Chapter 69: Vander
Chu Hengkong understood two things at the first moment.
First, this unknown creature with a strange style of painting is most likely the original owner of the tentacles.
Secondly, this damn little bastard probably didn't do it on purpose.
The large eyeball began to tremble after staring at him for two seconds. Its expression was truly cowardly, and it was just short of slapping "Help me, sir" and "Why?" on its face... and eyes. Chasing such an embarrassing thing across thousands of miles was probably impossible. This might be another summoning accident...
How common are summoning accidents in this damn world?
Chu Hengkong suddenly felt a headache. He squatted down on the spot, staring at the trembling eyes, and gave them his fiercest look: "What time is it now? Which Dust Island?"
"Seven months after I lost my tentacle! Senluo Secret Realm!" Eyeball confessed on the spot like a spy who couldn't stand the torture. "I've been running around in the wild for these seven months. I really don't know the exact dates!"
It's been a little over seven months since I crossed over, so the time on both sides should be consistent. Huilong City is in the Senluo Secret Realm, so I didn't run too far this time, and there's still hope of returning home...
Chu Hengkong breathed a sigh of relief after hearing this, and then adopted the tone of interrogating the suspect: "Race, name, origin."
The large eyeball nodded repeatedly, waving its short tentacles and speaking politely: "Hello, hello, I'm sorry I haven't introduced myself since this is our first meeting. My name is Finder, the Eye Demon, a new Eye Traveler who just left the library."
What the hell is this...
Chu Hengkong felt a headache. He clearly remembered that Alex had intended to summon the "Omniscient and Omnipotent God," but this foolish Eye Demon... clearly didn't live up to that title! Its aura was weak, and its attitude was reserved. He had seen quite a few of these creatures in the past three months, mostly residents of Xiaochen Island who were seeing the world for the first time in Huilong City, like the Momo Clan, the Pupu Clan, and the Fufu Clan...
The big, sparkling eyes looked up at him, acting as innocent as possible. Chu Hengkong felt more and more absurd and decided to talk about this guy's temper.
"Chu Hengkong, the killer." Chu Hengkong squeezed the eyeball's short tentacles with his tentacles. "The situation at the scene is complicated. I need you to explain the surrounding situation and cooperate with the investigation."
"Okay, okay, I'd be happy to." Big Eyeball was very cooperative. "Um... this is near the west coast of the continent. For the sake of summoning safety, I deliberately climbed a high mountain by the sea - this is wrong. Why am I the one being questioned! What are you doing?! I should be the one asking the questions. This is my side, right?"
“Tsk.”
"Hey, did you just tsk? Do you look down on me? Are you looking down on my wise Lord Vander?!"
The big eyeball gradually came to its senses and angrily jumped up and down with its only remaining long tentacle: "I'm obviously right! You're called Chu Hengkong! Why is my tentacle on you?!"
Chu Hengkong found that the Silver-Eyed Book was right next to him. He rolled up the book with his tentacles and explained the whole story in the most concise and effective way.
"Summon." He pointed to the big book.
"Accident." Then he pointed to the tentacles.
Finally, pointing to himself: "Being involved."
The despairing look in Eyeball Vander's eyes showed that it had fully understood.
"At the moment of summoning, the tide of fate was disrupted, resulting in a dislocated fusion... How unfortunate is it that such an incredible thing has happened to you..." Finder covered his head with several tentacles, and his voice became more and more terrified as he thought about something. "Original Spirit, please return the travel manual to me! You are too dangerous. I want to completely cut off all contact with you!"
Finder was genuinely shocked, looking at the man like a monster. Summoning an accident is a two-pronged approach; the fact that you've encountered one signifies your fate is incredibly chaotic, a rare and unlucky wretch... and as everyone knows, the more unlucky you are, the more likely you are to encounter unorthodox paths. Therefore, the standard outcome of summoning an accident is being devoured by the demons of the current, or being completely devoured by other unorthodox paths.
Now, this guy named Chu Hengkong has actually emerged from the summoning accident unscathed! Not only did he not encounter the Outer Path, he even stole its tentacles! Could it be that his fate is even darker than that of a lesser Outer Path? Even worse than the peerless unlucky bastard is... the peerless evil god? Connecting with such a thing is courting death!
"Brother, please give me back the manual... Can we just go our separate ways and go home amicably?"
Finder retreated again and again, now not even daring to touch his tentacles, and only begged the murderer to get as far away as possible. But the murderer still had that disturbing demeanor, standing aside with a blank expression, one hand on the hilt of the knife at his waist.
