Chapter 57 (Revised)

When Xie Yu woke up, she was still on Shangguan Mingyan's back.

Shangguan Mingyan ran on the road with her on his back. He ran so fast that all he could hear was the whistling wind around him.

Xie Yuqing moved her fingers, regaining her composure, and uttered hoarsely, "Yun Yu!"

"Senior Sister, you're awake!" Shangguan Mingyan heard Xie Yuqing's voice and said without turning his head. "You just fainted suddenly. I'll take you to an inn to rest. I've already notified the sect elders, so don't worry."

Xie Yuqing listened to Shangguan Mingyan's voice and slowly came to her senses. She felt her spiritual power slowly recovering and whispered, "Put me down."

"Senior Sister," Shangguan Mingyan frowned, "We're already out."

"Put me down!"

Xie Yuqing shouted angrily, and Shangguan Mingyan finally stopped. Xie Yuqing got off his back, her body was unstable, and she almost stumbled and fell, but Shangguan Mingyan held her up.

Xie Yuqing was supported by him. After a moment's rest, her breathing became steady. She looked around. This place wasn't far from Wangu Cliff, so she probably hadn't been unconscious for long. She turned around, sword in hand, and whispered, "You go back first. I'll go find them."

Shangguan Mingyan didn't say anything. He clenched his fists and stared at Xie Yuqing as he walked forward. After a long moment, he finally roared, "Don't you understand? There's no point in you going back!"

Xie Yuqing paused, listening to Shangguan Mingyan's angry outburst from behind, "Who do you think you are? Why do you think Qin Yan wants to stay there? He's just worried about you, so he asked us to leave first. If he dies there, you'll die if you go. You're not even caring about yourself." Shangguan Mingyan lowered his voice, sounding somewhat weak, "Please think about others, okay?"

"I'm sorry." Xie Yuqing said with difficulty, facing away from him, "I shouldn't have brought you here."

"I thought I could protect you."

She turned her back to him and said a few words, "It was my arrogance that hurt you and Yunyu. Now that you are safe, I have to go back."

Shangguan Mingyan was stunned. He looked at Xie Yuqing in disbelief. "You came out just to send Yunyu and me out?"

Xie Yuqing remained silent. Shangguan Mingyan seemed to find this a bit absurd. He laughed and then taunted, "Who am I? Who is Yunyu? Is it worth your risking your life for me? Aren't you practicing the ruthless way? If you are ruthless, why do you care about us?"

"To cultivate the ruthless way is to seek the supreme forgetfulness of emotions, not to sever them." Xie Yuqing finally spoke, saying calmly, "As long as you are my junior brother, I will protect you."

As they were talking, there was a muffled thunder in the sky. Xie Yuqing looked up into the distance and whispered, "Mingyan, go back. I'll be back soon."

After saying that, Xie Yuqing turned into a ray of light and disappeared in front of Shangguan Mingyan in an instant.

Shangguan Mingyan stood there for a long time. After a long time, the drizzle fell on him, and he finally reacted.

He wiped his face and muttered, "A bunch of lunatics."

After saying that, he also turned into a ray of light and chased after Xie Yuqing.

After the first time, going down the Wangu Cliff became much smoother the next time.

When Xie Yuqing jumped off the Wangu Cliff, he saw that Baiyu City was shrouded in countless evil spirits. Outside Baiyu City, it was not as lively as usual. The ghosts that originally lived in their respective territories had long disappeared, and it seemed that they all flocked to Baiyu City.

She searched the bottom of the cliff for a while but couldn't find Yunyu. Her heart sank, and then she heard a voice behind her shouting, "Senior Sister!"

Xie Yuqing turned around and saw Shangguan Mingyan coming towards him on a sword from a distance. Xie Yuqing frowned and asked, "What are you doing here?"

"Come and die together."

Shangguan Mingyan saw Xie Yuqing frowning and couldn't help but sneer, his brows instantly showing a bit of evil that had never appeared before.

Xie Yuqing stood there in a daze. Shangguan Mingyan seemed to realize that he had lost his composure. He turned his head away and returned to his usual gentle and respectful demeanor. He whispered, "I am angry that Senior Sister is willing to risk her life. My words were inappropriate. Please forgive me."

Xie Yuqing didn't care about these things. She looked around. Since Shangguan Mingyan had come down, it would not be easy for him to go back. Seeing that he was not in any serious trouble, she could only say, "Follow me."

Shangguan Mingyan responded and followed Xie Yuqing. He saw Xie Yuqing following Yunyu's trail everywhere. Shangguan Mingyan remained expressionless as he looked around. After a moment, he suddenly cried out in surprise, "Senior Sister, what is this?"

