Chapter 329: Inside and Outside the City
"You got another book. Just tell Olek that." Chu Hengkong said.
Kanin's face was full of bitterness, as if he was not cutting a steak but a stewed shoe sole.
"I don't think it will be satisfied with such a vague answer."
"Use your intelligence to fill in the rest. There's no shortage of demons in the city-state anyway." Chu Hengkong put down his knife and fork. "Besides, he doesn't need my answer."
Everyone knows that fate is omnipresent, and misfortune, the dark side of trends, is even more so. In Chu Hengkong's view, Olek's search for a messenger was completely unnecessary; if he wanted, he could always grasp the every move of everyone in Jingsha.
"That's not necessarily true." Kanin poured his wine slowly. "From my personal experience, one of the differences between gods and mortals is that they never do anything unnecessary unless it is something they are interested in."
Chu Hengkong knocked on the wooden table: "Olek has any concerns?"
Granted, this was Jingsha's territory, and the old jellyfish's cautious nature was consistent with its character. However, considering how it had previously chaotically entered the Great Library like no one was there, and that Orlec had already sent out his spirit clones, this didn't seem like a reasonable explanation.
Unless it has other concerns...
"Inspector, I have to say you always like to make overly bold associations." Kanin raised his glass. "But as the trend says, I said nothing. I didn't reveal any information, nor did I make any inappropriate hints... I was honest and dutiful."
Another hint. Kanin also had concerns, and the previous topic touched upon its "limitations." What were its limitations? It had taken over the business beneath the amusement park, and Olek probably wouldn't be the one directing the entertainment...
Of course, anything that can operate in the fifth meridian for a long time must be a legacy that the Divine Guards cannot handle even with all their efforts.
"I remember you were a good businessman. Businessmen value their reputation, don't they?" Chu Hengkong said nonchalantly. "You didn't give me any of the information you promised. It's hard for me to sign a contract with you."
Kanin smiled and said, "We have a wide range of supply channels. Whatever you want, I will do my best to make it happen."
"I was almost killed by wild dogs yesterday. I want information about the chaos."
"I'm afraid I have no choice but to refuse you this time." Kanin's smile deepened. "You know the rules of our business. You have to be loyal if you want to get involved."
"That's right." Chu Hengkong stood up. "Then our deal is off. Let's have a drink together next time when we're free."
"As you wish." Kanin took off his hat.
Chu Hengkong left the bar and walked briskly back to the bookstore. On the way, he saw musicians rehearsing and every household decorating their doorways with flowers, as if preparing for the festival.
Back at the bookstore, Gulibo was dropping seeds onto the mushroom house. This strange hybrid had somehow achieved soilless cultivation, and once dropped onto the roof, a small bud popped into existence. Ji Huaisu and a group of shop assistants were busy helping with the sowing.
"What did that bastard workshop owner say?" she asked as she threw the ball.
"He said he was loyal."
"That's the funniest joke I've heard in the past two years," she replied, throwing another seed high up, hitting the crucian carp on the head as it opened the door for some fresh air. Manager Yu's eyes rolled back as he disappeared behind the window.
"Oh my god." Ji Huaisu quietly stuffed the seed basket into Gulibo's claws, "I have something urgent to do, come on..."
"Bo?"
Less than half a minute later, the crucian carp flew down the stairs in a rage, pouncing on Gulibo like a man-eating flying fish. A cheerful (?) noise rang out from outside the door.
"Gulibo!!!" "It's unfair, Bo! It really wasn't me, Bo!"
Chu Hengkong considerately closed the bookstore door and returned to the small room on the top floor. Vander, wearing a hot blood bandage, flipped through the ancient books with the same vigor as a student sprinting on the eve of a final exam.
"I must catch that old thing's tail," it vowed.
"After a sleepless night, I feel more energetic now."
"Damn it, the enemy has come to my door, aren't I just going to wait for death?" Vander yelled, "I've figured it all out, damn ignorance is bliss. After I kill Fu Lidan, I can have as much fun as I want!"
