Chapter 19

Chapter 19

Autumn goes and spring comes.

Let me first report to you on my and my brother's grades at the end of last semester. We both did quite well, and Su Yu only scored about fifty points higher than me.

I celebrated my birthday during winter break. The night before, I partied like crazy with a bunch of classmates. Su Yu had to drag me home by the ear.

Just kidding. When my brother saw us, he gave me a lot of face. As always, my friends first exclaimed about our names. Then Su Yu saw them off one by one before pulling me along.

"Mom cooked a whole table of dishes. I thought it was your 18th birthday."

Indeed, I could smell the aroma of garlic ribs even downstairs.

"Come in, come in! It must be cold outside. Come to my room and warm up." Mom knew it was my brother returning home when she heard the door open.

After resting for a while, Mom called us to wash our hands and eat. She and Dad sat there with unusually serious expressions, as if they were about to announce something important.

Could there be anything more serious than the fact that I'm not their biological child? It's not like I don't know that.

"Second Brother Su, how old are you today?"

My husband, Mr. Su, asked me.

"Ten...fifteen?"

"Why!"

The old man held up a finger to interrupt me, closed his eyes, and pouted to indicate that it wasn't true.

Then Mom took out the candle that came with the cake and lit a "1".

Then, she glanced mysteriously at everyone at the table and pulled a "6" out of her bag.

"I'm sixteen?"

"He's sixteen?"

The two elders gave the responses I had in mind, but they said something that really got Su Yu and me thinking.

—Su Yu is seventeen years old this year.

?

This incident shocked us even more than if I had actually hugged him on the street.

Although I didn't quite understand after my parents explained it to me, it was clear that my brother had accepted the fact that he had returned to the rainy season of his seventeenth year.

Okay, he can figure it out.

Chewing on the soft cake, I suddenly realized that the age difference between me and Su Yu was only one year?!

Su Yu's face didn't change much, except that a drop of saliva was about to drip from the corner of her mouth as she gnawed on the bone.

I wiped him with a tissue.

"Wow, you've grown two years older and it's really different now, you can even take care of people."

"Mom..." Su Yu's words were indistinct.

"This year is practically the same age. From now on, brothers, you shouldn't distinguish between each other anymore. Taking care of each other is the right thing to do."

After finishing a can of beer, the big boss, seeing that we had all eaten our fill, gave his usual post-meal remarks.

This time was different from the past. At least I really listened to what he said. As for Su Yu, he must be used to the identity of "brother".

Then I can quickly adapt to the identity of "older brother", as long as Su Yu doesn't beat me.

During that time, I also received a gift from Xiaoxing. I never thought he would know my birthday. When I asked him, he said I had set it in my profile.

I saw an Adidas jacket in a video that Qiu Jiajia forwarded to me; her favorite idol wears this kind of jacket.

Xiao Xing said that he asked his sister to bring it back when she went to Korea to see a concert.

Okay, but speaking of travel, I really want to go on a trip with my brother.

Later, our whole family went shopping again and each of us bought a new outfit. When we got home, the chill gradually dissipated with our teasing and conversation, and we fell asleep. When we opened our eyes again, it was springtime.

"Su Yu... could you get me some tissues?"

In the cafeteria, Su Yu took out two neatly folded pieces of paper from her pocket and gave them to me, or rather, "stuffed" them into my hand.

Hehe, I tried to call him "brother" less often after that day, and now I dare to call him by his full name in a submissive manner.

We were together every day because his biology major required students to move between classes, and it just so happened that his major didn't overlap with Qiu Jiajia's political science major. So, by a stroke of luck, he always sat next to me.

Qiu Jiajia was happy to oblige. He knew Su Yu was a reliable person, and after spending time with him, his approval rating for my brother was 100%. While others would bring a stool to our class, he didn't need one, and Qiu Jiajia would even make sure it was clean.

"Brother, I feel like you're not hanging out with Chen Tianmo anymore."

I tilted my head and whispered to my brother.

"Are you writing your 'Brother's Observation Diary' again?"

"What……?"

"Okay, Su Dayu, come and see why the answer to this question is A."

Yes, Su Yu is still a year older than me, but after a heated discussion, the biology teacher and classmates decided to call me Su Dayu. So what about my brother?

Call him Su Yu...

I stood up, holding books in both hands, not knowing what I was doing.

"You'll be a senior in high school next year, and you're still whispering to each other in class. Sit down."

"Brother, what did you just say?"

"..."

I can't say that my relationship with Su Yu was particularly good. Although he made me go through an unforgettable winter, I really didn't dare to ask for anything more.

At the same time, I'm also curious: after experiencing an intimate relationship, can people really face each other with a normal mindset? Why does Su Yu seem like nothing happened?

However, seeing his calm demeanor, I also felt a strange sense of relief.

But I know he will never forget or let bygones be bygones. At least when it comes to me, he cares about everything.

As the weather got warmer, I played basketball with my friends to my heart's content the day I put on short sleeves, and almost broke my arm in the process.

I slumped to the ground in a daze, my vision blurring. Just as tears welled up in my eyes, I cried out "Brother!" from my throat with heart-wrenching sobs.

