The food that Alert Camp can provide is too little. Before the Smith Strait completely thaws, their supplies can only rely on airplanes. So the most common food here is some flour, rice, deep-frozen meat and dehydrated vegetables. Although there are many varieties, if they eat these things almost every day, even the delicacies from land and sea will probably be bland in their mouths.
What Yang Jing and his team brought were undoubtedly delicacies for the people in the camp.
Apart from anything else, the hundreds of kilograms of fresh vegetables alone have become the most sought-after items in the camp, even more popular than top-quality ingredients such as Australian Wagyu beef and Dong Tao chicken.
Especially after seeing the red tomatoes, green broccoli, rapeseed, purple onions and fresh cabbage, each of them was like an Arctic wolves that had been hungry for a whole winter, and their eyes wished they could emit a foot-long green light.
These vegetables were purchased by Andre and Lin Dan in Nuuk. However, some vegetables cannot be preserved for too long even at the most suitable temperature, so these vegetables became cheap for the people in the camp.
In fact, most of the food brought from the Blue Whale was fresh vegetables, followed by frozen seafood, and very little meat. The Alert Camp was not short of meat, but they were short of fresh vegetables and seafood.
Fresh vegetables are understandable, after all, even in the hottest summer, vegetables don't grow here. But seafood is also extremely scarce here.
There was no other way. Although Alert was close to the Arctic Ocean, there was no dock or fishing boat, so there was no way to go out to sea to fish. If they relied on fishing rods, wouldn't all these people starve to death?
So seafood is also very popular here.
The food that Yang Jing and his team brought with them weighed a total of 200 kilograms. This was because Andre had mentioned in Nuuk that they would stop at Alert. The people there liked these ingredients the most, so Yang Jing specifically asked Lin Dan to add more vegetables and seafood.
For these people, these ingredients are only enough for two meals at most. But it doesn't matter, there are plenty of supplies on the Blue Whale, even if Yang Jing and his men stay here for a month, it is enough to cover the consumption here.
"Albert, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, we would have to wait at least twenty more days before we could eat fresh vegetables." Old Kyle walked to Yang Jing with a glass of wine. He stood side by side with Yang Jing and watched the people dancing happily around the campfire. Dozens of Alaskan sled dogs were running around excitedly in the crowd, barking from time to time.
These cute puppies were brought by the four guys who crossed the North American continent on foot. There were more than 60 of them in total. If it weren't for these brave puppies, they wouldn't have been able to complete the journey across North America. At least in the Arctic Islands in winter, without dog sleds, they would have died of exhaustion and not been able to complete the journey of thousands of miles.
These puppies are obviously well taken care of. They are fat and strong, and they get along well with the people in the camp. With their presence, the camp has become more lively.
"It's nothing, Kyle. You are doing scientific research here and deserve the respect of people all over the world. I just happened to pass by here and did what I should do." Yang Jing turned his head and looked at the respected old scholar sincerely.
"So, how long do you plan to stay here? I heard from Andre that you are going out to sea this time to have a vacation with your fiancée. If that's the case, I suggest you stay here for a while longer. Now and in the future is the most beautiful time near Alert, where you can see walruses, seals, and of course polar bears. If you are lucky, you can also see whales. The Arctic Ocean in the warm season is still very interesting. If you are willing to go to Kuttinirpääk National Park in the west, you can appreciate the permafrost up close, and if you want, you can also hunt there. This season is when Arctic wolves follow Arctic hares and Arctic foxes northward, and those ferocious guys need to be dealt with with shotguns."
Yang Jing asked, "Don't you need a hunting license to hunt here?"
"NO! Of course not. There's not even a single person in sight here, so why would we need that thing? Besides, these Arctic wolves are very dangerous. Every year, some sneak into the camp. Fortunately, we have guns here, and there are a few real soldiers in the north. Lieutenant Rodman alone hunted seven Arctic wolves last year. It's a pity that wolf meat doesn't taste good..."
Yang Jing smiled, raised his glass and clinked it with Old Kyle's, "I do plan to stay here for a few more days, of course, if you don't think we're disturbing you."
Old Kyle took a sip of wine. "How is that possible? There are plenty of places to live here. In the past, there were as many as 200 people here. Now there are only more than 20 of us. We can just find a few rooms to accommodate all of you. You can stay here as long as you want. No one will say anything. People here hope that more people will come. We have stayed here for too long and it is too lonely."
Yang Jing smiled and said, "If that's the case, then we'll bother you."
Old Kyle pointed at the dancing group and asked, "Why don't you go down and dance with them? This can make you feel happier and help release some of the negative emotions that have accumulated during the voyage."
Yang Jing shrugged his shoulders and said with a smile: "I know nothing about this, so I can only watch them dance..."
