George's father, Aaron Bruce, lives in a villa just south of Andersen Air Force Base.
Anderson Air Force Base covers a large area, and the Yigo area in northeastern Guam is all part of this strategic air base. At the easternmost end of this area, there is an independent villa area where senior officers of Anderson Strategic Air Force Base live, and the minimum rank to live here must be colonel.
It was as if Lieutenant Colonel Paul Adriano, who came to pick up Yang Jing and his group, was not qualified to live in this villa area.
Aaron Bruce, 57, was promoted to Air Force Brigadier General in 2009 and to Air Force Major General in 2014. He has been a major general for four years. In the United States, generals are absolutely professional soldiers. If they want to retire, there are only three ways.
The first is to retire due to disability, which is rare for senior US military officials, especially Air Force major generals. So, in Aaron Bruce's case, if he wants to retire, there are only the latter two options.
The second way to retire is voluntary retirement. The US military stipulates that officers below the rank of major general who have served for more than 20 years, including 10 years as officers, can voluntarily apply for retirement and apply for approval from the ministers of each service. Officers who have served for more than 30 years need to apply for personal approval from the president. Officers who have served for 40 years can apply for retirement without any approval.
However, almost no senior officers who can become generals are willing to retire in this way. Unless there are special circumstances that force them to retire, officers above the rank of brigadier general in the U.S. military will not easily give up the various powers they have fought for their entire lives.
As for the third type of retirement, it is compulsory retirement. The requirements for this type of retirement are more complicated, but one of them is mandatory, that is, colonels, brigadiers and major generals must retire from active service within 30 days after the fifth anniversary if they have not been promoted within 5 years from the date of obtaining their official military rank.
Just like George's father, he was promoted to brigadier general in 2009, and then because of the five-year time limit, he was promoted to major general in 2014. He has served as major general for more than four years, almost five full years. In other words, if he is not promoted before September 2019, he will face forced retirement.
These were introduced to Yang Jing by George in the car.
"It's okay. If nothing unexpected happens to my father, my father's name will appear on the list of major generals who will be promoted to lieutenant generals in June this year. This is almost 100% certain." When George said this, a hint of pride appeared on his face.
Air Force Lieutenant General is an absolute top military official. You should know that there are only 14 active four-star generals and 41 three-star lieutenant generals in the entire US Air Force.
And once promoted to three-star lieutenant general, some retirement requirements no longer apply. Yes, in the US military, only after becoming a three-star lieutenant general can you be considered a truly and thoroughly professional soldier - you can work for a lifetime.
Considering George's father's age, if he can really be promoted to three-star lieutenant general in June this year, he will not retire even if he turns 60 in three years. In the US military, retirement at the age of 60 only applies to major generals and officers below the rank of major general.
Now, as a major general of the Air Force who has served for four years, George's father's monthly salary can reach US dollars. Taking into account a series of allowances such as food allowance, personal allowance, family allowance, enemy fire allowance, etc., George's father can get almost US$22,000 a month!
That’s $264,000 a year!
This salary level is considered high income in the United States, and more than half of George's father's salary is a subsidy. This kind of military subsidy is not taxable in the United States.
The most important thing is that as a senior military officer, Aaron Bruce hardly needs to spend money on his daily food, clothing, housing and transportation, as the base has everything covered.
Just like the independent villa he lives in now, the two-and-a-half-story villa occupies a construction area of more than 600 square meters. Although this kind of villa is not considered a high-end villa, it is much better than the military barracks where the soldiers live.
And you don't need to pay to live in this kind of villa. In other words, George's father has the right to use the villa he lives in now, but he doesn't own it. But this is also very good, without ownership, you don't have to pay the damn real estate tax...
This villa is a supporting facility of the Anderson Strategic Air Force Base. No matter how powerful the U.S. Internal Revenue Service is, it would not dare to cause trouble at such a strategic air force base unless they want to force the officers and soldiers of this base to rebel.
So, it's actually a very beautiful thing that George's parents live here.
When they arrived at the villa, George's mother was already waiting at the gate. Although George has a younger sister and a younger brother, and he has been independent for a long time, in his parents' minds, he will always be a child. Parents all over the world are the same in this regard.
George's mother, Elizabeth Bruce, is a 55-year-old white woman who is well-maintained. In 2004, when George's father was transferred from Vandenberg Strategic Air Force Base in California to Anderson Strategic Air Force Base in Guam as an Air Force colonel, George's mother followed him. However, George was already an adult at that time and did not live with them. However, George's sister and brother, who were not yet adults, lived with them for several years. Now, they have left their parents and live alone. Now, only the old couple and a nanny live in this villa of small area.
