Chapter 110 Another Trip to the Black Market
Three days later, the results came out. Jinran ranked eighth in the class, and Dahong ranked fifth. These were pretty good results.
Wang Jie was in the twenties, while Xu Pandi was at the very bottom.
Da Hong laughed and teased her, "You really have talent, so strong! It's like a knife slapping your butt, it's an eye-opener."
Then, Xu Pandi ran out crying. Wang Jie looked at Da Hong disapprovingly and complained, "Wang Da Hong, you really went too far this time."
But Wang Jie showed no intention of pursuing him.
The commotion drew everyone in the class to come and see what was going on.
Seeing this, Wang Jie seemed to have suffered a great injustice and said softly, "Pan Di doesn't have any bad intentions. She has it tough too. Her family isn't well-off, but she still studies hard. Why can't you all be more understanding of her?"
We're all classmates, so we should help each other. We should help classmates who are struggling academically improve their grades; that's what we should do. Besides, good grades don't represent everything.
After Wang Jie finished speaking, she glanced around at the admiring looks she was receiving, and a smug look flashed in her eyes.
Jinran hates this kind of attitude: "I'm weak, so I'm right. If you don't help me, you're morally corrupt."
"Oh ho, so you're standing up for your friend? How come all this time, all I've heard you doing is showing off, and I haven't seen you go out and check on your brother Pan?"
Da Hong added insult to injury: "You should focus on improving your grades first, instead of wasting your time on useless things. It's really annoying."
Wang Jie was so uncomfortable by what she was being told that she didn't know whether she should go out and check on Xu Pandi.
This little incident was quickly laughed off by Da Hong and Jin Ran.
When Jinran got home that evening, she told her brothers about what had happened that day, asking them, "What are your thoughts?"
Shen Cong, with a strong survival instinct, replied, "These two female students don't look like good people. They can't mess with my sister."
Shen Ming then said to Hu Chaochao, "Nini, how about we go and put sacks on them?"
Jinran then launched into a long and detailed discussion about this matter, launching into several lessons on topics such as Machiavellianism and how to identify a manipulative woman.
Shen Cong and Shen Ming couldn't understand, but they were greatly shocked.
Father Shen opened his eyes and said uncertainly, "Aren't you overthinking it?"
Wang Cuifen chimed in, "Women's affairs are darker than you think. Like last time, when Chen Mei borrowed money from you to complain, if I hadn't found out, would you have helped her?"
Jinran exclaimed, "!!!" She hadn't expected to hurt innocent people as well.
"Mother, tell me more. I'm not really curious, I just want to hear it."
"This little darling is no good!" said the father.
Wang Cuifen lectured for half an hour, and Jinran listened with great interest for the same amount of time. In the end, the matter was resolved by Shen's father and the two brothers, Shen Cong and Shen Ming, cleaning up the dishes.
Shen Cong and Shen Ming said, "Dad, we brothers have been implicated because of you. We are both good children, but it is your stain that has forced us to work with you."
The father lamented, "My children are all my debts!"
High school life unfolded in this way, with only occasional teasing of Xu Pandi and exposing the hidden meanings in Wang Jie's words.
All that was left was studying. Jinran and Dahong would improve in every exam, and the teacher would praise them by name.
Jinran proudly went home to show off, and Shen Cong and Shen Ming both said that they deserved half of the credit for the medal.
Alright! Let's bring on the challenges!
The two brothers had to do practice tests with Jinran every day. Jinran's reason was: "If you don't do them, you won't be able to keep up with the pace. How can you explain the questions to me? Anyway, we're just idling around. It's time to go to great lengths for your sister."
And so Jinran continued to teach her brothers high school material.
High school holidays are few, and Da Hong sometimes complains to Jin Ran, "I miss home. I've never been away from home for so long."
Before Jinran could even offer some comfort, Da Hong turned around and excitedly gossiped with others.
Jinran hesitated, unsure whether to utter or swallow these words of comfort. That was the question.
Jinran looked at the date and realized that it had been a long time since she had contacted Old Man Mo. Indeed, it was not very convenient to move around once she was in the county.
It just so happened that school was on holiday that day. To accommodate students who lived far away, the school kindly let them go home early. Da Hong couldn't wait to go home, while Jin Ran strolled home.
Before her parents got off work, Jinran went out again, wandering through several alleys, changing her clothes, and heading to the black market to find Old Man Mo.
As soon as Old Mo saw Jinran, he said warmly, "Young brother, it's been so long since we last met! I've accumulated a lot of good stuff. If you hadn't come soon, I wouldn't have been able to keep it all."
Jinran smiled and said, "Sure, brother, let's do a big deal this time. If you can take all the goods I have, you can have them all."
The two exchanged insincere compliments, and finally decided on the same place and time, saying they would meet there.
Jinran then left.
Looks like I'll be staying up late tonight.
