Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Spring has passed and autumn has arrived; the sweltering heat has long been dispelled by the autumn winds.

The long-sleeved school uniform was ugly, with its blue and red color scheme. Only a few boys and girls in our class could pull it off, including me.

However, I don't like wearing it. Maybe I have too much internal heat. Some girls are already wearing small blankets to cover their legs, but I'm still running around in a short-sleeved shirt.

Does Su Yu need a blanket?

This was the most emotionally intelligent thing I've ever done. The next day, I asked a classmate who had taken leave to go home to buy me a small blanket at the mall. I made sure to ask them for a gift bag so I could bring it to my brother in a pretty way.

We waited and waited, and finally the young master returned home. As expected, the young master was reliable; the pale yellow goose down blanket was trimmed with white and had only small embellishments.

I like bright, colorful patterns, but my brother might not.

I folded the blanket and wrapped it up again. The next day I got up very early. Since it gets light later in autumn than in summer, I couldn't make too much noise getting up early, so I could only move around very quietly.

With a thud, I hit my head.

It really hurts...

Those dead pigs didn't wake up, and neither did my brother.

Thank goodness.

I've never seen such a plentiful selection of food in a cafeteria. I bought a lot, sharing the dishes my brothers don't usually eat. There were also some new items; I see the girls eating them every morning, so I bought a few for my brother to try too.

Eating steamed buns and carrying a box while climbing stairs is quite a workout.

Sweating profusely, I went to my brother's classroom first, turned on half the light, laid a piece of paper on the table, and then put the breakfast on it.

I put the box in different places, but it didn't feel right. I didn't want it to be too conspicuous, and I didn't want my brother to see it.

Finally, I simply put my brother's backpack on the bench and placed it in front of the box to block it.

I returned like a victorious warrior.

Holy crap!

When the light came on, it almost gave me a heart attack.

Su Yu sat in my seat like a "ghost," like the final boss of a game waiting for my challenge.

"What's going on so early in the morning?" Su Yu sat up straight and pushed up the temple of his glasses with his middle finger. Although I couldn't see his eyes clearly, I thought they must be very sharp.

"study."

This statement is just as believable as my mother saying she doesn't regret getting married.

Su Yu got up and circled around me.

"Hands out."

I took my hand out of my pocket and there was a bag of breakfast inside, already greasy.

Su looked at the oil-soaked bag, then at me.

They're gone.

The girl who usually arrives earliest in the class came in right after me and thought I was being punished, staring at me like I was an idiot.

Dizziness.

As more and more people arrived, the class representative organized everyone to stand up and read aloud. Having just finished a heavy meal of refined carbohydrates, I made an excuse to go do my cleaning duty and get some fresh air.

And by the way...

Ignoring my classmates' well-intentioned reminders, I walked in the opposite direction with a broom and dustpan, and happened to pass by my brother's classroom.

Everyone in their class stood up too. Su Yu's seat was blocked, and I didn't see the blanket I gave her at first glance. Wait, how did it end up on the back of someone else's bench?

I'm a bit confused. What does this mean? My brother didn't recognize that it was a gift from me? How could that be? He's as cunning as a fox.

There wasn't much trash in the sanitation area, so I hid in the toilet and enjoyed a bit of relaxation.

Seeing that it was almost time, I grabbed a broom and headed back to class. I stubbed out my cigarette, wrapped it in paper, stuffed it into my snack bag, and intended to just throw it away in a public trash can.

I just got back to the classroom and saw two little girls carrying a trash can that looked like a bomb, about to be emptied. The top of the wobbly trash can looked like the melting cream on top of a parfait. Who decided to send them to empty it?

My God, if we walked down this path, a bunch of pigs would surely fall down halfway. They're such a bunch of pigs, so wasteful... I'm one of those pigs too.

I quickly called Ke Wen to go take out the trash together. Anyway, this guy is having a concert during his morning reading, so it won't interfere with anything.

I had just tapped on the window when someone patted my shoulder. I thought it was my homeroom teacher, so I didn't dare turn around.

"Turn around, you idiot." A flick came off my forehead. It was my dear brother. I put the trash can down, and a few trash cans accidentally fell out.

Then I saw Su Yu squat down, pinch the edge with her hand, and throw it into her trash bag.

"You're bringing me warmth this early in the morning?" Su Yu carried her own trash bag in one hand and helped me carry the other side of the trash can with the other.

I chuckled shyly, scratched my head, and acted like an honest man trying to make his wife smile.

...This description doesn't feel good for either my brother or me.

"Do you like it? I asked a classmate who was on leave to bring it to me."

"I love it. How could I not love something Yu Yu gave me?"

"Then how did you..."

Before I could finish speaking, I swallowed the words back.

My brother shook the garbage bag in his hand, and I realized that the bag was only half full and could still be used for another day or two.

"How could I not notice such a big thing dangling around at the classroom door?"

I shrugged, looking just like a big bear.

"I'm making room. I didn't throw away that box; I'm keeping it to store things. The blanket is just temporarily hanging on someone's bench because I'm afraid it will get dirty."

I'm happy that my feelings were appreciated.

Su Yu helped me empty the small bombs from the bomb, then tossed aside the bag in her hand, put her arm around my shoulder, and walked away.

"Thank you for your thoughtfulness, little one."

Who's the little guy...

Something's not right; the weather's been getting warmer lately. I was itching to get out of bed and sneak a peek at my brother; he was wearing a coat, perfectly fine.

Su Yu was sleeping, her head turned to the side facing the window, her hands tucked into her sleeves, and her glasses held between her exposed index finger and thumb.

