Chapter 63 The Fire in My Heart Will Never Die

Chapter 63 The Fire in My Heart Will Never Die

The demon's explosion unleashed a fierce wind, and blue flames splattered in the wind like magical fireworks. Chu Hengkong curled his tentacles into small "shields" to protect his head, then plunged his rock blade into the ground to steady himself.

Sparks flew as the blade sank into the ground, leaving a scar over 50 meters long. When the wind finally died down, Chu Hengkong couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. He felt like he'd been battered by a storm, every bone in his body wailing.

The fatigue of continuous combat suddenly hit Chu Hengkong. He hunched over the hilt of his sword, like a dying green shrimp. His skin was covered in bloody wounds, and burns were everywhere. Blood flowed from the wound on his forehead and streaked across his face. He took out the topaz used for communication and realized his voice had broken when he spoke.

"Done." Chu Hengkong took a deep breath. "Is it done?"

Several seconds passed, so long that even the killer felt uneasy, and then Jie An's ecstatic voice came from the crystal: "It's done! The Fire Corpse is no longer under your command!!"

"Great!" Chu Hengkong clenched his fists excitedly. They had made the right bet!

The very fact that the Glowing Corpses attacked like an army was bizarre. Setting aside the fearless fighting spirit of the Black Workshop's private soldiers, the Glowing Corpses were mindless corpses; there was no reason for them to obey orders or wield weapons. Either the workshop owner possessed some kind of relic of unbelievable scope, or some other form of mind control that didn't rely on relics.

Chu Hengkong had seen this method before: the mass infection of the Fantasy Demon, much like the refugees who followed Sansen Wangxiang to break through the curtain. If the demons behind the controlled could be defeated, the mass control would naturally be released. And now that the relic possessed by Besen had been defeated, the pressure on the atrium was naturally greatly reduced.

"Old Jie, this is weird! The enemy on my side suddenly went crazy!" "I need to load up the ammunition! Load up the ammunition quickly! There's hope!" "Where did the transport team go?" "They're still alive! Still breathing!!"

The team members reported in a flurry, their excitement at having survived nearly uncontrollable. They witnessed with their own eyes those mechanical crows suddenly scattering like headless flies, ignoring the enemy and chasing the flames and halos in the ruins.

The sudden change bolstered the team members' spirits, allowing them to brace their wounded bodies and fire wildly with water bullets and firearms. Xie An called out to each district one by one on the chat, relying on this primitive method to confirm the situation. "Is the director of West District 3 still here? East District 5?"

"Yes! The pressure on Gushui Street isn't too great. There's a ghost... a spirit dog helping us!" "The battle on Yongquan Street is going well! Granny Sangjia made a killing, and the brothers are all still alive!" "Heiyong Road can still be defended!" "The tower has just been recaptured on Cat Street!"

Excited responses echoed, and Jie An's brows relaxed. Chu Hengkong couldn't help but smile. The shadow that had been hanging over his heart since the sudden outbreak of the war finally dissipated. Finally, they had defended the city, and all the tasks were completed. Now it all depended on Ji Qiufeng and Huilong.

"Chu Hengkong, how are you?" Jie An was overjoyed and didn't forget to ask, "Hurry up and check your body. That demon was closest to you just now."

Chu Hengkong examined every part of his body and found nothing unusual except for the injuries he had sustained during the recent battle. When Huilong ascended to heaven, he had deliberately used his strength to protect them. This was all thanks to Master Huilong's protection.

Even if there are still some minor problems, that Changle Pill should cure them all.

"It's okay, Youyou protected me." Chu Hengkong said.

He ran to the edge of the Sky Island. Luckily, the battered aircraft had escaped unscathed. He jumped aboard and headed for the giant tree in the center of the city, alertly calling out to Citrine, "I haven't seen Kanin. He might still be on Sky Island. But defending the city is paramount. I'll meet you at headquarters and take your final shift."

"What did you say?" Xie An was stunned for a moment before he realized that he was talking to Ji Huaisu. He spoke weakly: "Girl, did you hear me? I'm talking to you."

No echo.

Chu Hengkong frowned: "Ji Huaisu?"

Still no response, only Jie An's breathing and the shouts of the team members on the communication channel. Chu Hengkong grasped the perception pendant, and he gradually made out the murmur hidden beneath the voices. It was the noise of swords cutting metal, the deeply suppressed panting of fatigue, and the crackle of flames burning the air.

Amidst all the noise, a clear announcement suddenly sounded, frivolous and friendly, like an elegant magician.

It was a man's voice. He said:

"Don't talk about victory or defeat until the dust has settled."

·

Kanin removed the mask of the last enemy, revealing a weathered face. It was a veteran, perhaps one who had experienced the great war. He loosened his grip, and the veteran fell to the ground, incinerating into ash in the blazing green flames.

Kanin also took off his bird-beak mask and black clothes, transforming from an ordinary crow into a gentlemanly blond young man. He had always been among the crows, so no one could find the leader of the black workshop.

Behind him lay a trail of burnt-blackened equipment. An entire elite squad had been annihilated in less than half a minute. Kanin turned and looked toward the main gate of the Resurrection Corps headquarters. The Scourge Knight had arrived three seconds earlier, scarred but with a terrifying gaze.

"Don't talk about victory or defeat until the dust has settled," he said. "I really like this old saying from Longquan Township. It embodies a tenacity that inspires everyone to persevere until death. Only when the last enemy bleeds dry, the battle ends."

Ji Huaisu's shield-holding hand trembled slightly, but his voice remained firm: "Even if you burn this gate to ashes, the city's victory is assured. Look to the sky, your ambition has been shattered!"

