Moreover, compared with the blue and white porcelain of the Ming and Qing dynasties, Yuan blue and white porcelain appears to be more simple and elegant, especially the imported blue pigment used in large vessels. Combined with those large vessels, Yuan blue and white porcelain has a unique charm and flavor.
The reason why Yuan blue and white porcelain is famous is that at the Christie's auction in London on July 12, 2005, a Yuan blue and white porcelain Guiguzi Descending the Mountain jar was sold for 14 million pounds. With commission, the total price was 15.688 million pounds, equivalent to about 230 million yuan in national currency!
This price could buy two tons of gold at the time, and it also set the highest auction record for Asian art and became famous for a time, bringing the collection of blue and white porcelain to a new height.
After the Guiguzi Going Down the Mountain jar was sold at a sky-high price, Yuan blue and white porcelain became completely famous in China, and the Chinese people also became fully aware of the value of Yuan blue and white porcelain.
The large Yuan blue and white porcelain jar is undoubtedly a first-class national treasure of China, but unfortunately, of the nine large Yuan blue and white porcelain jars with figures that have appeared in the world, only one is in China.
Currently, there are only nine Yuan blue and white figure jars recognized worldwide. Among them, the Yuan blue and white Guiguzi Descending the Mountain jar and the Yuan blue and white Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage jar are in the hands of the British. The former is collected by the British antique dealer Eskenazi, while the latter is in the hands of the British Pegasus Foundation.
There are three large jars in the hands of Japanese people. The Yuan blue and white Baihua Pavilion large jar is now collected by the Manno Art Museum in Japan, the Yuan blue and white Zhaojun Going to the Frontier large jar is in the Idemitsu Museum of Art in Tokyo, Japan, and the Yuan blue and white Zhou Yafu Xiuliying large jar is in the hands of the Ataka Museum of Art in Japan.
Of the remaining four large jars, the Yuan Dynasty blue and white West Chamber incense burning jar is in the collection of a private collector in Southeast Asia; the Yuan Dynasty blue and white Jinxiang Pavilion jar is in the collection of Mr. Wang Dinggan, a collector from Taiwan Island; and the Yuan Dynasty blue and white Yuchi Gong Riding Alone to Save the Lord jar is in the hands of the Boston Museum.
It is worth mentioning that there are currently two Yuan blue and white porcelain jars depicting Yuchi Gong riding alone to save his lord discovered in the world. The first one is in Boston and the second one is in China. This is also the only Yuan blue and white porcelain jar with a figure in China.
This large jar was unearthed in 1980 at "Si Guan Ling" in Heng County, Guangxi Province. However, after this rare treasure was unearthed, it was abandoned in a corner for seven years. It was not until 1987 that an agronomist accidentally discovered this treasure and took it home to grow flowers and store seeds. It was not until 1989 that cultural relics experts confirmed the national treasure status of this large jar. Since then, China has had its own Yuan blue and white porcelain figure jar.
If there had not been this Yuan blue and white porcelain jar of Yuchi Gong riding alone to save his lord unearthed in Guangxi Province, there would not be a single Yuan blue and white porcelain jar with a figure in it in China, which would absolutely be a tragedy.
But now it is different. As soon as Yang Jing saw this big jar, he knew that it was also a real treasure with a big door. Moreover, this treasure is different from the eight big jars with figures that appeared before, because the pattern of this big jar is different from the eight known big jars with figures of Yuan blue and white porcelain. The pattern of this big jar is actually a brand new figure pattern.
Yang Jing once saw a bottle with a similar pattern in the Jinling Museum. This bottle was a Yuan Dynasty blue and white plum vase. It is a first-class national treasure of China, the treasure of the Nanjing Museum, and one of the three wonders of Chinese porcelain: the "Yuan Dynasty Blue and White Plum Vase with Xiao He Chasing Han Xin Under the Moon"!
There are only three blue and white Yuan Dynasty plum vases with the pattern of Xiao He chasing Han Xin under the moon in the world. One is in the collection of the National Museum of China, one is in the hands of an overseas collector, and the last one was sold at an auction in 2011 for a whopping price of HK$840 million.
The pattern of this large Yuan blue and white porcelain jar is very similar to the pattern on the plum vase with the picture of Xiao He chasing Han Xin under the moon in the Nanjing Museum. In other words, this large jar should be called "Yuan blue and white porcelain large jar with Xiao He chasing Han Xin under the moon"!
This large Yuan blue and white porcelain figure jar with this pattern has never been seen in the world. In other words, if this jar were taken out, it would be the tenth large Yuan blue and white porcelain figure jar in the world, and also the ninth pattern among large Yuan blue and white porcelain figure jars!
This is definitely a national treasure among Chinese porcelains, and is a national treasure of China that can be compared with the "Yuan Blue and White Porcelain Yuchi Gong Riding Alone to Save the Lord" jar treasured in the Boston Museum!