Oh my god! Vander shuddered. This action, this look, and the murderous aura that naturally emanated from him! Could this man be a ruthless killer? He had introduced himself as a killer... Could it be that he was planning...
Chu Hengkong drew his sword silently!
"Help!" Vander screamed, tumbling and turning to run away. But as soon as he turned around, he saw a murderous aura rushing towards him. The thick fog was torn apart by the strong wind, and a monster with a lion's head and a wolf's body jumped out of the fog, biting straight into his helpless eyeball with its bloody mouth!
A thin red line appeared on the lion's head. Its predatory momentum remained fierce, but half of its head separated as the red line stretched. The dislocated skull and torso shifted horizontally in mid-air, and the blood spread out evenly like a piece of bright red paper.
The dead monster fell to the ground an inch in front of Fander, half of its head resting beside its tentacles, its eyes still moving. Fander trembled all over, and it turned stiffly, just in time to see Chu Hengkong sheathing his knife.
"I thought you would notice." Chu Hengkong said.
Fander rushed over, his tentacles tightly grasping Chu Hengkong's trouser legs, tears in his eyes: "Thank you for saving my life!"
Chu Hengkong was at a loss for words. He'd been in the underworld for so long, and he'd seen all sorts of people, but this was the first time he'd seen someone with such a strong desire for performance and such intense mood swings. For a moment, he could only think of two possibilities: either this person was a seasoned veteran playing the victim and playing the weak one to tease the newcomers...
Or maybe he's just a harmless loser with no intelligence...
"Master, what secret technique did you just use? Did you imitate the wind power of the Supreme Path? Master, your medium of magic is so novel!"
Fander clung to his trouser leg, chattering incessantly, but Chu Hengkong didn't bother to pay attention. He first used his tentacles to whip the air, sending a strong gust of wind to disperse the surrounding fog. With the crack of the whip, his vision within a twenty-meter radius cleared. He saw jagged rocks and leafless, dead trees, and the ground was covered with dead grass, with a distinct slope.
This place should be halfway up a hillside, a desolate wilderness devoid of human habitation, likely home to animals. Chu Hengkong squatted down to examine the carcass of the lion-headed beast while saying, "If you really want to thank me, send me back."
"Send it back?" Finder asked in a daze. "Sir, are you kidding me? What summoning ritual can be reversed? We Eye Demons are decent citizens, not heretics... Ah! Ah! What are you doing?"
Chu Hengkong used his tentacles to scoop up the fool and slammed him to the ground several times, venting his anger at being summoned so abruptly. Fander bounced back and forth like a ball, barking with each bounce, appearing to be full of energy.
It looked like there was no hope for this loser, but beating him up wouldn't help either. The most urgent task was to gather intelligence, to find out where I was so I could get back to the city...
"Ah... Bao... Pao..." Vander was still screaming.
Chu Hengkong paused as he dissected the corpse. Amidst the sticky mess of organs, he felt something exceptionally hard. It wasn't the feel of animal entrails. He slowly raised his head. Electricity flickered within the smooth cross-section of the lion-headed monster.
A silver cannon barrel emerged from the remaining half of the skull.
"Cannon!" Vander screamed at the top of his lungs.
Chu Hengkong swung his fist, smashing the cannon barrel into a pile of scrap metal. A crackling sound came from the lion-headed monster's corpse, and he kicked it away. Electricity flashed on the headless corpse's surface, and it exploded into a magnificent firework in the air!
The blast of air caused by the self-destructing lion head was so immense that even Chu Hengkong couldn't help but frown. Fander was instantly thrown back, its tentacles clinging tightly to Chu Hengkong's legs, its miserable cries being drawn out by the wind.
The explosion dispersed the dense fog within a hundred meters, its echo reverberating throughout the empty valley. Chu Hengkong listened carefully to the sound waves, picking up a cacophony of sounds, the scraping of claws against the rocks. It wasn't just one or ten, but hundreds, thousands, the cacophony so dense and complex it was astonishing, like a swarm of bees fluttering in a nest.
He saw a white light, illuminating at the same time as the noise, completely piercing the thick fog. The light shone through the trees, behind rocks, at the foot of cliffs, and on the top of cliffs. The light completely filled his vision. From the fog emerged thousands of magical beasts, each opening its mouth in unison, emitting metallic cannon barrels. The white light grew stronger as the muzzles charged.
All the gun barrels were aimed at Chu Hengkong and Fan De, and tens of thousands of beam cannons were about to be fired!
"Bang! Bang!!" Vander screamed at the top of his lungs.
Chu Hengkong turned around on the spot and sprinted at the fastest speed in his life.
"run!"
