a person with a strong sense of boundaries, and Xu Songning knows this all too well.

She couldn't bear to watch any longer. Grabbing Ms. Xu's hand, she turned and left, saying, "Mom, the examination room is over there."

The next second, Xiang Yun slapped her hand away expressionlessly. Qin Han was just teasing him and didn't hug him tightly. She just loosely wrapped her arms around the air, but from behind, their posture looked extremely intimate.

"Stop fooling around. I'll leave when Auntie comes." Xiang Yun straightened up.

"I know you've been through a lot these past few days. It must have been my mom who morally blackmailed you into helping. Whether as friends or lovers, you're a really good person. But next time, don't be so easily morally blackmailed." Qin Han looked up and smiled.

She rested her chin on her hand, carefully recalling the past. "Xiang Yun, did you ever really love me? I feel like you only felt a sense of responsibility towards me. Was I too vulnerable back then, making you feel this inexplicable sense of responsibility?"

"Don't overthink it," Xiang Yun replied.

"All right."

Two simple words severed all future entanglements.

Qin Han actually felt guilty. She wanted to apologize for holding you hostage for so long, but she couldn't bring herself to say it.

"I wish you happiness," Qin Han said.

"Okay." Xiang Yun replied. He saw Qin Han's mother walking over, nodded to her, and then turned and left.

His back looked relaxed and carefree, and the weight in his heart was finally lifted.

Xu Songning sat outside the examination room, her mind still replaying the scene from earlier. "Ha, another scumbag."

She took out her phone and found that the "scumbag" had sent her two messages.

From an hour ago.

"The weather is great today, perfect for a morning run."

The message was followed by a photo: a towering tree filled the entire screen, sunlight filtering through the leaves like scattered gold, casting dappled shadows on the ground.

"Morning run? What a strange excuse." Xu Songning was too lazy to say more, and simply replied, "May that scumbag be struck by lightning!"

He then immediately blocked and deleted her as a friend.

After doing all this, she leaned back in her chair, still feeling short of breath. Unlike when she deleted Song Qing'an, she admitted that she had invested a tiny bit of emotion into it. Yes, just a tiny bit. To detach herself was the easiest thing in the world.

After Ms. Xu finished her examination, the two went to have lunch. The doctor wouldn't start work until 2 p.m., and the test results would take several hours to come out. The rest of the time was spent waiting.

Xu Songning silently fiddled with her phone. Ms. Xu didn't press her, but she felt a pang of regret. She hadn't expected that a man as capable as Xiao Xiang would be so fickle in a relationship.

Time passed quickly, and the hospital soon became busy again. Ms. Xu had received her test results, and when the nurse called her number again, Xu Songning accompanied Ms. Xu into the examination room.

Time flies. The doctor's hair has thinned considerably, and his face is etched with the marks of time. He looked up at Ms. Xu and asked, "Finished the examination? Let me see the results."

Xu Songning handed over all the examination reports, which the doctor carefully reviewed. He then typed on the computer and checked some information. No one spoke in the examination room; the atmosphere was freezing cold.

"Are you a family member?" the doctor asked Xu Songning, who was standing to the side. After receiving an affirmative reply, he typed on the computer, frowned, and muttered, "This won't do!"

Xu Songning's heart skipped a beat, and she asked, "What do you mean? Doctor, what does this mean? Is there a problem with any of the tests?"

"Oh, no." The doctor pushed up his glasses that had slipped down his nose and smiled at them. "I'm sorry, there was an urgent message from the department, I just went to reply to it."

My heart returned to the starting point, as if on a drop tower.

After reviewing the test results, the doctor wrote on the medical record in such elegant handwriting that Xu Songning couldn't understand it.

"The test results are fine." The doctor stopped writing, reassuring the anxious couple. "All the test results are normal, with no signs of relapse. Feeling unwell is likely a common problem for older people. Also, we need to consider the effects of menopause on the body, such as insomnia, irritability, elevated blood sugar and cholesterol, and bone abnormalities. I'll prescribe some medication for you. Take it as prescribed, and you should feel better in about two weeks. If not, come back for a checkup."

Xu Songning breathed a sigh of relief, and a smile appeared on Ms. Xu's tense face. She grabbed her daughter's hand that was on her shoulder and touched it carefully; her palm was sweaty.

"It's good that it didn't relapse. I was worried for so long. This knot in my heart is finally gone," Ms. Xu said with relief.

"Once you recover from this illness, it's not so easy for it to relapse. You've been recovered for ten years, and the chance of relapse is only one percent, which is almost negligible. As long as you maintain a good mood, eat and drink well, and live healthily to eighty or ninety years old, there will definitely be no problem," the doctor said.

"Thank you, doctor." Xu Songning was truly grateful; the doctor's words finally put her mind at ease after these past few days of uncertainty.

"Oh, it's alright, it's alright, everything's fine." Ms. Xu grabbed her daughter's hand and left the clinic, as happy as a child, unable to hide the relief on her face.

Xu Songning was more composed than her, "I told you it would be fine, don't scare yourself, can you relax now?"

"Don't worry, I won't overthink it anymore," Ms. Xu said with a smile.

After getting the medicine, Xu Songning returned to the car and looked through the instructions for the medication, writing the dosage in the blank space on each box with a pen.

Ms. Xu put the medical record back into her bag. Her hand touched the food container she had brought. Besides the durian that Xu Songning had eaten, there was also a box of cherries in the bag. She thought of Xiang Yun.

"Wow, want to chat?" Ms. Xu took the cherries out of her bag.

Xu Songning stared intently at the box of cherries, as if she wanted to pierce through it. Under her burning gaze, Ms. Xu tentatively suggested, "How about we throw them away?"

"Why throw them away? That's a waste. We should eat them. Eat everything he gave us." Xu Songning said loudly, opened the lid of the food container, pinched the largest cherry, and put it in Ms. Xu's mouth. He also pinched one for himself and put it in his mouth.

If the cherries hadn't had pits, she would have chewed them up long ago.

"How do you plan to handle this today?" Ms. Xu tore off two tissues and wiped the water off her hands.

What to do? Xu Songning took another bite. The cherries were indeed sweet, but tasteless.

Xu Songning thought that she and Xiang Yun were not together; at most, they had feelings for each other and were testing each other.

"We were never really together; it was just wishful thinking on my part. There will be no more 'later'," Xu Songning said.