Xie Yuqing heard Shangguan Mingyan calling out and quickly stood up and turned around to see Shangguan Mingyan holding a bloodstained doll. Xie Yuqing quickly walked over, took the doll from Shangguan Mingyan's hand, and examined it carefully.

Shangguan Mingyan stood respectfully aside, his hands folded in front of him. After observing for a moment, he slowly said, "These evil spirits don't gnaw on bones. Now that there's no trace of Senior Brother Yun, I'm afraid he's been rescued. This doll seems to be something close to Senior Brother Yun. It must be a token of his warning, right?"

Xie Yuqing listened to Shangguan Mingyan's words, nodded, took out a box from her spirit bag, and carefully put the doll into the box.

Then she stood up and walked towards Baiyu City. Shangguan Mingyan hurriedly followed. When Xie Yuqing saw him catch up, she immediately said, "This trip is dangerous for me."

"It's not dangerous."

Shangguan Mingyan said calmly, "What Xie Shen wants is to help his 100,000 people survive. What he hopes most is that you can help him. Now that you've escaped, Senior Brother will naturally help him find a way to resolve these issues. Judging from the situation in Baiyu City, they may have reached an agreement. If you go now, Xie Shen will not embarrass you anymore."

"How do you know?"

Xie Yuqing frowned. Shangguan Mingyan turned around and smiled gently. "Although my cultivation level is not as good as Senior Sister's, I still understand the ways of the world. Senior Sister, take me with you, and I won't let you suffer any loss."

Xie Yuqing pondered for a moment, nodded, pulled Shangguan Mingyan, and rushed towards the direction where the ghosts were gathering.

She reached the altar unimpeded. As soon as she reached the edge of the altar, she saw two people completely surrounded by ghosts. Fu Changling was holding Qin Yan tightly, and Qin Yan was sitting cross-legged in the center of the altar.

Xie Yuqing paused. Facing the situation before her, she didn't know what to do. As she was thinking, she heard a cold voice from behind, "Wait."

Hearing this, Xie Yuqing suddenly unsheathed the long sword in his hand and pointed it directly at the person who came. Xie Shen stood not far away, quietly watching his daughter draw her sword against him.

He had already become a ghost, and it was difficult to see the expression on a ghost's face. However, when the tip of the sword pointed in front of him, Xie Yuqing still sensed a faint, suppressed sadness emanating from this person.

"I am your father," he said, his voice as cold as ever, "you shouldn't point a sword at me."

"Let them go," Xie Yuqing said coldly. Hearing this, Xie Shen was furious. "He is a disciple of Hongmeng Tiangong. Have you forgotten what I told you? It was Hongmeng Tiangong that harmed our Le Kingdom. It was they who harmed your family and separated you and me. And you actually want to point your sword at me for the sake of Hongmeng Tiangong's people?"

"I am also a disciple of Hongmeng Tiangong." Xie Yuqing said coldly, "I was born and raised in Hongmeng Tiangong. I don't remember what you said. I only know one thing." Xie Yuqing looked up at Xie Shen, "What you said has nothing to do with Junior Brother Qin and Junior Brother Fu."

Xie Shen remained silent. He looked at Xie Yuqing. After a long moment, he finally spoke in a hoarse voice, "You were a very well-behaved child."

"When you were little, you always wanted me to hold you. You said that when you grew up, you would learn magic. You didn't learn magic to become stronger, but you said you wanted to protect me and the people of Le Country."

Xie Yuqing said nothing. She held the sword, as if she had no emotion at all. She just looked at Xie Shen quietly. Xie Shen looked into her eyes and said in a low voice, "You shouldn't be like this, my daughter. You shouldn't be like this."

"My father," Xie Yuqing finally spoke, "is not as good as you."

"How am I?"

"He can't distinguish right from wrong, good from evil, doesn't care about cause and effect, and disregards the principles of heaven." Xie Yuqing spoke each word with exceptional clarity. "He shouldn't be like this."

Xie Shen clenched his fists as he listened to these words. Xie Yuqing stared at him and said calmly, "If you are my father, then let them go."

"impossible."

Xie Shen decisively rejected her. At that moment, a blinding ray of light suddenly burst forth from Fu Changling and Qin Yan, blasting them with a violent gust of wind. Xie Shen blankly stared at the ray of light, muttering in disbelief, "A world's worth of merit?"

The brilliant light shot all the way up into the sky, and the souls that were touched were instantly cleansed of their hostility, revealing their original appearance.

