Compared with living areas and oil wells, these militants from Libya prefer the small refinery.
These militants are not fools. They are of course well aware that in this kind of living area on the border, everyone is a soldier and almost every household has a gun. Even if the Algerian government's gun ban is strict, it cannot stop the determination of these border residents to defend themselves.
Therefore, if they wanted to raid a living area with two or three hundred people with just a few dozen of them, it couldn't be said to be seeking death, but it would definitely not end well.
As for the oil wells, most of them were scattered in the wilderness, and even if they were blown up, production would resume in a few days at most. But the refinery was different, it was the core of the entire oil field, and even if a section of the pipeline was blown up, the refinery could be paralyzed for a long time.
The most crucial thing is that there are several thousand-ton oil storage tanks in the oil storage area of the refinery. If those things can be blown up, the entire refinery will be wiped off the earth!
Therefore, this group of militants had already set the target of attack as the refinery!
Mohammed Azai is a captain and company commander in the Ansar Brigade, one of the six major armed separatist forces in Libya. Unlike the main force of the Ansar Brigade, which mainly operates in eastern Libya, the troops led by Mohammed Azai are mainly active in the Libyan-Afghan border area, attacking pre-determined targets.
The Ansar Brigade is a well-known armed separatist force in Libya. It is also the armed force with the strongest religious flavor among the six major armed separatist forces in Libya today. It is also identified as a "terrorist-related" armed force by some Western countries led by the United States.
The Ansar Brigade is composed of a group of fanatical religious elements who oppose Haftar, the largest armed separatist force in Libya, and do not recognize Haftar's "coup". At the same time, these hot-headed guys do not support the rule of the current Libyan Parliament, and have formed a de facto "independence" in eastern Libya.
In September 2012, the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was attacked, killing Ambassador Christopher Stevens and four other Americans. The United States accused Ansar al-Sharia of planning the attack and listed it as a terrorist organization.
Later, the US-backed Haftar forces launched an attack on the Ansar Brigade's base in Benghazi, causing many casualties to the Ansar Brigade. The Ansar Brigade subsequently issued a statement vowing revenge.
Under such circumstances, the Ansar Brigade sent many combat teams to western Libya. Because they had no way to retaliate against Haftar's forces on a large scale within Libya, but they had a way to cross the border and retaliate against the United States, Britain, France and other countries that supported Haftar's forces.
The attack on the In Amenas gas plant in 2013 was carried out by members of the Ansar Brigade.
However, due to the bombing of the Amenas gas plant, all the oil and gas fields and refineries near the Libyan-Afghan border had to increase their defense measures, which prevented the Ansar Brigade from choosing a good target to attack again for a long time. Later, Mohammed Zaire's men suggested that since the oil and gas fields on the Libyan-Afghan border were well guarded, why didn't we move north and attack the oil fields on the Afghan-Turkish border?
This time, the team led by Mohammed Zaire was preparing to change its target and launch attacks on some targets in the north.
Originally they chose the French O'Ham oil field, but some time ago the owner of this oil field changed from the French to the Chinese.
Well, the Chinese have a good reputation here, but we took the trouble to move from the south to the north, and it cost a lot of money. Since you Chinese dare to accept things from the French, you should at least show us some appreciation, right? Give us some money, and we can let your oil fields go.
As a result, these Chinese people refused to give in. The last time they came to negotiate, they were actually driven out at gunpoint by those guys.
Damn it, my aunt can tolerate this, but my uncle can’t!
No doubt, let’s do it!
After several days of preparation, Mohammed Zaire, with more than 70 of his men, boarded more than ten pickup trucks and secretly crossed the Tunisian border under the cover of night. After driving more than 150 kilometers in the desert, they crossed the border between Tunisia and Algeria, preparing to attack and retaliate against the "ignorant" Chinese oil field!
In order to re-establish their authority this time, Mohammed Zaire and his team took out all their assets - an AK47 for each person, three RPG-7s, eleven shabby pickup trucks, as well as a number of grenades, ammunition, and explosives.
In Mohammed Zaire's opinion, with the weapons in his hands, it is not difficult to break through the defense line of more than a dozen people. Even though those guys have good weapons, can they compare with our great Ansar Brigade fighters?
These are all real warriors. They have fought against the usurper Haftar's troops, they have endured the bombing of the "Libyan Regular Air Force" and the air strikes of those hateful Western countries. They are all real warriors who have walked out of the flames of war. How can the Chinese people on the other side who can only gesture with guns compare to us, the real warriors who have experienced hundreds of battles?
As long as we break through the Chinese defense line and install the C4 bought at a high price on the black market on those huge oil tanks, we can then enjoy the huge and gorgeous fireworks from a distance.
Besides, it’s the late night now, and the Chinese people might still be asleep!
