Chapter 732 Typhoon Defeats Volcano

The history of human beings, from the time they began to walk upright to the present day, is actually a history of struggle with nature.

The great ancestor of China even made a famous saying: "There is endless joy in fighting against the sky."

Floods, droughts, high temperatures, cold waves, floods, mountain torrents, forest and grassland fires... These natural disasters that occur all the time may be just an instinctive reaction caused by a slight discomfort in Mother Earth, but for humans, especially ancient humans, it almost means a catastrophe.

Even in modern times, humans are still unable to resist these natural disasters. Especially as humans’ destruction of Mother Earth becomes more and more serious, Mother Earth’s temper is becoming more and more violent. The increasingly large natural disasters are a punishment for humans.

Volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, earthquakes, typhoons (hurricanes) and tornadoes are classified by modern humans as the five most serious extreme natural disasters that cause the most harm to humans. Among them, earthquakes are undoubtedly the most destructive, followed by tsunamis and tornadoes. Volcanic eruptions are more destructive to the atmosphere and have the most lasting impact on the natural environment.

Many scientists say that once the super volcano in Yellowstone Park erupts, it will destroy the earth. In fact, this statement does not mean that the eruption of the Yellowstone volcano will directly destroy the earth. After all, no matter how big the Yellowstone volcano is, it is just a drop in the ocean for the entire earth. This statement mainly refers to the fact that once the Yellowstone volcano erupts, the volcanic ash will cause secondary disasters on the earth similar to nuclear winter. At that time, the volcanic ash in the atmosphere will block sunlight for years or even decades, which will cause the extinction of vegetation on the earth.

Without plants to provide oxygen and food, humans naturally cannot survive.

In fact, volcanic eruptions cannot directly cause much harm to humans.

Although tornadoes are very violent and destructive, the range of their impact is too small, so tornadoes rank the lowest among these five natural disasters.

There is no doubt about the power of tsunamis. The Indian Ocean tsunami caused nearly 300,000 casualties, which is a very terrifying number. But at the same time, tsunamis of this magnitude may not occur once every few years or even decades.

As for earthquakes, high-level earthquakes are even more terrifying. The Tangshan earthquake and the Wenchuan earthquake both caused horrific casualties and property losses. But by the same token, earthquakes that kill tens of thousands of people at a time only occur once every few years or even more than ten years.

But typhoons are different. There are dozens of them every year. Whether in the western Pacific or the western Atlantic, there are at least twenty typhoons or hurricanes every year. Among these typhoons or hurricanes, there are at least three or four strong typhoons landing every year.

Once such a strong typhoon makes landfall, the losses it causes are often calculated in units such as "billions of dollars", and if residents are not evacuated in time, the death toll will be terrifying.

Just like Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the strong wind caused losses of up to 200 billion US dollars and left nearly 2,000 people dead or missing.

Therefore, humans combined these natural disasters and finally determined that typhoons (hurricanes) are the natural disasters that cause the greatest harm to humans.

The main reason is that typhoons occur too often every year. Residents on the west coast of the ocean suffer terribly from typhoons (hurricanes) every year, but with the current technology of human beings, there is no way to deal with this terrible natural disaster. It is not that human beings can easily solve this extreme natural disaster by spreading powerful weather satellites in outer space like in the American blockbuster "Geomagnetic Storm".

But that is a movie after all, and humans can only fantasize about it now. If a super typhoon really comes, humans will still be helpless.

The Philippines didn't know which god it had offended this time. An undersea earthquake, a tsunami, a volcanic eruption and the subsequent super typhoon Hagupit all broke out at the same time. It is extremely rare for any one of these four natural disasters to occur in a certain place. As for the four breaking out at the same time, it is simply unheard of.

But unfortunately, the Philippines, an island country in the western Pacific, happened to encounter such a big thing.

Therefore, the attention of the whole world is attracted by this small island country.

But no matter how much they attract people, the outside world cannot get the specific situation of the disaster area. The ubiquitous volcanic ash prevents the entry of aircraft, and the violent Hagupit directly keeps all ships out. Even the high-resolution spy satellites in the sky cannot see the situation in the disaster area under the thick clouds and volcanic ash. People on the outside can only infer the disaster situation in the disaster area based on some fragmentary information.

In fact, the situation in the disaster area is really horrific!

The first undersea earthquake destroyed almost all the buildings in southeastern Luzon, Catanduanes, Leyte, Dinagat, Siargao, and the coastal areas of eastern Mindanao. The death toll from this earthquake alone was horrific.

The Philippines is not like its northern neighbor Japan. In Japan, this kind of undersea earthquake occurring one or two hundred kilometers away from the island will hardly cause any damage to buildings, but this is not the case in the Philippines.

After all, the Philippines is a poor country. Only a few cities in the country have solid buildings. The buildings in most cities are very simple and cannot withstand an earthquake of this magnitude!
