Chapter 247: The Treasure of the Last Tsar

Yang Jing grabbed the sheepskin map and looked at it on Lin Dan's mobile phone. Sure enough, the two black lines on the map were very similar to the Google satellite map.

Yang Jing nodded and was about to say something when the fat man next to him pointed at the sheepskin map and said, "Old Yang, there are words on the back of this sheepskin map!"

Yang Jing turned the map over and found that there were indeed several paragraphs of words written on the corner of the back, but they were all in Russian.

He readily handed the parchment map to John Bruno, who immediately looked at it carefully.

"Omsk was occupied by the Red Army, and the general ordered us to set off immediately. However, when we arrived in Tomsk, the temperature dropped sharply and a large number of soldiers were frozen to death. The most desperate thing was that the fuel of the armored train was exhausted."

"The general ordered us to change the sleds and use horses to pull them to continue our journey. He also repeatedly told us to keep the gold and artworks safe. The general said that this is the foundation for our comeback."

"When we arrived in Krasnoyarsk, we really couldn't move any further. The damn cold had frozen a large number of horses to death. Even our best-equipped Guards had frozen many soldiers to death. I told the general that we couldn't go on like this, and the general severely reprimanded me."

"After two days of rest in Krasnoyarsk, the general suddenly came to me and asked me to take some people north along the Yenisei River and take those precious works of art. The general said that he would continue to move eastward with the troops and the gold to attract the Red Army's pursuit. The general asked us to move along the Yenisei River to the Tunguska region for rest, and then continue northward in the spring of next year. The general said that the Red Army would not be able to find us in that area."

"In order for us to deliver this batch of precious artworks safely, the general left us a lot of precious fuel, warm materials and food. I took fifty soldiers who were most loyal to His Majesty Nicholas II and escorted two cars of precious artworks to set out overnight, heading north along the Yenisei River. As for the general and his comrades, I wish you a safe journey..."

John Bruno stumbled over the words, and finally said, "The signature is Kuvayevich Antonov."

"Kuvayevich Antonov?" The fat man frowned and muttered to himself, then said to Lin Dan: "Xiao Linzi, can you check this guy named Kuvayevich Antonov?"

When the fat man said this, Lin Dan had already started fiddling with his phone. After checking for a while, he shook his head and said, "There is very little information about this person. There is almost no information about this person on WikiLeaks, Google, and Yahoo, but he is mentioned here. This Kuvayevich Antonov is very likely the leader of Admiral Kolchak's guards and one of Kolchak's most trusted officers."

The fat man was stunned for a while before he said, "Old Yang, you see this map involves Kolchak, and this Kuvayevich Antonov also mentioned Kolchak's gold and artworks. Do you think this map could be related to the legendary treasure of Nicholas II?"

Yang Jing nodded and said, "It's not possible. If I'm not mistaken, this map should involve a part of the treasure of the last Tsar!"

After a pause, Yang Jing paced around the room. "First of all, the whereabouts of Nicholas II's gold treasures are now generally recognized to have been sunk into Lake Baikal by Kolchak. It is also said that a submarine once found a golden rectangular metal block at the bottom of the lake, but it was not salvaged for various reasons."

"Combined with what Kuvayevich Antonov wrote, we can now almost conclude that Kolchak did indeed evacuate from Omsk with a large amount of gold and some precious artworks, but the severe cold and blizzards greatly hindered his retreat. As an excellent leader, Kolchak would definitely not put all his eggs in one basket, so he arranged for Kuvayevich Antonov to lead a small group of soldiers to march north with those more precious artworks, while he himself continued to advance eastward with the gold and the large army, so as to at least ensure that part of the treasure would not fall into the hands of the Soviet Red Army. As a result, Kolchak did not escape in the end, and his subordinate Kuvayevich Antonov was likely to have delivered those precious artworks to the final destination, which was the island that Kolchak discovered when he went on an Arctic expedition when he was young. The island was named after Kolchak at the time, but it was only changed to Rastorguyev Island in 1937!"

After a pause, Yang Jing said excitedly: "This sheepskin map in our hands is very likely a true treasure map of the last Tsar!"
