Chapter 341: The Starry Sky Sets the Nether Snake Staff (2)
In a secret room somewhere in the Jingsha city-state.
Dozens of screens were stacked in a small space, each displaying a battle taking place somewhere in the Third Pulse. Six of them played slow-motion footage from just a few seconds earlier, each showing a flash of purple lightning obliterating a figure in the center of the screen.
Guo Yutu tapped away at the virtual keyboard with his mental energy while the soldier beside him fed him a sip of Coke. Bloody laughter echoed across the communication channel: "Six duds in total. Your signal is malfunctioning."
"Thanks for reminding me. I already noticed it two minutes ago. Maintain the current distance and don't start a formal battle. Keep wearing him down."
"Too many appetizers can make lunch boring."
"I'm telling you one last time. Even if Jas Trek risked his life, there's a chance he could forcibly teleport you to Mansa Star Fortress," Guo Yutu said. "Personally, I really hope you'll appear before the captain the next moment and be sentenced to death by slow slicing, but this is a Blood Alliance mission, and I'm the commander-in-chief, so listen to me!"
"I suggest you hurry up, Commander-in-Chief, before I can't help but get on the field."
Guo Yutu switched directly to another communication channel. On the screen wall, an image of a black-haired, eye-patch-covered woman running flashed, with an indescribable, terrifying beast chasing her from behind.
"Lelna Barry, stop dawdling. I have a new task for you."
"I didn't, I was bitten! That damn seal is still chasing me!!!" Lerna screamed back.
Guo Yutu sighed deeply. "Little girl, I'm giving you two choices. Either you go down and fight for real now, or I'll send your B-rated film, 'Blood Alliance Killer vs. Fat Animals,' to Chu Hengkong tomorrow."
“You can’t!!”
"If you don't want to embarrass yourself, then be serious." Guo Yutu covered his face with his hands. "Oh my god, I can't bear to watch this anymore. I have to report to Wang Quan."
On the screen, Laerna desperately dodged the giant claw's attack. Her bloody long sword had barely slashed when it was devoured by the beast. The woman tumbled and screamed, "I'll take care of that thing! Give me three more minutes! Please!"
"OK, last three minutes."
Guo Yutu cut off the communication, threw the image of the female assassin to the far corner of the screen wall, and casually marked a 180-second countdown on her retina. He dreamed of the night of the siege of Velus, and that familiar feeling of collapse came over him again. In this kind of mission, he would rather have three obedient particles than these two idiots.
Fortunately, he still has a lot of particles 4 in his hands.
Guo Yutu switched to the public channel: "Notify all antennas, switch to Plan 3. Hide in the nearest crowd, the more people the better. Attention, assassins ranked above 200, we are issuing you an urgent mission now..."
The blonde girl's photo and detailed information flashed on the screen wall, including her background, common methods and estimated strength.
Target: Ji Huaisu of Huilong City.
Request: Life or death.
Guo Yutu hit the Enter key: "Start now."
·
"The 8th one!"
Ji Huaisu used the Infinity Sword to cut an athlete in half, breaking him down into tiny particles by the high-frequency vibrations. She grabbed her jersey and leaped into the sky, leaving behind a chorus of unexplained screams.
"I beg you to restrain yourself. You have essentially become a serial killer! The kind that has no reason to argue even if Benintic sentences you to life imprisonment!" Vander screamed.
"You're still fussing about this when your poetry umbrella is about to explode. Go talk to a bomb about the law." Ji Huaisu pulled out the antenna. "VV, how's it going?"
"Reverse engineering complete, one bomb dismantled. We estimate we'll need 10 more samples to lock onto the main antenna."
VV marked the next point, which was about half the length of the poetry umbrella from their current position. Ji Huaisu questioned, "That makes no sense!"
Based on the frequency distribution of the thousands of explosions, the distance between the next target point and the remaining antennas was already far beyond the average estimate. VV explained, "The enemy has taken measures to forcibly eliminate the surrounding signals, leaving only the signals from the more distant detonations. I can perform a high-precision scan, but..."
"We're running out of time, aren't we?" Vander's eyes ached. "This is clearly a trap. Their main combat force must be heading there, waiting to surround us."