Perhaps God didn't want me to lose face, so Su Yu, who had just bought dinner, happened to pass by me.

Perhaps it was an unconscious reaction when he heard the word "brother," or perhaps it's because after all these years, there's still a thin red thread of blood connecting us.

Before I could even react, a steamed bun was stuffed into my mouth.

I took two bites; it was Orleans chicken flavored.

Through teary eyes, I recognized the person kneeling in front of me as Su Yu. I thought he had used Flash.

"Get up quickly, did you fall?"

"Ouch..." I cried out again as soon as he touched my arm, with the steamed bun still in my mouth.

The chain reaction was that the steamed bun fell.

I looked at Baozi, Baozi looked at me, and Su Yu looked at both of us.

He took out another piece of paper, wrapped the bun up, and then draped my other arm over his shoulder. After saying goodbye to my brothers, he helped me to the infirmary.

Logically, at this point, there should only be Su Yu and me in the infirmary. He would then apply iodine to disinfect my wound, and then we might do this or that.

I've said before that my life isn't that dramatic, except for being reborn into the Su family.

The nurse at the clinic treated the scrape on my arm, and as I walked out, we heard the sound of students reading aloud.

Su Yu and I turned to look at each other and went back to the dormitory.

"Ah...it's so comfortable in bed." I lay there lazily.

"Does it still hurt?"

"It doesn't hurt anymore."

Su Yu sat on my bed, on the thin mattress he had changed for me. The thicker one was on his bed. My brother is the princess and the pea, and I am an impenetrable fortress.

He lay down and turned his head to the side. I noticed he was looking at me, so I looked back at him.

He turned around and knelt on top of me. The feeling was all too familiar to me. As everyone expected, we kissed again.

I leaned against the wall and hugged him. The blankets on the next bed were folded up like they were about to explode, and there were two pillows on them. I've complained about him countless times, but this is the first time I've thanked this guy.

I put my arms around his waist, and he cupped my face in his hands.

Still wanting more, we parted amidst heavy breathing. He looked down at the unbroken silver thread and touched my lips with his finger.

When I got back to the classroom, they had already started their evening self-study session. Tonight, the old history teacher was supervising the class, so I had nothing to do.

As I walked in, amidst the sounds of writing and turning pages, a few people did indeed look up. Luckily, we don't check the rate of people looking down, or we would have been in big trouble.

It was obvious they were concerned about my injuries, but I also knew how these people could possibly have a conscience.

After I got through the first two periods on my own, they jostle and pushed me outside when class ended. They grabbed my arm, looked me over from left to right to make sure I was okay, and then cheekily imitated how I called out to Su Yu.

Although the performance contained exaggerated elements, I was still frightened by my own reaction at the time.

This is just like a little kid who wets their pants and doesn't know what to do!

"Hey, why is your face so red!"

Someone with sharp eyes noticed that Su Yu had been blocked outside by the burly men. Hearing this question, he curiously came over and asked me what was wrong.

I'm truly impressed.

"The little black cat in the dormitory suddenly jumped out and startled me."

"Hahaha, coward..."

There was more playful noise. Anyway, single-celled organisms are easy to fool. Su Yu, on the other hand, was looking at me with her cheeks puffed out.

Then he turned around and went back to the classroom.

Why do I still feel a little flutter in my heart?

In short, the days when I could laugh freely were coming to an end as the countdown to the end of the semester on the blackboard was torn off one by one. When the sun was at its hottest, my good days would be over.

Why are they doing this kind of thing to us right at the start of the school year? A mobilization meeting for senior high school students.

It was really exciting. The air conditioning in the Great Hall of the People made me feel like a dog in the heat, but the temperature of my brother's palms made up for it.

I breathed on his hand to warm it, then covered my mouth with my own to keep the warmth from escaping.

The person on stage was speaking passionately, while those around him were either sleeping or reading... wait, why is someone playing with a watch?

Everyone has their own things to do, including me and Su Yu.

When I returned to the classroom, I still lingered on the warmth of Su Yu's hand.

I couldn't tell from Qiu Jiajia's eyes whether she was looking at something or at me.

Our homeroom teacher held an extra meeting with us and solemnly pointed out that we were not allowed to date at this stage, and that any couples we saw should be caught together.

They can't catch me and Su Yu this time...

With that thought, my heart skipped a beat. Why did I feel this way? My brother and I, no, Su Yu and I, how could we possibly be together?

This is making me uncomfortable. What are we doing now? Two people comforting each other? But I don't want that. I want an identity.

I dared not tell anyone about this private and immoral thought, but Qiu Jiajia still noticed it.

"Economic independence".

That day, she buried herself under her desk and finished reading a novel, then told me this while crying her eyes out.

Economic independence?

"What does this mean?" Qiu Jiajia shook her head and told me that I would understand when I grew up.

Those were the most painful days, those were the sweetest days.

I deeply felt the pressure that senior year of high school brought us; it was truly suffocating.

Every morning when I wake up, it feels like I'm being choked by the pale moonlight; only Su Yu's icy palms can warm my heart.

By the time I truly realized what I was about to face, Su Yu had already been carrying it on his back for a long time, and even when his knees were covered in blood, he never told me a single word.
