Led by Andrei Miladinov, the group boarded this huge 10,000-ton polar research vessel.
Looking at the ship from below, they thought it was big enough, but when they actually boarded the ship, they realized that it was much larger than it appeared.
This is a scientific research vessel, and a polar scientific research icebreaker, so there are many huge tools on board, such as the two cranes with a lifting capacity of 200 tons.
Seeing that Yang Jing and Gege were both paying attention to the two cranes that were lowered, Andrei Milaginov explained: "These two cranes are the largest equipment on our ship and also the equipment with the strongest lifting capacity. With these two cranes, a lot of heavy scientific research equipment can be easily loaded and unloaded. At the same time, these two cranes also have icebreaking capabilities. In special circumstances, these two cranes can extend their arms to the front of the bow, and then use steel icebreakers to assist the hull to break ice together. They are indispensable equipment on polar research ships."
Just like his accent, this big man who had just become the captain of the Blue Whale was a Russian immigrant. Before immigrating, he worked in the St. Petersburg Shipyard in Russia and had extensive experience in shipbuilding. Of course, his understanding of ships was far better than that of ordinary captains or chief engineers.
The layout of the ship is that there are cabins at the bow and stern, and the middle part is the deck. The two huge spreaders are installed on the deck in the middle of the hull. On the deck between the two spreaders, six containers are placed.
"After entering the polar waters, these containers will become natural refrigerators. Some supplies can be placed directly in these containers, saving a lot of space in the cabin below."
While explaining, Andrei Miladinov led the way to the cabin at the bow of the ship.
Unlike ordinary ocean-going cargo ships whose deck cabins are located at the rear of the hull, this polar research vessel has two deck cabins. Above the deck in front of the hull is a five-story high deck cabin. The topmost cabin is the cockpit, which is also the highest position in the entire ship. Usually the captain and the driver drive this ocean-going giant ship from here.
Below the cockpit are some laboratories and cabins where scientific researchers live. Some key crew members also live in the deck cabin at the bow.
There is also a deck cabin at the stern, which is only three stories high. It mainly houses the wheelhouse, helicopter parking cabin and the engineer's living cabin. Of course, under the stern deck cabin is the heart of the entire ship - the engine.
As for the rear of the stern deck cabin, that is, outside the helicopter parking bay, there is a helicopter pad.
The Blue Whale is equipped with an Agusta AW109 light helicopter, an extremely mature helicopter that can fly even in Antarctica after proper modification.
Below the deck is the cargo hold. The huge cargo hold can carry a large amount of supplies. Because polar research ships are not only responsible for polar research, but also for transporting supplies to polar research stations, the displacement of polar research ships is often not small, so that they can bring enough supplies to polar research stations in one trip.
However, when Yang Jing and his team entered the cargo hold, except for some equipment such as snowmobiles and snowmobiles, all other storage spaces for supplies were empty.
"Mr. Lin, we are not sure how long it will take to go to the Arctic Ocean, nor do we know what kind of supplies and equipment you need, so we have not carried out any replenishment. Of course, if you can determine the supplies and additional equipment you need, we can complete the replenishment of the supplies needed for this voyage within two days. From fresh water to food, medicines to the additional equipment you need, we can complete the replenishment within two days."
After hearing Andre's explanation, Yang Jing understood what he meant. Captain Andre had made it very clear. First, we don't know what supplies you need and what kind of extra equipment you need, so we can't supply you. Second, you are renting a boat. According to the lease agreement, you have to pay for the supplies and fuel. If you don't pay, how can we supply you?
Yang Jing nodded, turned to Lin Dan and said, "Today you should discuss with Captain Andre what supplies are needed. Well, I mean ordinary supplies. We are going to the polar seas and the land in the Arctic region. Captain Andre knows the most about some ordinary supplies. As for special supplies, you can discuss it with Chris and the others."
Lin Dan nodded to show that he understood. Ordinary supplies are very simple, nothing more than fresh water, oil, food, medicine and other things. Supplies that can meet daily needs and those used during scientific expeditions are ordinary supplies. As for special supplies, it goes without saying that guns and ammunition, some high-precision military products, these are all special supplies.
Captain Andre has no use for these special supplies, but Chris and the others certainly can.
This time they went to the Arctic region not just for fun, they were going to hunt for treasure. No one knew what kind of emergencies they would encounter, so the necessary guns and ammunition had to be prepared.
But Yang Jing doesn't have to worry about these things. Chris and the others are the experts. Whatever they need, Yang Jing just needs to pay for it.
After a tour of the ship, both Yang Jing and Gege were very satisfied. Although this ship was not as luxurious as those super yachts built by the rich at great expense, it was also quite good, much more comfortable than ordinary ocean-going cargo ships, and even if it could not be compared with the top cruise ships, it was definitely not much worse.