Ji Huaisu calmed down. "But the signal is real. They can't possibly give up on containing Lao Cui for my sake. That would be putting the cart before the horse. Is it possible that they will restart the signal in the current area after I leave?"
"It's possible, so I added a virus to the scanning band. If they reactivate it, multiple antennas will be poisoned simultaneously, exposing the main antenna's location." VV said, "Right now, the enemy is busy reprogramming the psychic signal. Their technicians are no mediocre people."
"It's really reassuring to see you guys still battling it out in the virtual space!"
Ji Huaisu kicked off and flew, rushing as fast as she could towards her target, which was thousands of kilometers away. At this moment, she really wanted to complain about the date of the Jinghua Festival. If it had been a few days later, she could at least ride a semi-finished mount, which would have been much faster.
VV's electronic voice sounded at the perfect moment: "By the way, next time please don't hide information from me. You are actually Sephiroth 3."
"Huh? Why are you bringing this up all of a sudden? Do you have any evidence?" Ji Huaisu yelled.
"Oh, you are really awesome. Where do you get the confidence to compete with this person?" said Vander.
"Your frontal combat capability far exceeds that of a regular Free Wind, but your speed is disproportionate to your destructive power. I can only assume that you possess a special Sephiroth 3 with outstanding expertise in some area, otherwise you would have arrived by now."
"Okay, you're right, I'm not Zizaifeng. Is there a problem?"
"Yes, the first group of enemy pursuers have caught up with you. Watch your rear and try to use only one method."
Ji Huaisu created a large block of ice to serve as a rearview mirror. Three black iron soldiers were soaring towards him, using antique wooden wings to fly and wearing bronze eagle masks. If Li Ke were there, she would have noticed that these soldiers looked exactly like the messenger, only without the sinister bloody holes on their faces.
"Target found, launch a cluster attack." The eagle-faced soldier drew his bow.
Ji Huaisu struck the two soldiers with a purple lightning bolt, turning them and their bows into charcoal. The two soldiers then flew to the left and right to avoid the lightning bolts, and were knocked down by them respectively.
"It's easy."
Ji Huaisu didn't even turn her head the entire time. As she gradually descended, she saw a dense mass of people on the ground, the sound of music so grand it reached the heavens. Crowds filled every corner, even the rooftops, singing and dancing to the music. Giant floats filled the main road.
Fander was dumbfounded: "Where is the target?"
The previously successful method of finding people failed. This time, the virtual map only zoomed in on a corner of the parade, locking the range to at least a hundred people, and this blurry aperture continued to move with the movement of the crowd.
VV explained: "The antenna is hidden in the crowd. The algorithm can't accurately identify too many targets. Follow him until I finish updating-"
"Are you sure you are in that circle?" Ji Huaisu drew out the burning sword.
"Sure."
"Mark a spot." She slashed down with her sword, "Soul-Purifying Divine Fire!"
The sword light rose high, transforming into a pillar of fire that pierced the sky and pierced the earth. The flames rained down upon the crowd from above, like a meteor of destruction falling from the sky. Before they could even scream, the procession of over a thousand people was engulfed in flames!
"What have you done?" VV said.
Ji Huaisu rushed directly towards the burning area, disregarding any concerns. The flames extinguished with her arrival, revealing a completely revitalized group of people. The dancers and musicians in the group stared at themselves in astonishment, finding their skin smooth, their muscles strong, and even their spirits more than doubled. This unexpected good fortune made them overlook the few unlucky ones in the group who had been evaporated.
When Ji Huaisu picked up the fallen clothes, someone pointed at her and shouted in surprise: "That lady did it!"
"Greetings from the Divine Guards. Happy holidays everyone!"
She soared into the sky, clutching the half-burned antenna. "My pure fire punishes evil and promotes good. I only kill evil spirits and heretics, leaving civilians alone."
"But I saw more than one person evaporated." Vander said, "You killed the one who was about to ambush you with your sword."
“Isn’t that good?”
"Excellent! You're the most ideal counter-terrorist I've ever met." VV suddenly sent a massive amount of character intelligence. "Next target, follow the route I've laid out. Pursuers are coming, please evade the attack..."
