Chapter 212 Acquisition in Good Faith?!

There are thirteen paintings in total, eight oil paintings and five sketches.

All of these oil paintings were spread out on the big bed in the hotel room. Because there was no more space, several unfolded paintings were also placed on the table and chairs in the room.

Among all the oil paintings spread out on the big bed, the one in the middle caught Lin Dan's eyes.

"This... God, don't tell me this painting is that painting!" Lin Dan was a little at a loss, and even his speech was a little incoherent.

Yang Jing nodded and said with a smile: "If I'm not wrong in my appraisal, this painting should be that painting!"

"Wow..." Lin Dan screamed and almost pounced on him, but he stopped abruptly beside the bed.

"Brother Yang, can I touch her?"

"Okay, but you'd better put on gloves first. You know, the value of this painting is at least over 300 million US dollars now!"

It was an oil painting. In a slightly dim room, a man was sitting with his back to the front, and on the left and right sides of the man were two girls. The girl on the left was playing the piano, and the girl on the right was standing and seemed to be talking to the man.

Lin Dan hesitated for a moment, then shook his head and said, "Forget it, I won't touch her. My heart is thumping, I'm afraid I might hurt her..."

Yang Jing smiled and said nothing.

In fact, Yang Jing was also shocked when he saw these paintings for the first time, and after he used the holy ring to identify these paintings, even he was a little at a loss.

So far, only Yang Jing and Lin Dan knew about these paintings. Even Chris Barton and John Bruno didn't know about them. As soon as they returned to the room, Yang Jing asked them to rest and not to come to his place unless necessary.

The two bodyguards naturally knew why this happened and consciously did not come to look for Yang Jing.

It’s not that Yang Jing doesn’t trust these two bodyguards, it’s just that these thirteen paintings are too complicated.

The reason is that these 13 paintings were stolen goods! They were stolen goods from a case that was called "the largest theft in American history".

March 17, 1990 was the biggest carnival in Boston, USA - St. Patrick's Carnival.

March 17th of every year is St. Patrick's Day in the West, also known as "Green Hat Day". This festival originated in Ireland in the late 5th century. In 1737, some Irish gentlemen and businessmen gathered in Boston, Massachusetts, USA to commemorate St. Patrick and established the Irish Charity Society. Since then, the United States has celebrated this festival every year. On St. Patrick's Day in the United States, people usually hold parades, church services, dinners and other activities.

On this day, Boston was also in a carnival.

But none of the revelers noticed that right next to Boston's famous Isabella Stewart Gardner Art Museum, there were two furtive figures sitting in a red Dodge Daytona, waiting for the revelers to eventually disperse.

Time soon passed the early morning, and the Boston citizens who had been reveling in great joy slowly dispersed. Then, at about one in the morning, two guys in police uniforms got out of the Dodge Daytona.

The two guys in police uniforms pressed the alarm at the museum entrance and told the security personnel inside the museum that they heard unusual noises in the park and needed to go in to check.

The museum's security guards knew that they shouldn't let uninvited guests into the museum late at night, but they didn't know if this rule would apply to the police. So security guard Abate decided to open the door. After opening the door, the "policeman" suddenly said that he looked familiar, like a wanted criminal, so he was asked to show his ID. The "policeman" ordered him to face the wall and handcuffed him.

Abate thought it must be a misunderstanding, but then he realized that the two "policemen" did not search him before handcuffing him. In addition, he found that one of the policemen's beard seemed to be made of wax...

There were only two security guards at the museum that night. When another security guard arrived, he was handcuffed by two "policemen". When they asked the "policemen" why they were arrested, the "policemen" were very honest:

"You are not under arrest. We are only here to rob."

So the two security guards were taken to the basement of the museum.

Eighty-one minutes later, the two disguised policemen walked into several exhibition halls, calmly and leisurely took down the famous paintings hanging on the walls one by one, and then selectively snatched away as many as 13 masterpieces.

Among them are five sketches by Edgar Degas, a representative figure of French Impressionism; "A French Gentleman" by Édouard Manet, also a representative figure of French Impressionism; "The Storm on the Sea of Galilee" and "Portrait of a Man and a Lady with a Black Background" by the 17th-century Dutch painting master Rembrandt Harmansson van Rijn, as well as a self-portrait of Rembrandt. Among them, "The Storm on the Sea of Galilee" is the only seascape painting known to Rembrandt.

In addition, three works by Peter Paul Ruben, a famous 17th century Flemish painter and early representative of the Baroque school in the Netherlands, were also stolen by these two daring thieves.

Among the 13 lost paintings, the most precious one is "The Concert", a masterpiece by the famous 17th century Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. Among the only 34 paintings left by Vermeer, this painting is definitely the most valuable one. Some say it is worth $200 million, while others say it is worth as much as $250 million. Anyway, this "The Concert" is definitely the most valuable painting stolen in history.
