Chapter 19 Are You My Teammate? (2)
There were basically no pedestrians on the road, and even fewer vehicles. Instead, there were groups of zombies wandering around stiffly. The sound of driving vehicles disturbed their peace, and they were chased ferociously for a while until the noise was completely out of range. Then they wandered around unconsciously again, waiting for the next target to approach.
The nearest road was blocked by collapsed houses, and they had to avoid zombie gathering places such as hospitals and schools. The two of them made a detour, and with the man leading the way, they arrived at the mall safely.
Lu Weiyi parked the car on the side of the road where there would not be any traffic jam, got out of the car sloppily, kicked a zombie with one foot and chopped at another with a knife, then turned around and chopped off half of the head of another zombie that approached him again.
He was extremely lucky as both zombies had bead cores. He quickly collected them and looked in the direction of the mall.
One side of the mall collapsed after the earthquake, and all sorts of stuff fell down, blocking the door. If he had a companion, Lu Weiyi could spend time looking for another way, but he was alone at the moment... He was a little hesitant and wanted to find another mall that was easier to enter.
"Little brother, follow me," the man called him.
Seeing that he was about to turn, Lu Weiyi got in the car and followed him.
He parked the car beside the gate and got out of the car holding a steel rod in his hand. There were black blood stains on the steel rod, which must have been caused by encountering zombies. He walked carefully towards the underground parking lot next to it and lowered his voice, "The parking lot of this mall is underground. There are stairs that lead directly into the mall."
Lu Weiyi frowned and didn't want to join him.
The man obviously misunderstood and thought that the boy was afraid that he would steal his things, so he comforted him, "The supermarket inside is very big, it's impossible for the two of us to clean it out. I'll go get some food and then go find someone."
Lu Weiyi nodded, turned on the flashlight on his cell phone and shone it inside. There was a car parked sideways near the entrance of the dark parking lot, with only enough space on either side for a person to enter sideways. It was obvious that someone had been here before.
"It might have been set up when the government took control of the mall," the man said in a low voice, "My name is Gu Qingyue, I'm a doctor, what's your name, little brother?"
The silent and dark space made people uneasy. Gu Qingyue was a surgeon who had been gentle for half his life. He had only a limited number of fights, not to mention the possibility of killing monsters. He trembled with one hand and spoke to relieve his tension.
"Lu Weiyi...just graduated from university", that should be it, Lu Weiyi recalled it seriously.
"Are you from here? Why are you out alone? Where are your family members?"
"I'm from Qingyuan, come here to play," Lu Weiyi said, waving his phone towards the staircase door pointed to by the safety sign, and asked, "Do you want to go in from here?"
"This is the way upstairs. The supermarket is still in front."
"Let's go upstairs and get a headlight first." There was no lighting in the underground supermarket, and it was pitch black everywhere. Going in rashly would be like seeking death.
When Gu Qingyue heard his words, he remembered that there was a lamp shop on the fifth floor, nodded, and entered the staircase door first. Lu Weiyi followed behind and locked the door at the same time. This was to prevent people with bad intentions from blocking them from behind, and also to prevent zombies from accidentally entering.
Thanks to the earthquake, there were no staff working in the malls. Now that the zombies have broken out, these malls and workplaces are basically empty. Instead, the places where the zombies gather the most are residents' homes, or hospitals, clinics and other institutions where they are sent to first.