This time, VV abandoned the side quest and marked a maze-like route full of twists and turns. Ji Huaisu spotted several men with unfriendly faces running in the shortest direction and decided to listen to their advice. She followed the navigation for three seconds when three more eagle-masked soldiers charged forward. She instinctively launched her lightning spear.
"I repeat, please avoid the fight!" VV continued to emphasize.
"You've seen it wrong. This thing is the same one as before..." Ji Huaisu took a breath, "Fuck?"
The lightning spear struck the soldier head-on, but it had no effect. The lightning seemed to be swallowed up and disappeared beneath the black iron uniform. Two cold lights shone from behind the eagle mask. Ji Huaisu suddenly felt an excruciating pain in her head, and her body's movements froze instantly, so much so that she herself could not help but stop.
She pressed her temples hard, forcing herself to swing her flaming sword. The eagle-masked soldier drew his ancient Tang sword and, with a single blow, severed her flames. The mental agony intensified as the assassins closed in behind her. Ji Huaisu caught a glimpse of a dark mass of movement from the corner of her eye. More soldiers were approaching, not just three or five, but hundreds!
More than a hundred eagle-faced soldiers are approaching her!
·
In the secret room, Guo Yutu happily drank a sip of Coke.
"Intelligence analysis complete, emotional mapping analysis complete, collectively equipped with anti-elemental armor, and implanted with the mental infection virus..."
He typed "Bombing Order."
"Begin the encirclement and suppression."
·
"Please evacuate as soon as possible." "I'm doing it!!" Ji Huaisu covered his aching head, "What the hell is this?!"
VV sent a large text message describing the Black Death Army: "An army of Automata, specifically enhanced and modified to target specific enemies. The enemy has intercepted your intelligence through their previous units, and now all members of this army are assassins specifically targeting you." She also added a voice message: "Protect your spirit while evacuating, otherwise you will be contaminated by their mental power."
Ji Huaisu gritted her teeth and switched to the defensive green armor. The protection of the ice armor made her feel a little better, but at the same time, the pursuers from behind had arrived, and the guy leading the group, who was dressed as a magician, threw a fireball.
With swift action, she unleashed the Holy Trinity Formation, instantly extinguishing the magician's fireball. Before he could even curse, a club knocked half his teeth out. Ji Huaisu conjured a popsicle to stab the second dagger-wielding assassin, then grabbed the magician's head and smashed him down like a mallet, sending the third man flying.
Ji Huaisu felt a piercing pain in her back as the Black Death Army's feathered missiles struck, leaving traces of blood seeping from beneath her icy armor. She ignited the Pure Fire for emergency healing and turned to see the eagle-faced soldiers had already flown out of the formation's range. They were incredibly agile, and the people behind them were incredibly cautious, unlike the madman who'd been throwing bombs recklessly.
She shouted in her head, "You've fought these things before, right? How did you take them out before?"
"The longer you fight the Black Death Army, the stronger they become. The only way to win is to kill them before they completely control you," VV said. "Last time, I airdropped my most trusted assassin and killed their commander."
Ji Huaisu kicked a soldier away: "Good plan! Where is the commander? I'll go kill him!"
"Find the main antenna and you'll find the commander."
Ji Huaisu almost choked: "I am surrounded by the Black Death Army. How can I find the main antenna?"
"Friends, let me tell you that a large force is coming and we really have to run away!" Vander screamed.
"Wide-area psychic attack." VV offered an emergency strategy. "Your companion has powerful psychic powers. Rely on them!"
With her last blow, Ji Huaisu smashed the third soldier's wings, then looked up at the dark mass of troops in the sky. She pulled out her Vander and raised it above her head: "Vander, hypnosis!"
"Stop!!!!" Vander screamed heartbreakingly.
A flash of dusky light passed by, and the Black Death Army, which had been diving in mid-air, suddenly stopped. Ji Huaisu was overjoyed: "It worked!"
Inside the secret room, Guo Yutu exclaimed "Oh" in surprise.
"Switch to manual mode."
The eagle-faced soldiers simultaneously drew their longbows, their eyes lit up red, and Fander screamed, "Run!!!"