"I want to correct you on two points." Kanin chuckled. "First, everyone's strength has its reasons. The power of the Lord of Huilong City stems from the city he owns. Once the totem is taken away and the ruling power changes hands, there's no way he can win even at his peak. Second..."

He calmly jumped back, dodging Ji Huaisu's sudden attack. He raised his finger and pointed to the sky, pointing to the many powerful warriors fighting in the chaotic battle formation.

"Human ambition is not something that can be easily shattered!" Kanin's eyes flashed with crazy determination. "It is because I have seen the ultimate power that I want to lay my hands on that city. It is because I envy the birds flying in the sky that I want to seize their wings and fly into the sky!"

"The fire in my heart is unquenchable, and my ambition will spread like wildfire!"

A cluster of green flames burst out from his fingertips, and within the flames emerged the phantom of a demon with a bird's head and a snake's body. The flames spread to Kanin's entire body, and the phantom of the ambitious demon merged with it, seeping into Kanin's flesh and blood.

He opened his arms, raised his head to the sky and roared. A wave of flames instantly erupted, sending Ji Huaisu flying backward. Flame wings sprouted from his back, his arms transformed into long, hook-like claws, and his body sprouted long, thin feathers, woven into a green cloak that draped behind him.

Waves of flame swirled around Kanin, stirring up a vortex of blazing flames. He slowly ascended through the flames, his form eerie and muscular. At that moment, the fusion was complete. He was the contractor of the ambitious demon, one who had exchanged an unbreakable pact for demonic power. This form had been witnessed by many of the natives of the Destroyed Dust Isle. A few called it the God of Fire, while more fragmented records referred to it as the Bird of the Burning World, the evil deity that brought destruction!

"Aoki."

Kanin casually raised his claws, centered on Ji Huaisu's position, and the ground turned a blinding azure. Almost the instant he raised his hand, azure flames tore through the surface, transforming into a literal pillar of fire. Maivia's immense strength paled before this blow; Bessen's attack was like a flame on a stove.

Ji Huaisu dodged the pillar of fire, her evasion forced, her movements clumsy as unoiled machinery. The Ambition Demon's spell took effect, and her body erupted in flames. Ji Huaisu's mind was strained to the limit, she leaned on her shield to defend herself, but when the pillar of fire vanished, the enemy was gone. A burning pain ripped through her back. Kanin was right behind her, wielding a serpent-like blaze!

Ji Huaisu was whipped back, gritted her teeth, and rolled several times on the ground to avoid the continuous fire. The enemy was faster than her, and she only had time to remove the large shield and replace it with a spherical full-body shield, but this defense was too weak to withstand Kanin's firepower.

As she tumbled, she struck the ground, leaving three inconspicuous smears of light, ready to explode when Kanin caught up. But Kanin remained where he was. He had studied the deathmatches at the club and knew Ji Huaisu's methods. He closed his claws, focusing the blue flames and suddenly unleashing a burst of highly compressed force like a demonic sniper bullet.

Ji Huaisu realized she couldn't evade the attack, so she desperately used her light shield to block the blow. The overwhelming force caused her to spit out burning blood. But a flaming claw passed over her shield and pressed down on her head from the side. Kanin had reached her side without her noticing. With a sudden force, he slammed Ji Huaisu into the headquarters gate, pressing her head against the wall surrounding the guard headquarters.

Kanin's speed was incredibly fast, almost instantly surging across most of the headquarters, carving a blazing path through the wall. With a swipe of his claws, he flung Ji Huaisu straight toward the headquarters building, smashing the hall's glass windows with his knight's body. After this, Kanin didn't pursue him personally. Instead, he extended his wings and launched a stream of flaming feathers. Each feather resembled a miniature bomb, exploding violently after piercing the smoke and dust, giving the Scourge Knight a relentless pursuit.

Kanin carefully maintained the tempo of his attacks, giving the Scourge Knight no chance to strike back. Despite the unpredictable trajectory of the battle outside the city, his movements remained precise and ruthless, like a machine wielding a butcher's knife against a human. He calculated the time in his mind: 10 seconds, 15 seconds, 20 seconds. He lowered his claws and smiled at the ruins.

“So tenacious.”

A golden light pierced through the flames, and Ji Huaisu rushed out from the smoke and dust. She roared and swung her sword, slashing at Kanin with the blade of the reverse shadow!

By this time, Ji Huaisu had lost all trace of her usual self. Azure flames clung to her body, transforming her into a flaming humanoid form. Yet, her unyielding fighting spirit sustained her, transforming into golden light to counter the flames. Her sword slashed straight for Kanin's face, the massive blade condensed from her inverse shadows powerful enough to pierce elemental defenses. Fueled by that frenzied fighting spirit, even a mortal could battle a demon!

But her blade was blocked by a flaming longsword. Kanin used his heartfire sword to block the shadow blade, single-handedly blocking Ji Huaisu's life-threatening blow. The power gap between the two was too great. One was a fusion of the spirits of a high-level demon, while the other was a mere knight of Sephiroth 2. Even the most frenzied shadow could not reach the flaming blade.

Kanin swung his sword, easily knocking Ji Huaisu away. He transformed his weapon into a spear and hurled it forward. The flaming spear shattered the light shield, piercing the knight's sword-wielding hand and pinning her to the outer wall of the headquarters building.

The final struggle ended just like that, easily obliterated by the demon's raging fire. Kanin donned the flaming hat again, and the scorching power gathered between his claws, forming a scorching fireball capable of obliterating buildings.

"Goodbye, Disaster Knight." Kanin nodded in greeting.

He pushed the fireball towards the knight like a child blowing transparent soap bubbles.