The brilliant light enveloped the entire Wangu Cliff inch by inch, and Wangu Cliff was instantly covered by all kinds of sounds, including crying, screaming, and joy.

In the midst of the brilliant light, Fu Changling slowly opened his eyes and looked across at Qin Yan, who still had his eyes closed and seemed to have not yet come out of the illusion.

As they sat down, branches and leaves quickly sprouted and turned green, growing outward around them. Then a bright red flower bloomed next to Fu Changling's hand.

Qin Yan on the opposite side didn’t look that good.

Their bodies were devoid of flesh and blood, leaving only bones and blood-soaked skeletons. They looked even a bit terrifying. But Fu Changling couldn't take his eyes off the person in front of him.

He should have seen Qin Yan like this earlier.

But it happened so late in this life.

The wind was blowing violently, ghosts were wailing, dark clouds were gathering in the sky, and the clouds were rolling, making a rumbling sound.

Before Xie Yuqing could react, Xie Shen shouted, "It's a thunder tribulation, get out of the way!"

After saying that, a hand instantly grabbed Xie Yuqing, and the two of them retreated quickly.

Just as Xie Yuqing jumped out of the altar, a burst of thunder suddenly struck down and rushed straight towards the two bloody skeletons in the middle.

The skeleton dressed in black stretched out his hand, gracefully picked up a fully bloomed flower at his feet, and spread it out in his palm.

Under the thunder, the blood-red flower instantly vanished into the palm of the black-clad, withered figure. Then, flesh and blood rapidly grew on Fu Changling's body, revealing his handsome features. He closed his eyes, one hand holding a fan to his lips, the other finger forming a sword and pressing it between Qin Yan's brows. Then, a gust of wind and clouds surged around him, and spiritual energy formed a vortex, pouring into his body. Spiritual energy rapidly gathered at his dantian, swirling wildly. As the sky and earth changed color, a golden elixir took shape in his dantian.

The moment the golden elixir took shape, lightning struck down wildly. Fu Changling's expression remained unchanged, only his lips moved.

Qin Yan was very close to him. Logically, the lightning should have hit him as well, but the thunder seemed to have eyes and all of it bombarded Fu Changling. Qin Yan was closest to him and could only see the thunder energy that had been cleansed by Fu Changling flowing along his fingertips and all the way to Qin Yan.

Flesh and blood slowly grew out of Qin Yan's body. He did not open his eyes, but only heard the humming sound of the sword in his hand and Fu Changling's Tanxin Sword.

The thunder came quickly and fiercely. The two swords finally rose up with all their strength, crossed each other and rushed into the sky to block the thunder.

The last thunder struck the two swords hard, and the two swords made a slight sound. Qin Yan finally opened his eyes.

Amidst the thunder and lightning, he saw the young man across from him. His reshaped golden body finally revealed some of his past life's appearance. Fu Changling, now a young man, was much thinner than he had been in his youth. His once heavily painted features seemed to have been suddenly shrouded in a mist, giving them a hint of coldness.

Fu Changling seemed to sense Qin Yan waking up, and he opened his eyes as well. The thunder gradually faded. Fu Changling looked at the man in the Huaguang who was intact, and couldn't help but laugh. "Look," Fu Changling said in a hoarse voice, "I said I could save you, didn't I?"

Qin Yan listened and looked at Fu Changling.

After a long while, he calmly said, "Thank you."

Fu Changling didn't say anything. The thunder slowly disappeared and the wind gradually died down. Not long after, the light gradually dissipated and a spiritual rain fell under the Wangu Cliff, washing away the dust from the sky and the earth.

Two mighty forces of the Spirit Transformation Stage intertwined and spread out, filling the sky and earth. After the rain, the darkness in the sky dissipated, revealing a clear blue sky. In the distance, the setting sun was like blood, the sunset melted gold, and the blood-red wind blew past. Above the open space, one transparent soul after another emerged, quietly watching the people on the altar.

The last soul was Xie Shen. He finally revealed his appearance in life. He looked to be in his early thirties, but his eyes held a deep sense of desolation. He was dressed in the regalia of an emperor, standing before the crowd, silently gazing at the two men on the altar.

Fu Changling noticed the appearance of souls around him. He stood up first and then stretched out his hand towards Qin Yan.

Qin Yan shook his head and stood up. The two of them turned around and looked at the vast number of souls around them. After a moment, they saw these souls slowly kneeling down one after another like waves.

Fu Changling watched the scene quietly with a calm expression. For a moment, he felt like he was having a big dream.

He was not reborn, nor did he return to his youth. He was always the True Lord Huayang of that time.

Alone and burdened with mountains and rivers.
