Chapter 88 At Least Today is a Sweet Dream
Xiang Yun sighed, "Alright, you... wait until I get back to talk about it. Get some rest."
"Okay, I'll be waiting for you!" Xu Songning's trick worked, and she waved goodbye to Xiang Yun. If she had ears, they would have been flapping around in her head.
Sanhua followed at Xiang Yun's feet, watching him change his shoes. When the door opened and Xiang Yun walked out, Sanhua followed him out, wanting to go home with him.
Xiang Yun blocked Sanhua's path with one foot inside the door and stepped on the doorway with the other, making it impossible to close the door.
"Xu Songning, Sanhua is about to run away."
"It wants to go home with you, are you going to take it home with you?"
"I have nothing at home, and I'm afraid it will pee on my bed."
"Hahaha, alright, I won't make things difficult for you." Xu Songning casually picked up a cat toy and waved it in Sanhua's direction. "Sanhua, come and play. Don't bother your brother. He's going home. Say goodbye to him."
"Sanhua, be good in your new home." Xiang Yun squatted down and scratched its chin.
Sanhua raised her round face and glanced at Xiang Yun. As if sensing that she was about to be separated from this human, she was very reluctant to part with him. She rubbed against his trouser leg and then went to chase after the cat toy with lingering reluctance.
Xiang Yun's heart sank. Seeing Sanhua's reaction, he was somewhat moved. He was reluctant to give such a well-behaved cat away.
Xu Songning held up a cat toy and spun around, trying to get Sanhua to catch it. Sanhua meowed impatiently, spun around a few times, then ignored the boring human and burrowed into her cat bed, refusing to come out.
Xu Songning put down the cat toy, put his hands on his hips, and looked at the three calico cats curled up in a ball, feeling a little sad.
She didn't hear the door close. When she turned around, Xiang Yun was looking at her, his sadness evident in his eyes. She could only smile.
"Brother Yun, get some rest, goodnight."
"good evening."
Xiang Yun closed the door.
Immediately afterward, a door slammed shut across the hall, and the corridor fell completely silent. The atmosphere of seeing Sanhua off was so intense that both of them forgot about checking out the abs.
The next morning, Xu Songning took Sanhua for a walk, letting it take one last look at the neighborhood and its favorite spot in the grass.
"Sanhua, don't forget your mother."
"Will you forget? How long does a cat's memory last? If you remember it all the time, won't you be sad? It's okay if you don't remember, just remember this happy feeling."
After walking the cat and returning home, she started packing up Sanhua's things.
Sanhua didn't understand why this human was putting away all her things. It secretly watched her from the side and took the opportunity to steal one of the items she was packing.
Just as Xu Songning was about to put everything inside, she suddenly felt her hand was empty. She looked down and saw Sanhua lying on the sofa, a long cat toy sticking out from under its belly. Sanhua looked around furtively, as if the lost items had nothing to do with it.
"Sanhua, move aside." Xu Songning nudged its body.
Normally, Sanhua would have skillfully moved aside; it was a tacit understanding between them. But this time, instead of moving aside, Sanhua pressed down even more firmly.
But it forgot that it was just a kitten, and a strong human could pick it up with one hand.
Xu Songning took the cat toy away, and the calico cat jumped off the sofa like a madwoman, bumping into her ankle. The kitten didn't know how to express its emotions, and just kept bumping its head against the human.
She was somewhat dazed. She really shouldn't have used Sanhua's head to bump Xiang Yun before. Now, silly Sanhua has learned her lesson.
Ms. Xu walked out of the room and saw Sanhua frantically bumping its head against Xu Songning. She exclaimed in surprise, "What... what is it doing? Did you provoke it again?"
"Hmm, I upset it." Xu Songning picked up Sanhua, and when she looked down at Sanhua's round face, her heart skipped a beat.
A layer of mist rose in Sanhua's eyes, and her wet eyes looked at her like that.
After being picked up, it stopped struggling, as if it knew it was about to be abandoned again. It nestled quietly in Xu Songning's arms, enjoying this last warm embrace from a human.
"It's too early to pack. Let's pack tomorrow." Ms. Xu knew how painful it was to leave behind people or things you loved, and her daughter had a stubborn personality. She didn't offer much comfort, but simply patted her shoulder and put the cat toy into the cardboard box that Xu Songning had prepared.
The cardboard box already contained quite a few toys, some of which were old ones that Sanhua had played with, and some that she had just bought. The mouse was not put in, in case the adopter would dislike it.
Unopened cat food and cat litter were placed at the bottom, and snacks and canned food were also neatly stacked, with more than a dozen bags in total.
"Goodness, what about the cat bed?" Ms. Xu asked.
Xu Songning sat down on the sofa with Sanhua in her arms, her heart filled with mixed feelings. The moment she opened her mouth, she even wanted to back out. Seeing Sanhua's tears, she felt like a heartless abandoner. She felt she had been too cruel to Sanhua.
"The cat bed... was given to the adopter along with the cat. She said she would find a delivery service to pick it up."
"Okay, let's leave these for now, we can pack them up tomorrow." Ms. Xu took out one of Sanhua's favorite dolls from the box and waved it in front of it.
Sanhua showed little interest, sniffed it a few times, and then lay down again.
"Well, it seems I'm superfluous today. I'd better go out and dance, otherwise I'll be overwhelmed by the sadness in this room." Ms. Xu sighed. She had spent the most time raising the calico, but in terms of affection, Xu Songning was definitely closer to it.
Sending it away will definitely be the most painful thing for Xu Songning.
Ms. Xu quietly left to go dancing with an old friend, leaving herself and her cat at home.
Xu Songning opened a cat treat and touched it to the calico cat's mouth.
The calico cat stuck out its barbed tongue, licked around the cat, and only after tasting the flavor it liked did it perk up a bit. It then changed its position and lay in Xu Songning's arms, pamperingly finishing a cat treat in her embrace.
After eating the snacks, Sanhua felt a bit better.
Wherever Xu Songning went, it followed. Seeing Xu Songning approaching the cardboard box again, it stretched out its paws and frantically grabbed at the box, determined to destroy the box that was devouring its toys.
Xu Songning took the tape and went back. The cardboard box had to be sealed properly, otherwise Sanhua would definitely take it apart that night and take out all the toys.
The sound of tearing tape startled Sanhua, who hid behind Xu Songning, but she pulled her out and mercilessly tore the tape with her claws.
Only after sealing the box did Xu Songning feel at ease.
That day, Xu Songning was followed by a little tail. When she lay in bed to sleep, Sanhua also nimbly jumped onto the bed and lay down beside her.
Xu Songning pretended not to know that Sanhua was lying next to her. Previously, cats were not allowed on the bed. Every time Sanhua jumped up, she would cruelly push its butt, and Sanhua would jump down, wagging its tail and go to play with Ms. Xu.
A person and a cat, breathing evenly, took a peaceful nap on this cool afternoon.
Even though we'll be parting tomorrow, at least today is still a beautiful dream.