"Although your goal is too ambitious, at least you have no problem with your thinking." Chu Hengkong agreed. "I think we should start with the present and see how you are figuring out your new ability."
Fan De glared, and that invisible feeling came over him again. Ji Huaisu just happened to walk in with a wry smile: "I'll lend you two a room to hide in... Hey, where are you two?"
Fander blinked, and the two invisible people returned to reality. Ji Huaisu stared at them with wide eyes: "This is too disgusting!"
"It's your heart that's vulgar, you middle-aged man!" Vander protested loudly.
"Is this the extent of your feelings about Finder's new ability?"
"My main skill is hypnosis, and my new ability is invisibility. I'm having trouble thinking straight." Ji Huaisu shrank back. "Will I awaken and time stop after collecting one more book? Damn, this is terrifying. He's the public enemy of women!"
"The biggest threat to the women around you is your brain!"
Chu Hengkong picked up the ferocious Fan De and said, "Can this thing be used by Huaisu?"
"Of course not. Only you and I can use it." Vander rolled his eyes. "If I'm not here, you can use the book to trigger it, but it will only last for a short time."
"Test the reduction in regular damage."
Vander used the invisibility spell again, and Ji Huaisu took out a stick and hit the invisible people.
"There's absolutely no feel for it. It feels like I didn't hit anything at all, let alone miss."
"But actually, I was hit." Chu Hengkong appeared, "Your weapon was also hit by the rebound, but you didn't notice it."
Ji Huaisu stared at the slightly crooked mallet. "This invisibility ability also has hypnotic properties... It would be very effective in a one-on-one duel."
"It's difficult to become invisible in time in that kind of situation. It would be better to prepare in advance for infiltration." Chu Hengkong judged.
"So Finder's thesis result is an assassin-specific invisibility technique? It doesn't seem to fit the bill."
Fander shook his head. "It's just a part of it. The book that records the 'invisibility technique' was hidden in the thorns due to fate... There should be two more books like this."
Ji Huaisu tilted his head: "What do you mean? Are you saying that your graduation thesis was divided into three parts by the director?"
"My impression is this. Although the whereabouts of the third book are still unclear, I already have an idea of the next one." Vander said, "That book is in the old man's hands! The last time we met in the wilderness, the old man gave me some information, but he didn't give me the book. That's why I didn't remember my new ability."
"Is Black Moon next?" Ji Huaisu sighed, "It's getting more and more exaggerated. What on earth were you researching back then?"
"You'll understand when you get the next book," said Finder. "But now the most important thing is to master our new abilities. We have to prepare quickly before the next attack from Fulidan!"
"Oh, surprisingly you didn't say anything discouraging!" Ji Huaisu clenched his fists. "That's how it should be. We should also work hard within our capabilities. I plan to write a letter to Dad to ask for some information. Ah Kong, do you have any questions?"
"Please ask for some advice on how to deal with the chaos." Chu Hengkong said, "It's better to cram at the last minute than to sit and wait for death."
After the incident at the Great Library, he knew Jingsha wasn't a safe haven. Olek's attitude was ambiguous, Fulidan was undoubtedly plotting his next move, and Pariman's true colors were unclear beneath his stern facade. Add to that the absurd bill, yet it had widespread public support...
This place may seem peaceful on the surface, but the deeper he gets into it, the more hidden dangers he realizes. He originally planned to come to Jingsha for vacation and to find someone, but unknowingly he found himself getting deeper and deeper into trouble.
Maybe it's time to consider leaving Jingsha.
Chu Hengkong lay back on the bed, thinking that he should find out about the situation outside Jingsha in the afternoon.
·
A desperate front, a trench somewhere.
Artillery fire roared, and the ground shook like waves. The captain of the Canxin launched a new string of venom bombs, then retreated back beneath the city wall. The venomous explosion melted several demon-possessed people into skeletons.
