Chapter 580: Shipwreck

This ship is different from the sunken warships that Yang Jing had seen in the waters near Lorengao Port before. From its appearance, this ship looks more like an armed transport ship.

The water depth of the sea area chosen by Yang Jing today is quite good, exceeding two hundred meters. However, not far to the east of where Yang Jing anchored, there is a protruding ridge, and the armed transport ship lies flat on this ridge.

The distance between the sea ridge and the sea surface is only sixty or seventy meters, so the sunken armed transport ship sank above the sea ridge. Even without the help of lights, Yang Jing could see the ship clearly after getting closer.

The reason why we can be sure that this is a Japanese armed transport ship is that although the ship has sunk on the seabed for more than seventy years, the ship number can still be barely seen clearly. The name of the ship is "Dai-ichi Shinko Maru".

Moreover, the twin-mounted 120mm guns can be seen at the stern of the ship, and on the decks on both sides of the hull, rusted 25mm rapid-fire guns can be seen.

This kind of weaponry was standard equipment for Japanese armed transport ships during World War II. If the ship was intact, it should be more than 80 meters long and have a displacement of nearly 3,000 tons. Unfortunately, the entire bow of the ship has disappeared. Yang Jing estimated that the ship should have been bombed by dive bombers of the US-Australia coalition forces, and then the ammunition depot under the main gun on the bow was hit, and the ammunition exploded, directly blowing up the entire bow, which caused the ship to sink rapidly.

The explosion of an ammunition depot is a very terrifying thing, especially for a transport ship with a thin skin and a large interior. Even if it is a battleship, if the explosion is serious, it can directly sink a battleship with a displacement of more than 30,000 tons.

The entire bow of the "Daiichi Xinxing Maru" was blown away. Apart from the explosion of the medicine depot, Yang Jing really couldn't think of any other way that could have caused the ship to become so miserable.

However, this armed transport ship also reminded Yang Jing of a naval battle that took place in the Kuril Islands in northern Japan after the Japanese emperor announced his unconditional surrender.

That naval battle was between two Japanese armed transport ships and two Russian IX-6NC type submarines. One of the two Japanese armed transport ships, the one that made the greatest contribution, was named "Daini Xinxing Maru".

That ship should be a sister ship of the armed transport ship that sank to the bottom of the sea.

Near the end of World War II, many little-known battles broke out between the Russians and the Japanese army, including the last naval battle of World War II.

It was August 22, 1945. The Soviet submarines L-19 and L-12 continued their combat patrols in the waters near Hokkaido. At this time, it was already a week after Emperor Hirohito of Japan announced the unconditional surrender.

Because of the ownership of the Kuril Islands, the Soviet army was preparing for the Shumshu Island landing battle. At this time, the two submarines of the Soviet Pacific Fleet encountered two Japanese transport ships.

One of the two ships was a cargo ship called "Taito Maru", which was carrying 700 people. However, under the joint attack of two Soviet submarines, the ship was sent to the bottom of the sea by two torpedoes without even struggling, and more than 700 passengers on board were also killed.

After the two Soviet submarines successfully ambushed the enemy, they continued sailing until they saw a larger cargo ship approaching the port of Hokkaido through the periscope. This was another Japanese transport ship, the "Daini Xinxing Maru", which was transporting Japanese expatriates from Sakhalin Island. However, this ship was actually an armed transport ship belonging to the Japanese Navy, which could also be called a special naval gunboat.

At that time, the "Daini Xinxing Maru" was carrying 780 Japanese soldiers.

The Soviet submarine quickly launched a torpedo and successfully hit the "Second Xinxing Maru". However, just when the Soviet army thought that the ship had lost its resistance, in order to save torpedoes, the two Soviet submarines surfaced from the sea and were ready to use the submarine's own artillery to eliminate the transport ship, but they were suddenly hit by four 120mm caliber naval guns and some 25mm machine guns installed on the neighboring Second Xinxing Maru.

The last two Soviet submarines dived quickly, leaving only a large amount of heavy oil on the sea surface. The 2,700-ton No. 2 Xinxing Maru also struggled back to the port and was not completely scrapped until 1966. However, the Soviet L-19 submarine never appeared again.

That is, in the naval battle that was known as the last one to end World War II, the Japanese relied on an armed transport ship to kill an old Russian IX-6NC submarine.

It was the "Daini Xinxing Maru" that created this feat.

The armed transport ship in front of us is called "Daiichi Xinxing Maru". It might be the sister ship of the transport ship that sank the old Russian submarine.

But this ship was obviously not as lucky as its sister ship, so now it can only lie on the cold seabed.

This was the first time Yang Jing had seen a sunken transport ship on the seabed. Although he was somewhat curious, Yang Jing was not prepared to carefully investigate the transport ship. After all, the ship had sunk here for so many years, and it was estimated that it had been investigated by countless people.

But when Yang Jing was about to leave, he used his eye skill for some reason. As a result, Yang Jing actually found a faint green light in the ship.

This discovery made Yang Jing pause involuntarily, and he was not sure whether he was seeing things.
