Chapter 9 Captain Song's Transfer Red Envelope
"I checked, Captain Xiang's plane landed a long time ago. Captain Song didn't fly last night, so he must have been free. I think Captain Song has a better chance. Captain Xiang is too... aloof. Although he's good-looking, he doesn't seem to be Sister Xu's type." Lu Xiaomeng analyzed, stroking her chin, looking every bit like a detective.
Xu Songning's heart skipped a beat, and he asked curiously, "Why do you feel that Captain Xiang isn't my type?"
"He's so aloof! We met at the bar last time and we didn't hang out together. Our Sister Xu would probably prefer a warm guy like Captain Song."
"Did you take a bribe? Why are you praising Captain Song so highly?"
"I didn't accept it!" Lu Xiaomeng quickly waved her hand. Facing Xu Songning's questioning gaze, she hung her head dejectedly. "Okay, Captain Song sent me a red envelope, but I didn't accept it! I wouldn't dare to accept it without Sister Xu's permission! If there's no chance, wouldn't it just cause trouble if I accepted it?"
Xu Songning beckoned, and Lu Xiaomeng immediately handed over her phone with both hands.
The WeChat notification shows a transfer amount of 888.
Xu Songning frowned. "Are you sure you haven't been doing anything shady behind my back?"
"No! I swear!" Lu Xiaomeng held up three fingers to the sky, her expression serious.
"Please take it back. Dumpling, please thank your uncle and aunt for me."
Xu Songning picked up the thermos and took out her phone from the locker. She had forgotten to charge it before coming, and she was too lazy to check her messages.
"Okay, I'll do whatever Sister Xu says." Lu Xiaomeng obediently backed down in front of her.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, the roads were not congested, probably because everyone had gone home for the holiday.
Xu Songning bought some fresh ingredients, put them in the refrigerator, plugged in her phone charger, sat at the dining table, and ate dumplings while checking WeChat messages.
The pinned message was a red envelope blessing from her mother, along with a photo of herself standing in a sea of flowers. Ms. Xu Enxia is in the Southern Hemisphere, where it is a warm season.
Xu Songning smiled and saved the picture, setting it as the background for her chat with her mother.
"Thank you, Mom. Have a happy new year."
The countless red dots on her phone gave her a headache. She replied to her colleagues' congratulatory messages one by one, and eventually she simply copied and pasted them.
Before she could even click on Song Qing'an's message, a transfer notification appeared.
"Happy New Year, Ms. Xu. May all your wishes come true in the new year."
Are you working during the New Year holiday?
"Thanks for your hard work."
The words "Thank you for your hard work" were attached to the transfer information for 2000.
Xu Songning didn't understand what he was thinking. They had only met once. Even if they were interested, he shouldn't have transferred money. If she accepted it, how could she explain how their relationship developed in the future? She clicked "refund," thought for a moment, and replied.
"Captain Song, Happy New Year."
With a swipe of her finger, she continued replying to other people's messages.
After she finished replying to all the congratulatory messages as if she were working, she saw that Song Qing'an had replied to her.
"Miss Xu is being too polite."
"It may be hard work, but it's all for the people," Xu Songning replied.
Song Qing'an sent a laughing emoji, "If Miss Xu refuses to accept it, how about I do you the honor of treating you to a meal another day?"
"OK."
"Another day" is "another day," but it doesn't necessarily mean which day.
Xu Songning put down her phone with satisfaction. After finishing a bucket of dumplings, she felt warm all over. Wearing a wool sweater and furry shoes, she walked around the house to aid digestion.
After walking for more than ten minutes, she suddenly remembered the red envelope in her bag. She squeezed the red envelope and found that it was a bit hard, unlike the texture of money.
Xu Songning leaned against the door frame, opened the red envelope, and inside, besides the bright red banknotes, there was also a postcard.
The afterglow of the setting sun painted the sky red, and the rolling mountains embraced the French-style town. White walls, blue tiles, and green trees lining the cobblestone streets added a touch of vibrancy to the town.
What a beautiful city.
The castle-shaped postmark is placed in the lower right corner, which is quite distinctive.
She held it in her hand, took a picture, and sent it to Xiang Yun.
After sending it, I opened the photo to admire it.
The photo was held between two slender fingers with neatly trimmed fingernails. She looked at her hands with great satisfaction.
"Happy New Year, Captain Xiang! May I ask where the place on the postcard is?"
Judging by the time, Xiang Yun should be sleeping now, and he won't reply until evening.
Xu Songning yawned, tidied herself up, snuggled into the comfortable bed, and placed the postcard on the bedside table.
Once the blackout curtains were drawn, I slept for who knows how long.
The phone on the bedside table kept vibrating. A hand reached out from under the covers, grabbed at the air a few times, and finally grasped the phone.
"Hello."
Xu Songning answered the phone in a daze, her eyes slightly closed, her breathing becoming long and even, as if she were about to fall asleep again.
"Songning! Happy New Year, come out and have some fun! Hey? Are you awake? Miss, wake up!"
Zhou Qiao's voice came from the other end of the phone, along with the deafening sound of drums from the bar.
Xu Songning's remaining drowsiness vanished. She squinted at the time and realized she had slept for nine hours; it was already evening.
"Can I have a day off? I'm so sleepy."
The soft pillow supported my head, my black hair was spread out, and the down comforter was pulled up to my chin. It was so comfortable.
"A holiday? What holiday? Miss Xu, you're in the prime of your life, a beautiful 27! It's the New Year, there are so many activities outside, don't be a little hamster, come out and support me, there are lots of handsome guys tonight! Of course, if you want to bring a handsome guy, I don't mind either."
Zhou Qiao held her phone and grinned mischievously.
"Your smile is a bit lewd, Qiao Qiao," Xu Songning chuckled.
"I just want you to find someone soon, so we can see you showing off your love in front of us! Besides, your auntie has been urging us to help you find someone," Zhou Qiao said with a smile.
"Don't try to sow discord. My mom won't pressure me," Xu Songning bluntly exposed her.
"You, humph, I'm not talking to you anymore. Come here now, you have half an hour." Zhou Qiao hung up the phone quickly, not giving Xu Songning time to refuse.
Xu Songning didn't have any plans. Her mother would return to China for two months every year, usually during the off-season for flights, so she wasn't busy and could take annual leave.
In previous years, she would spend New Year's with Zhou Qiao and Lu Xiaomeng. Xiaomeng would take her home and cook a big meal with Xiaomeng's family.
Zhou Qiao personally oversaw the bar's activities from the first to the third day of the Lunar New Year, with Xu Songning helping out. On the fourth day, Zhou Qiao had to go home, as she had agreed with her family.
She changed into a red bodycon dress, then put on a well-tailored beige coat. She straightened her hair with a curling iron, instantly creating a wavy style. She picked out a few strands of hair near her cheeks, curled them, and sprayed them with hairspray, giving her a unique charm.
Matte eyeshadow accentuated her fox-like eyes, paired with bright red lips, giving her the imposing aura she exuded at the bar event that day—a stark contrast to her usual demeanor. Even her colleagues might not immediately recognize her as Xu Songning at work.
"Set off!"
