Chapter 159 Crossing the River Together

Following Qi Yunxiao to the back mountain, where they saw the workshop, Shen Qingyu and Zhao Yuzhu realized just how much this man cared about Shen Qingyu's affairs without their knowledge.

The chili pepper workshop was built to resemble the sweet potato starch workshop, with the ground paved entirely with bricks to ensure there was no mud.

Several large stoves were lined up in a row, and large pots were already set up, ready to be used to make chili sauce at any time.

Qi Yunxiao explained his thoughts when he asked someone to repair the workshop.

“I didn’t ask them to seal the wall completely, because I was worried that the stove would get wet when it rained heavily, so I asked them to extend the eaves outwards quite a bit.”

This helps to prevent rainwater from drifting inside during storms.

"I had them make a few large wooden shelves here, which will make it more convenient to put cutting boards and basins later."

"They brought water over here. Should we wash the chili peppers first?"

"And this house is still empty. Do you think it can be used as a warehouse or something else? It can be adjusted at any time."

"..."

It was only at this moment that Shen Qingyu truly realized that Qi Yunxiao was genuinely considering her feelings.

Her heart softened, and she looked at Qi Yunxiao with gentle eyes: "Thank you."

Qi Yunxiao grinned: "You are my wife, the mother of my children, so of course I have to take care of you."

Looking at the neat and orderly workshop, Shen Qingyu asked them to prepare a place for drying chili peppers, just as she had envisioned.

There are also some minor changes.

Zhao Yuzhu, from her perspective, offered some very practical suggestions.

Having settled that, Shen Qingyu looked at Qi Yunxiao: "We need to find a place that makes pottery jars, to have people make pottery and porcelain jars for storing chili peppers."

Qi Yunxiao nodded: "There's a town upstream of Hengshui that makes ceramics. Shall we go take a look?"

They had already found out.

Shen Qingyu nodded and looked at Zhao Yuzhu: "Mother, shall we go and take a look together?"

Zhao Yuzhu took a step back: "I'm impatient to take the boat, you guys go ahead."

Shen Qingyu knew perfectly well that her mother was creating an opportunity for herself and Qi Yunxiao to be alone together!

Her heart softened slightly: "Okay."

When Da Bao and Xiao Bao learned that their parents were going out together, they were sitting at the large table and chairs in the study, flipping through books.

The two children waved without turning their heads, saying, "Goodbye, Mom and Dad."

They haven't been working at the sweet potato flour workshop for the past two days; they've been studying with Xue Juzheng instead.

The sweet potato flour workshop is now run by two children, Stone and Wood, who keep the accounts there.

Because they were already skilled, the two children, despite their young age, were quite adept at it.

Since Xue Juzheng arrived, Wenche has stopped teaching and spends his days reading Buddhist scriptures, and his demeanor has become increasingly otherworldly.

Wen Jin became increasingly composed, studying with Da Bao and Xiao Bao alongside Xue Juzheng.

Xue Juzheng didn't hold them back. He simply gave them a question and told them to find the answer in the books in his study.

Wen Jin had experienced this teaching method before, and although he was also impatient to listen back then, hearing such a request now brought back memories of those past events.

Wen Jin took the lead: "Let's go. Today, the Master raised questions about agriculture and sericulture. Let's go to the books over there to find the answers."

So the three children ran to the bookshelf next to the farmer and sericulture plant to look for books.

Da Bao, drawing on his own experience, said, "This bookshelf has three shelves, and the three of us will each be responsible for one shelf."

"good……"

The three children divided the work, each responsible for a layer of books, quietly flipping through them to find clues. The big yellow dog sat under the desk, listlessly dozing off.

Relieved, Shen Qingyu and Qi Yunxiao went to town together.

Upon learning that Shen Qingyu's chili pepper workshop was about to open, Qi Han was both surprised and delighted: "I knew Qingyu's ability to make money was unparalleled..."

Just then, a ship coming down from upstream was unloading cargo. Qi Han personally escorted Shen Qingyu and Qi Yunxiao to the dock and asked the boat captain to arrange a good room on the top floor before he felt at ease.

The boat is going upstream against the current, which takes much longer than going downstream.

Seeing that they still had some goods to unload, Shen Qingyu went to her own small shop at the dock.

Shen Dashou was guarding the shop when he saw Shen Qingyu and Qi Yunxiao arrive, and he was both surprised and delighted.

"Qingyu! Tietou! You're here!"

Shen Qingyu greeted him with a smile and inquired about business.

Shen Dashou explained cheerfully, "Business is naturally good. However, this year's harvest is not good, so overall, it has been affected to some extent."

There are at least fewer people running businesses than in previous years.

Sales of glutinous rice are not much different from usual, and may even have increased slightly.

However, the most expensive dried meat, braised sausage heads, and braised pig ears don't sell as well as ordinary braised pig head meat.

People are now more focused on the taste, no longer caring only about the flavor and ignoring the price as they used to.

They brought some braised meat and went to the Pear Blossom Tavern to order a jar of wine. The two of them boarded the boat together.

This cargo ship has two decks; the lower deck is for loading cargo, and the ship's crew also live there.

The best room on the top floor was reserved for the boat captain. The owner said that these were important guests and had to be treated well, so he gave it to Qi Yunxiao and his wife.

Shen Qingyu was very satisfied to see the room with clean bedding that had been remade.

We're already pretty good off with these conditions, why would we need anything else?

Even so, the boat captain came to ask what we wanted to eat that night so he could prepare in advance.

Shen Qingyu looked at the late summer weather and asked, "How about we have hot pot?"

The boatman agreed and went.

Standing at the bow of the ship, watching the cargo ship sail upstream, Shen Qingyu and Qi Yunxiao were both in high spirits.

This wasn't Qi Yunxiao's first time on a boat, but the scenery had never been as beautiful as this time.
