After hearing this, King Zhuang of Chu was speechless and did not force it any further. He soon left the territory of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty.
This is the origin of “asking for the Central Plains”.
King Zhuang of Chu was certainly not just a curious child, he just wanted to know the importance of the Nine Cauldrons. From Wang Sunman's answer, it is not difficult to see that the Nine Cauldrons are the symbol of the country, and its migration represents the transfer of power. Therefore, King Zhuang of Chu's questioning revealed his ambition to replace the Zhou Dynasty.
After the Warring States Period, the princes asked Zhou Zi for the Nine Cauldrons more and more frequently. Not only did Qin send troops to Zhou many times to ask for the Nine Cauldrons, but Qi, Wei, Chu and other countries also yearned for the Nine Cauldrons and wished they could monopolize them. Zhou Zi traveled among the countries, taking advantage of their conflicts to keep the national treasure with difficulty.
From this we can see how important the Nine Cauldrons are in the minds of emperors and princes of all dynasties in China.
Unfortunately, the Nine Cauldrons were lost during the reign of King Xuan of Zhou, the third to last emperor of the Zhou Dynasty. Even Qin Shihuang could not find the whereabouts of the Nine Cauldrons. Perhaps because the Nine Cauldrons were not found, Qin Shihuang felt that his throne was not legitimate, so he ordered Li Si to create the Imperial Seal.
In a sense, the Imperial Seal is the successor of the Nine Cauldrons. If the Nine Cauldrons of Dayu had not been lost in history, there would probably be no such thing as the Imperial Seal.
The Nine Cauldrons of Yu the Great were passed down for 2,000 years and lost for more than 2,000 years. So until now, no one has been able to figure out what shape the Nine Cauldrons cast by Yu the Great were. Was it square or round? Did it have four legs or three legs? What inscriptions and patterns were on the inside and outside of the cauldron?
However, the only record about Dayu's nine tripods is in Volume 2 of Yongshi Yiji, which states: "Yu cast nine tripods, five of which correspond to the yang method and four to represent the yin number.
From the records in "Shi Yi Ji", it can be judged that five of Dayu's Nine Cauldrons should be three-legged round tripods, and four should be four-legged square tripods, which just correspond to the "round square".
The nine tripods in front of us are exactly of this shape. Although they were imitated by Wu Zetian, they can serve as a very good proof for the real Nine Tripods of Dayu.
Although these nine tripods are imitations, their value is absolutely inestimable. However, Yang Jing still sighed a little greedily, wishing that the nine tripods in front of him were the real Nine Tripods of Dayu...