"What's the divination result?!" he yelled, "Take it seriously, you bastard!"
The only quiet member of the mercenary team was staring intently at the ash. Upon hearing this, he replied, "Shut up and don't bother me!"
"Huh?! If you delay the opportunity, I'll behead you!"
The Canxinzhe felt anxious. The rotation date was approaching, and he hadn't earned much in the way of military merit. Returning home like this would surely be ridiculed. He wanted to urge his men to hurry, but instead he turned and stabbed his dagger into the head of his companion beside him, dark blood gushing from the wound.
"The hexagram says there is dark moon pollution!" exclaimed the fortune teller.
"Tell me something I don't know!" The Canxin was nearly furious. He kicked the Defiler's head off, but the others' bodies rose to their feet. A thin, robed figure appeared at the front of the trench. It was the Cangyue Alien, a Fallen with a strength between 3 and 4 Sephiroth. The appearance of such a being meant they were surrounded.
But the Canxin suppressed his nervousness, his elemental senses signaling a change. Sure enough, a flaming meteor rained down upon the alien, and the air was as dry as a volcanic crater. Another angry demon arrived, and a three-way brawl ensued.
"Let's give it a try..." He took out the scroll from the bottom of the box.
"Hex!" the fortuneteller screamed like a duck. "Silver hexagram!"
The Canxin leader gasped and dropped the scroll to the ground. A cloud of noxious smoke erupted, and he seized the opportunity to lead the fortune teller away, exerting all his strength. Barely three seconds later, a powerful demon-possessed beast leaped onto the battlefield, crushing their trenches and the bodies within them in the aftermath. The Cangyue alien exerted mind control over the beast, while the angry demon continued its roar and ravages everything, and then—
A silver light flashed in the dust.
In just a moment, a cold giant appeared in the center of the battlefield.
Its height reached a staggering eight meters, its shadow large enough to simultaneously envelop the Three External Paths. The beast, before it, looked like a docile cat. Its lower body evoked the great armor of an ancient general, its impenetrable armor beneath trapezoidal tracks serving as feet. Its demonic, ferocious upper body, ablaze with crimson light, was armored like scales, each concealing a miniature gun muzzle awaiting cooling. Atop its armory-like form, a one-eyed head gazed impassively down upon the battlefield.
A flaming meteor crashed down upon it. It did not need to dodge; the flames could not penetrate its armor. It raised its limbs, which ended in a cage, the bars of which were four razor-sharp scimitars. Its claws pierced the demon's body, its force field confining the pitiful elemental life, compressing it, erasing its thoughts and transforming them into pure energy.
It collected flames, unleashing artillery fire to consume the demonic, polluted lifeforms. As the Crescent Moon Alien unleashed its spell, it drew its weapon with its left wrist. A massive silver battleaxe chopped the Alien apart, disintegrating its foul flesh and sealing it within the weapon.
The Imperial standard-issue weapon, the "Blade of Understanding." Only soldiers authorized to participate in combat are authorized to wield it, and its wielder becomes a symbol of death, feared by all sides of the battlefront.
External Path Point 3, the ultimate true weapon to defend against dead soldiers.
The dead soldiers retracted their weapons and sent out a communication: "The battlefield has been cleared. Request to start the transmission operation."
Maps, plans, and necessary information were delivered by the Think Tank to the nearest engineering unit, and an Immortal arrived two standard seconds later. Approved materials were deployed by the air combat units of Seismic Point 4, and the Immortal took 98 standard seconds to complete the transfer. In line with the planned time, the Dead Soldier entered the command.
"3001/07/17, Death Guard P-876548 requests to receive a transmission."

The teleportation device began to operate and ended after 3.56 seconds. A Sephiroth 6 Lord appeared before them. The Death Guard extended their right limb and said to this noble Near-God who could decide their fate, and indeed the fate of all the armies here:
"Transmission successful. Security check now begins. Please open the database and disarm."
