Chapter 177 Arrival in 1994

Of course Yang Jing knew that this plate was definitely not glued together, because in the history of China, there was a famous kind of porcelain that exhibited this typical feature. The name of this porcelain was "Ge Kiln Porcelain".

In the history of Chinese porcelain, porcelain from the Song Dynasty occupies an extremely important position, especially the five famous kilns of the Song Dynasty - Ru, Guan, Ge, Jun and Ding, which are the five most dazzling pearls in the history of Chinese porcelain.

The Ge kiln porcelain among the Five Kilns of Song Dynasty has a distinctive feature, that is, "gold wire and iron wire", that is, the surface of the porcelain looks like it is broken.

In fact, the reason why Ge kiln porcelain has this condition is that the porcelain makers at that time did it intentionally.

During the Southern Song Dynasty, two brothers named Zhang Shengyi and Zhang Shenger, who were from Chuzhou, built kilns in Longquan, Zhejiang Province to make porcelain. The kiln built by the elder brother was called Liutian Kiln, also known as Ge Kiln, while the kiln built by the younger brother was called Longquan Kiln, also known as Di Kiln.

When my brother was firing porcelain, because the expansion coefficients of the porcelain embryo and the glaze were different, the glaze layer shrank greatly when it cooled after firing, and a natural cracking phenomenon would appear on the porcelain glaze surface, with patterns like interweaving nets and cracked ice. Then he used ink, tea juice, gallic acid and other colored liquids as colorants to artificially penetrate into the cracks, and the color was very dark after coloring, forming gold and iron wires.

In this coloring technique, the large grain pieces are thick and deep, so the colorant can easily penetrate into them, and the color after coloring is very dark and eye-catching. The small grain pieces are thin and shallow, so the colorant cannot easily penetrate into them, and the color after coloring is lighter. The dark grain pieces and the light grain pieces are intertwined to form a network, which has a strong decorative effect.

This is the most famous feature of Ge kiln porcelain.

And now, what the old man was holding in his hand seemed to be an extremely rare Ge kiln plate.

Of course, Yang Jing also knew that the plate in the old man’s hand could not possibly be a genuine Ge kiln plate, but rather a “Ge kiln handed down from generation to generation” plate.

Although Ge Kiln is one of the five kilns of Song Dynasty, the real Ge Kiln porcelain has never appeared. The Ge Kiln porcelain collected in major museums now mostly came from the Qing Palace. Moreover, these porcelains do not match the characteristics of "Ge Kiln" recorded in ancient documents, and there is no archaeological evidence. Even the Qing Palace called this Ge Kiln porcelain "Ge Kiln" heirlooms, so later connoisseurs also called it "heirloom Ge Kiln".

But even if it is not a genuine Ge kiln porcelain, even if it is a Ge kiln porcelain handed down from generation to generation, its value is inestimable.

Yang Jing had only seen the Ge Kiln handed down from generation to generation in pictures, and had never seen the real Ge Kiln handed down from generation to generation.

But who would have thought that less than an hour after traveling through time, a Ge kiln plate that looked like a door wide open appeared before his eyes.

PS: I would like to thank “冰冷八度” and “pang/zi” for their rewards of 500 each!

It was suddenly available, which made me a little overwhelmed, so I flew back home overnight. Now that it's available, I don't ask for monthly tickets anymore, I beg for the first order!
