Chapter 4: Full of Water Power
Hitmen make their living by taking orders; they need work to showcase their skills. However, taking money from one business can negatively impact the business of a rival, and it can also create a negative image in the eyes of others. Therefore, choosing an employer is a matter of careful consideration. Such a large city is bound to be a hodgepodge of all kinds of people. Who will be the best fit for a successful career?
Is there any need to ask? Of course, working with the official side is the most promising!
No matter how reputable a gang may be, it's merely a local tyrant. The official authorities are the undisputed masters of this territory. When chasing down a scoundrel, the master doesn't worry about winning; he only considers whether the reward is worth it. In the 1940s, even the arrogant gangsters boasted connections to the White House, yet they were still chased away by the police during meetings. Didn't the once-powerful "bosses" and "bigwigs" of Kowloon Walled City still find themselves uprooted when the time came?
Chu Hengkong's former boss was the godfather of an old-school mafia family. Having been in the underworld for so long, he was particularly familiar with the ins and outs of the business. A lean camel is bigger than a horse. Aside from the few chaotic regions where underworld warlords double as the ruling class, official power always remains the most powerful ceiling. Thus, upon seeing Ji Huaisu, he had made up his mind to recommend himself: seizing this opportunity to connect with official figures would be the easiest way to rise to prominence.
This time, Ji Huaisu's reaction was finally within his expectations. The blonde girl threw the goose leg bone into the soup bowl and sneered, "Mr. Killer, are you still sane? We, the Resurrection Corps, are the city lord's direct law enforcement agency, dedicated to fighting against demons, lunatics, and evil forces. We are the city's true guardians. How could we possibly hire you to commit a crime?"
"First of all, a killer isn't a murderer. Just because I make a living with my fists doesn't mean I only know how to kill to silence witnesses." Chu Hengkong said, "Secondly, your army is in urgent need of manpower. Adding a combat force like me would be a perfect solution to this urgent need."
If Chu Hengkong had thought his idea unfeasible, he would have found a way to escape long before he was even on the road. But what he had seen along the way only strengthened his resolve: the great wizard openly summoning "gods," the wanted posters covering a wall at the Resurrection Corps headquarters, the gravely injured members of the team, and the dilapidated landscape of the city he had witnessed from above...
All of this suggests that the local ruling class is gradually losing control of the city, and they're in desperate need of military support, especially someone capable of dealing with the vicious criminals. And wouldn't a killer who just traveled through time from another world with a clean record be a perfect fit?
Ji Huaisu fell silent for a moment, clearly having similar thoughts. Chu Hengkong spread out one hand, adding a final jolt to the young captain's anger.
"I'm a capable man," he said. "You can entrust the most difficult tasks to me. This way, your men will suffer fewer casualties!"
Ji Huaisu's eyes changed, and Chu Hengkong knew she was moved. He hadn't missed Ji Huaisu's reaction when he had encountered a seriously injured team member before, and he knew then that this girl was a good captain who cared about her subordinates. So far, the matter was half done, but if he wanted to make the final decision, he would have to see her father's opinion.
"You've brought up a good idea." Father Huaisu said with a half-smile. "Indeed, if you work under Huaisu, we can monitor you more easily, and you won't have to undergo amputation surgery for the time being. However, when negotiating a business deal, we have to consider the ratio of reward to risk. Letting someone suspected of being possessed by a demon operate within the team is a huge risk."
He looked at Chu Hengkong deeply and asked, "Do you have the corresponding value?"
Chu Hengkong said confidently: "As long as you are willing to give me a chance."
Father Huaisu walked out slowly and returned with a wanted poster in his hand. He swung it across the long table, and a photo of a fierce, one-eyed man appeared in front of Chu Hengkong.
[“One-eyed Elephant” Hugos]
Reward amount: 100,000 Liuzhu.

He was entrenched in the "Iron Paddle Shop" at No. 67, Luyong Road, and had more than 60 men under his command.

Plenty of water! Watch out for gunshot wounds!
Chu Hengkong grabbed the wanted poster and asked, "Do you want to live or die?"
"Since no one has died, if you have the guts, then give him a good beating." Ji Huaisu said, "How long will it take you?"
Chu Hengkong stretched out his right index finger and crossed it with the tip of the tentacle, making a cross.
"Hey, it's been ten days?" Ji Huaisu frowned.
"Ten minutes is enough." Chu Hengkong smiled.

