Chapter 57 Flirt and Run

Chapter 57 Flirt and Run

Xu Songning ran off after flirting, then comfortably lay down on the bed, ready to sleep. She had no idea that Xiang Yun was having so many inner monologues, nor did she know that Xiang Yun had begun to suspect her.

After reviewing his performance, he thought it was perfect. He teased Xiang Yun again without revealing the slightest flaw.

Before going to sleep, she forced herself to stay awake and asked Lu Xiaomeng to find Sanhua an adopter.

Lu Xiaomeng resolved the adoption issue quickly. Within two days, someone contacted her, expressing a desire to adopt the calico cat. However, the adoptive parents were in another city and wouldn't be able to come to Shanghai until next month. She hoped they could keep the cat for a while longer and assured them that she would treat the cat well!

Lu Xiaomeng checked the other person's student ID; she was a student at a top-tier university. Her social media posts included photos of her cat, which was clearly very well cared for—its fur was glossy and smooth, and it ate expensive and plentiful cat food and treats, filling an entire metal rack. On weekends, she would take her cat out to play, and her Ragdoll cat showed no signs of stress when interacting with other humans and cats.

Overall, Lu Xiaomeng believes this is a very good adopter.

Xu Songning thought the conditions were good. Since Ms. Xu was in Shanghai this month, she decided to take the cat home and keep it until the end of the month, when the adopter would come to Shanghai and she would give the cat to her.

"Brother Yun, when are you taking a break? Shall we go pick up Sanhua?"

Xu Songning sent a message to Xiang Yun before going to work. She didn't see a reply during her break, so she idly swiped through the WeChat chat box, scrolled up and down a few times, exited the app, and decided to go for a walk.

Before returning to the radar room, she glanced at her phone after her break ended.

It wasn't until the shift ended and Xu Songning returned to the car that Xiang Yun replied to the message.

"I was resting before."

"good."

Okay? And then what?

Xu Songning watched as the other person typed, and the status lasted for about a minute before Xiang Yun sent over a screenshot of his work schedule.

"You've been typing for so long, but haven't said anything." Xu Songning clicked his tongue, clicked on the picture, compared it with his shift schedule, and then set the time.

"See you at Terminal 2 at 5 PM on Wednesday."

"I'll treat you to a meal while I'm at it."

The meal had been delayed for quite a while. Xiang Yun accompanied her to the police station to give a statement, helped her deal with the Sanhua matter, gave her a birthday gift, delivered coffee to the radar room, a diffuser, a brooch to cover up the wine stains... As she recounted all this, Xu Songning felt that Xiang Yun did indeed treat her differently.

He wouldn't do that to others; he wouldn't even bother giving out his WeChat ID.

It doesn't seem to matter that he is Mr. X. The only thing Xu Songning cares about now is why Mr. X left halfway through that night. She actually has a guess. Ever since she met the girl with the broken bone at the hospital that day, she subconsciously felt that Mr. X's departure that day might be related to her.

But whether it was Xiang Yun's account or the girl's, it was all over. What urgent matter did Xiang Yun have back then? Could it be related to that girl? She wanted to ask, but she couldn't.

There's no way to ask.

She could only pretend not to know; a casual encounter as the start of a relationship was simply inappropriate.

Wednesday.

After finishing his shift and handing over the duties, Xu Songning took off his headphones, rubbed his ears, and relaxed his neck.

She went to the storage room to get something, and Sister Wang walked towards her with a big smile, "Oh, Songning! Your rumored boyfriend has come to pick you up."

"Huh?" Xu Songning was confused. He picked up his small bag and walked to the door. He saw a tall figure standing in the corridor not far away. It was Xiang Yun. He had changed into casual clothes. A gray, crisp overcoat made him look calm and composed.

Xiang Yun was replying to messages when, as if sensing something, he turned around and saw Xu Songning, dressed in a uniform, standing at the door. The two looked at each other from a distance, and Xiang Yun waved first.

Something seemed to be breaking out in Xu Songning's heart, the cracks growing wider and wider, making her breathless, and she took small steps toward Xiang Yun.

"Watch out!" Xiang Yun shouted.

The loose brick underfoot, which had been neglected for years, was getting in the way.

Xu Songning, who was usually steady on her feet, was in a hurry this time. She stepped on a loose brick and swayed, but was immediately steadied by the person in front of her. Xiang Yun's hand steadily supported her elbow, and the distance between them closed. Xu Songning smelled the scent that made her feel at ease again.

It's strange, she remembers Xiang Yun's scent, voice, and the temperature of his hands perfectly.

"Are you alright?" Xiang Yun asked, looking down.

"It's okay, luckily I wasn't wearing high heels, otherwise I would have broken them," Xu Songning joked.

"Let's go, drive my car." Xiang Yun naturally took the bag from her hand, which contained some throat lozenges and other odds and ends.

“I deliberately didn’t drive here,” Xu Songning said with a smile.

Sister Wang clicked her tongue and smiled brightly, holding a cup of warm water in her hand. Her apprentice beside her was a little depressed, and could only sigh as he watched the two of them walk away.

Sister Wang, with the air of someone who's been through it all, comforted him: "You should focus on your work. Sister Xu is no ordinary person. Ordinary people simply can't handle her."

Xu Songning is outstanding in appearance and capable. If someone like her doesn't want to be single, she can have countless suitors with a snap of her fingers. Even if she doesn't want a long-term relationship, she won't lack for short-term relationships.

However, no gossip about her had ever been heard in the industry. But when there was any news about her, it turned out to be about a very handsome man. Wang Jie really admired her for that.

"Flying so fast today? You've already changed your clothes? I shouldn't be late, right?" Xu Songning pretended to raise his hand to check his watch.

“You’re not late.” Xiang Yun pressed her hand down.

She added, "Won't I embarrass you by wearing this to pick up Sanhua?"

What kind of clothes are these? Air traffic controller uniforms.

She didn't like wearing the uniform skirt; she always wore suit pants with a white shirt, a name tag around her neck, and comfortable flat shoes, looking like a white-collar worker going to work in an office building.

Her clothes were neat and tidy, every wrinkle clinging to her curves. The suit pants accentuated her straight and slender legs. When she wore flat shoes, she was more than half a head shorter than Xiang Yun. From Xiang Yun's angle, Xu Songning's face looked even smaller and more delicate, and even the fluttering of her eyelashes and the newly grown downy hairs on her forehead could be clearly seen.

She usually wears her hair up in a bun, secured with a large hair clip. She has many different hair clips; today they are delicate, transparent ones. Her black hair appears even thicker, and her skin is very fair.

"Why would you embarrass me?" Xiang Yun asked in a low voice.

Xu Songning was doing it on purpose, of course. She moved closer to Xiang Yun, her body exuding a faint perfume scent, which was also the aroma of grapes.

Xiang Yun remained motionless, letting her approach. Her fragrance lingered around him, seeping into his nostrils and lungs.

She whispered back to him, "Last time, the nurses at the pet hospital thought we were a couple."