Her slender, fair hands looked even whiter and more beautiful against this unsightly bright red.

"Pervert..."

Qiu Jiajia was walking to the restroom with her friend when she passed by me and said something disdainful.

That would be really disgusting.

However, it's my older brother, and it's only natural for a younger brother to like his older brother.

After spending my first autumn at school, we were about to be divided into different classes. After countless analyses by the teachers, I decided that I would choose pure science.

I have a feeling that Su Yu will choose Chunwen, so we'll... go our separate ways. I was hoping that if we were in different classes, we could be together.

"I chose Shi Zhengsheng, and I'll probably be attending your class."

With the flexible class scheduling system, this is the first time I've praised this school that I've criticized hundreds of times. It means that I can meet my brother and attend the same biology class every time!

Qiu Jiajia chose art, and she will be going to the arts and sports department next semester. If I secretly arrange for her to sit next to the podium, then my brother can sit in the first row with no one in the class every time he comes to class next semester!

The plan is working. Currently, there are no "left and right protectors" in the class. I don't know who will be the homeroom teacher next semester. I hope it will be someone easy to talk to and cheerful.

snow.

When the first snowflake landed on my brother's head, we were taking a walk on the playground. I had a roasted sweet potato in my hand that he had bought for me, and it was a little hot.

He opened his arms, slowly raised them above his head, felt the coolness, and turned around with a joyful expression, showing me his hands.

"It's snowing! It's snowing! Look!"

The warmth of his palm had already melted the snowflakes. We didn't use an umbrella, and snowflakes fell on his head. His wind-blown hair had already become a home for the pure white and unique snowflakes.

Su Yu was very happy, jumping and skipping as she watched the first snow.

Besides us, there were a few other people on the playground who also noticed the change in the sky. We're always like this; living in these changes is our only joy.

Since there's no need to wear school uniforms in winter, Su Yu only wore a light brown duffle coat and a white turtleneck sweater covering her chin.

I walked over and looked into his bright, sparkling eyes.

They flipped his sweater up to cover his entire face, then pulled down the back of his hood, leaving only his eyes still looking at the world.

"Su Yu! Are you crazy?!"

I ignored him, took off the scarf I was wearing to appease my mother, and tied it around his neck.

He's like a sesame oil bottle in a supermarket.

Su Yu was dressed in thick layers, and her arms were flailing around as if trying to punish me.

I ran, he chased. When he couldn't catch me, I stopped running.

Su Yu's face was flushed, not the flush from when she had a fever, but like the makeup the girls in her class did for a little doll. A tiny red tip on her nose and two rosy blushes on her cheeks—she looked very pretty.

"Brother, we want to watch snow for the rest of our lives."

I imitated the melancholic male god on the internet, looked up at the sky at a 45-degree angle, then turned around and looked at my brother with deep affection.

They've already crawled under someone else's umbrella...

That works too, at least I won't get cold.

Su Yu, hidden under her oversized coat, stood at a distance with her arms outstretched and shouted loudly for me. Once again, I imagined myself as the male lead in an idol drama, walking through the smoke towards the female lead.

But the radio was playing the evening news.

Su Yu filled two bowls of rice and complained that I walked so slowly.

The least romantic episode.

The snow had been falling for several days, and the school, covered in snow, had a unique charm. Savvy "businessmen" started selling Polaroid cameras, charging 5 yuan per shot, with no limit on the number of people.

It was right before the holidays, and the atmosphere in the class was more focused on socializing than studying. My brother even got some makeup done because a few people were joining in the fun.

When the first evening self-study session ended, I was so shocked by my brother's rosy lips and white teeth that I couldn't speak. I just stared at him, as if I wanted to stare a hole through his face.

Su Yu avoided looking at me, and was about to reach out her thumb to wipe away the faint red mark on her lips when I grabbed her hand.

"It's...it's...it's so beautiful, brother."

"Beautiful" is used to describe girls, and "handsome" is used to fool boys. My brother is such a stunning guy that, being someone who didn't even graduate from high school, all I can think of is "good-looking."

Su Yu heard this and smiled faintly, looking down.

What a coincidence! Someone came up to us and asked if we wanted to take a Polaroid photo.

He readily agreed, saying he'd take two.

The first picture shows us at the classroom door, with a noisy crowd in the background, my brother and I standing shoulder to shoulder.

In the second picture, we are leaning against the tiles in the corridor. Outside, it's snowing heavily. Su Yu is a little in front of me and makes a peace sign.

The anticipation of the photographic paper developing was both exciting and nerve-wracking. I watched as Su Yu's fingertips, which were turning a beautiful pink as she held the paper, warmed my heart.

"It's here! It's here!" Before anyone knew it, three or four people had gathered around, looking at the baby as if it were a newborn just out of the delivery room.

My brother squeezed out, held up two photos in front of me, and then showed his face from behind the photos, his lips curving into a smile. Only then did I notice that my brother had two very shallow dimples.

Class was about to start, and the number of people in the corridor dwindled until we were left with only each other.

The classroom was still noisy, and I couldn't hear what they were talking about. No one looked at us. On one side was a classroom as bright as day, and on the other side was snow falling incessantly.

Is this youth? I suddenly realized that at this moment, all the classrooms in the school are lit up, and they are all living their high school lives.

And here I am, with my family and my…family.

This is amazing.

"You've grown so tall." Su Yu paused for a moment, then looked down at the Polaroid camera and gently swept her hand over it.

That winter, the snow fell heavily.