Chu Hengkong swaggered out of the Resurrection Corps headquarters. He knew his every move was being monitored, both overtly and covertly, but he didn't care. He held a simple map (drawn by Captain Huaisu himself) that led directly to his destination, but he didn't rush to read it. Instead, he looked up at the mysterious "sky."
Only after reaching the headquarters did he realize that the point he had initially traveled through was actually the city's highest point, and that the headquarters was located in the "middle layer" of the city's vertical axis. It was already late in the evening, and the dome formed by the water curtain turned dark as night fell, appearing as distant as the actual sky. The swords dancing wildly in the tide seemed dwarfed at this distance, like schools of fish patrolling the sky above the city.
The city's night sky was starless and moonless, its very interior, like the "sky," streaked with water. Streams of azure water crisscrossed, forming regular waterways. Wooden boats, resembling ancient Viking warships, sailed along these waterways, silently docking at fixed signs, carrying passengers aboard like the "public buses" that belonged to this place. The city's architectural style reminded Chu Hengkong of his homeland at the turn of the century: neatly planned blocks of gray residential buildings sat in neat rows, with a tangle of wiring hidden in the alleyways behind them. Beyond many floors, pompous billboards glowed with a decadent glow.
Yet, these buildings were dilapidated, even crumbling. The roads were half-new, half-old, and many buildings bore cracks from the impact of massive objects. Even blocks away from headquarters showed a number of half-collapsed, abandoned buildings. This place had likely been ravaged by war recently, but was it unclear whether their enemies were other humans or the so-called "demons"?
Chu Hengkong didn't dwell on it; the immediate task was paramount. He extended a silver tentacle upward, wrapping it around a protruding billboard. The tentacle's secretions were sticky, securing it like glue. Chu Hengkong relaxed his "muscles," letting the elastic force carry him off the ground. He planted one foot on the billboard, the tentacle swiftly retracting and then extending again, curling up to the next landing spot. He continued to soar in this bizarre pattern, like a nimble and agile ape darting through the night.
Traveling can still be used to train your arms. The more control you have over your strength, the more confident you will be.
After a dozen leaps, the target building came into view. The "Iron Paddle Shop" was a brightly lit, three-story structure, surrounded by barbed wire and high walls, like a modern urban fortress. Strangely dressed thugs patrolled the perimeter with guns, their clothes a tattered mess, as if they'd been looted. Some wore tactical vests and tights, while others wore sandals but a full suit of rusted armor.
Chu Hengkong used his tentacles to repeatedly traverse the rooftops of nearby buildings, observing the target building from every angle with his exceptional vision. The security appeared tight, but in reality, it was lax. The thugs patrolling outside were absent-minded, and the curtains inside the room were not even fully drawn. Several thugs had opened the windows to secretly smoke. Thanks to this, Chu Hengkong saw numerous guns and daggers.
These amateurs' weapons depot was carelessly set up on the middle floor by the window... There wasn't even a wire fence... Damn, these days, any kind of idiot dares to come to the underworld. The boss would be so angry if he saw someone with guns like this...
The unguarded rooftop was a weak point; a simple punch to a concrete structure like this was enough to penetrate it. He'd sneak in through the rooftop or a window, seize the weapons cache, turn off the power if possible, and then kill them one by one. Normally, Chu Hengkong would have chosen this, but since this was an important debut, he decided to try a more forceful approach.
Chu Hengkong released his tentacles and landed lightly at the entrance of the house. Ji Huaisu, who was observing from a distance with a telescope, was surprised: "What is this guy doing all of a sudden?"
The two thugs guarding the door had the same question. The guard in a tactical vest and tights raised his pistol: "You want to die? Do you know whose territory this is?!"
Chu Hengkong smiled, then thrust an elbow into his chest. The horrific impact cracked his ribs, halted his heart, and sent Guard One sprawling to the ground. Chu Hengkong snatched up Guard Two's pistol with his tentacles, then sideways, grabbed Guard Two's head and shook it gently. Before he could register what was happening, Guard Two screamed in agony from the intense concussion. His vision spun, his brain a tangle of shattered tofu.
"vomit!"
He knelt powerlessly, vomiting in his shattered thoughts. Chu Hengkong picked up the second pistol, but instead of moving forward, he shot the two men in the ankles!
The trigger was pulled, and what came out of the gun was not a bullet, but a swirling stream of water. The water bullet carried a tremendous impact force, breaking the legs of the two men on the spot and sending their bodies flying.
"It's really a water gun?" Chu Hengkong laughed dumbly, "No wonder it has so much water power."
Chu Hengkong crushed the pistol with a single palm. The severely shattered gun was clenched into a metal ball in his hand, and a colorless stream of water gurgled out from the cracks. He threw the metal ball at the closed iron door in front of the house, and a loud sound like a bell echoed. The ball smashed into the heavy door, causing it to open instantly!
Dozens of pairs of eyes in the room stared out the door, and a young man was waving silver tentacles with a smile in his eyes.
"Hands up, weapons down, you are under arrest."
