Since the construction of the Lei Reservoir began in the 1990s and the Yellow River was diverted at the end of 1997, after the Lei Reservoir began to store water, this vast expanse of water has begun to take on various shapes.
Because the dam is built in the mountains to store water, the water level of the Lei Reservoir varies. As the water level changes, islands and peninsulas of different shapes appear on the lake, with various shapes and strange shapes. Therefore, Lei is known as the "Thousand Island Lake in the North" and it is well deserved.
When the Lei Reservoir is at its normal water level, it can flood an area of more than 270 square kilometers. When the Lei Project was built, the areas involved in the relocation of immigrants reached as many as 33 townships in eight counties of two provinces, and more than 200,000 people were relocated. Many villages that were on the banks of the Yellow River before the reservoir was filled with water were all submerged below the water level after the reservoir was filled with water.
The Songjia Village that the old man mentioned is one of such villages that was submerged below the sea level.
After Yang Jing drove the speedboat westward for about 15 kilometers, he looked up to the south and could clearly see a group of mountains of different heights standing on the south bank of the Yellow River. Sixteen of the mountains were over one thousand meters above sea level.
It turned out that what the old man said just now was right. The only mistake was that only within this short range of about 200 meters could one see the sixteen peaks in their entirety. As long as one left this range, there would always be one or even more peaks blocked by other peaks.
This is a very magical location, just like the Nine Horses Painting Mountain in Guilin. You can’t see the horse after passing this location.
Yang Jing drove the speedboat back and forth several times and finally confirmed that what the old man said was correct. The entire Lei Reservoir is more than 100 kilometers long from east to west, but only in this section of water about 200 meters wide can the Sixteen Peaks of Daimei on the south bank of the reservoir be clearly and completely seen.
Yang Jing parked the speedboat near the north bank of the reservoir. The width of this section of water was only a little over one kilometer. From this position, with the help of the rising sun, Yang Jing could clearly see the Sixteen Peaks of Daimei about two or three kilometers away.
What made Yang Jing ecstatic was that the shapes and positions of these sixteen peaks were almost the same as those painted on the silk. If there were any differences, it was only because of the different viewing positions and heights.
You have to know that when Yuechengzi painted this picture more than a thousand years ago, there was no mine engineering at that time, and the surface of this section of the Yellow River was very narrow. The most important thing is that the elevation of the Yellow River at that time was only more than 130 meters above sea level, while the elevation of the Lei Reservoir now is more than 270 meters.
In other words, the altitude at which Yang Jing is now located is more than one hundred meters higher than the altitude at which Yuechengzi drew the map a thousand years ago.
The difference in observation positions and altitudes naturally resulted in subtle differences between the Sixteen Peaks of Daimei that Yang Jing saw now and the sixteen peaks in the picture.
But the difference is not big. The most important thing is that the positions and shapes of the Sixteen Peaks of Dark Eyebrow are almost the same. This allows Yang Jing to directly judge that the sixteen peaks drawn by Yue Chengzi are the Sixteen Peaks of Dark Eyebrow not far away!
In other words, the Yuecheng Temple marked in the picture is nearby!
At this time, more and more fishing boats could be seen on the lake, but Yang Jing ignored them and drove the speedboat slowly from north to south in this area. When he was almost approaching the south bank, Yang Jing realized that when he looked at the Sixteen Peaks of Daimei from here, the real scenery was almost exactly the same as the sixteen peaks drawn in the picture.
"Bingo!" Yang Jing waved his fist excitedly. There was no doubt that he had found the place painted on the silk by thinking, checking and guessing.
This is also thanks to the current developed Internet, which can find everything with a search. If there was no such convenient Internet thirty years ago, Yang Jing would never have been able to find this place in such a short time. Even if he narrowed the scope to the vicinity of Luoyang and Xi'an, he would not be able to find this exact location so quickly.
However, at this location, there was water all around. Even though Yang Jing was only ten meters away from the shore, it was still water. There was not even a shadow of the Yuecheng Temple painted on the silk.
But Yang Jing was not worried, because as the old man said, there was indeed an ancient Taoist temple nearby. Even though it was destroyed during the Four Olds Movement, after the reform and opening up, wasn't it reopened by Taoist priests? If the reservoir hadn't been built here, the Taoist temple might still be preserved in its original place.
Obviously, the Taoist temple has been submerged under the water. Although it is not known whether the Taoist temple is the Yuecheng Temple, since it appears in this area, it is very likely to be this Taoist temple.
And just because others cannot go underwater to investigate this Taoist temple, it doesn’t mean that Yang Jing cannot investigate it.
Yang Jing took out his phone and checked some information about Lei Reservoir. He learned that the resettlement work of Lei Reservoir was carried out in three phases, and the first batch of resettlement work began in 1995. The Yuecheng Temple in the picture is located on the bank of the Yellow River. If the Taoist temple mentioned by the old man is Yuecheng Temple, it should be one of the first batch of resettlers.
As for whether there is a Taoist temple under the water and whether that Taoist temple is the same as the Yuecheng Temple on the silk, we have to go back to the time before the reservoir was filled with water and verify it carefully.
Yang Jing wanted to activate his time-travelling skills and go back to before 1995, but there were many fishing boats on the lake. If he went back now, there would only be one empty boat left. It wouldn't be long before some fishermen would suspect that he had committed suicide by jumping into the water.
